Beach city, 2001
"Greg, I think they're twins!" Rose squealed.
"Really, how do you know?" Greg asked while moving a box from the van.
"I just, I can feel it. Why? Do you not believe me?" Rose pouted,
"No-no I do, of course, I believe you, Rose," Greg quickly asserted.
Greg continued grabbing boxes out of the van, while Rose sat on the sand, admiring her husband.
The couple and the crystal gems were moving to the beach house under the statue. This is where the couple and crystal gems would start their new life. The beach house had been finished, Which meant Rose, and Greg plus the crystal gems were moving in today.
Greg placed the final box on the sand, wiping some sweat off his forehead, "Ready honey?" He turned to Rose and smiled.
"I'm ready Greg," Rose nodded and stood up reaching a hand for Greg. Greg and Rose walked up the beach house steps hand in hand, stopping in front of the house.
"I can't wait they're gonna love it here!" Greg exclaimed.
Rose glanced at her pregnant stomach, before looking down at Greg, giving him a warm smile.
"I'm sure Steven and (Y/n), will love it."
Beach city, 2013
Nothing to do, nothing to do.
Walking down the streets of Beach city, in my Jean shorts, and red hoodie with its signature yellow star in the middle, with some sneakers to cover my feet.
I walked past houses and stores. Hands stuffed in my pockets, I kept my eyes down and walked. Some residents greeted me, and I muttered a greeting. I was in my own world right now, the gems were on a mission and Steven was doing his own thing.
Maybe I should have asked Steven to hang out
Steven, my older brother has the top half of my mother's gem, while I have the bottom. Steven and I both have are gems on our belly buttons, Steven's half is bigger than mine though. Steven and I are total opposites. Steven is all cute, kind, happy, and optimistic. I on the other hand am the total opposite.
Even tho we're different, I still look up to him.
literally too... cause he's taller, life is simply unfair.
Steven takes care of me all the time, he treats me well. Even tho he acts so childish, he acts like a responsible older brother at times, I'm glad to have him as a brother.
I sighed and decided to just go home. I passed the 'big doughnut' and started walking on the beach towards home. Seeing the beach house in the distance, I started jogging towards it. Climbing up the stairs and opening the front door, the house was still empty it looked like I had the house to myself. Climbing up the stairs I climbed the ladder of our bunk bed and plopped down lazily staring at the ceiling.
"What to do, what to do?" I muttered.
Maybe I should finish my homewor-
"Nah never mind," I groaned.
"Dammit, I'm so bored. Please someone save me from my boredom!" I yelled in frustration.
Suddenly the front door burst open, I got up and glanced down.
Right on cue
"Steven!" I cheered while climbing down the bunk bed, I ran down the stairs and greeted him.
"(Y/n)!" he said smiling.
Making it down the stairs, Steven quickly embraced me in a hug. I returned it and smiled at him.
"What did you do today?" he asked.
"Nothing much just took a walk," I shrugged, I glanced behind Steven and noticed there was a mini-fridge behind him, I raised an eyebrow in confusion before asking, "uh... Steven, what's with the mini-fridge?"
Steven glanced back at the fridge, and chuckled, "Sadie let me keep it. Can you believe it (Y/n)? there cancelling cookie cat!" Steven yelled in frustration.
I chuckled and let go of the hug. Steven's brows furrowed, a sudden frown on his face.
He loved those, he would go on and on singing the theme song over and over again. Personally, I think they were ok... but Steven loved them so I feel bad seeing Steven like this.
"Really! I didn't know that's awful, hey before they sell out how about we go look for some?" I suggested.
Steven sighed, "I already looked everywhere, no store has them anymore," he said.
"Damm there goes that plan," I said.
"At least I got this awesome mini-fridge, help me set It up," Steven said smiling down at the fridge, he picked it up and made his way to the counter. I followed behind and helped him connect it to the outlet.
Before I plugged it in, I got shocked. "Fuck," I groaned in pain.
Steven turned to me, his smile being replaced with a stern glare. "(Y/n) what did we say about swearing," he scolded.
"No swearing aloud until I'm older, I know, I know," I waved in dismissal. Steven nodded and turned back to the mini-fridge, a smile slowly coming back into place. Plugging the mini-fridge in successfully, I stand next to Steven admiring our... hard work.
"So..." I said, "we have a mini-fridge... now what?" I asked.
"Yeah!" Steven said while smiling with literal stars in his eyes.
"So what now?" I asked.
"What do you mean?" Steven turned to me in confusion.
"Well, it's here, what now?" I asked.
"Well, now we have a mini-fridge!" He finished.
I looked at him in annoyance and rolled my eyes, "Cmon Steven this is boring," I whined.
"What you don't like my mini-fridge?" He asked, smile slowly turning into a frown.
"I do! But I wanna do something else, we already set up the mini-fridge so let's do something else," I suggested.
"What do you wanna do?" Steven asked.
I place a hand on my chin and began thinking, "So, since cookie cat is going out of business, how about we go out looking for a new favourite cold treat?" I said.
Steven beamed at my suggestion, "that's a great idea (Y/n)!" He said.
"Duh, I'm the brains your the br-" Steven cut me off by quickly grabbing my hand and dashing out the front door.
"Let's get searching!" He yelled excitedly.
"Slow down your gonna make my trip!" I scolded.
Dashing through Beach city, we searched for a store selling ice cream, there wasn't a lot considering beach city was small, but soon we found one.
" 'Nice cream' huh, very original," I said reading the store sign.
Steven chuckled and glanced up too, " I think it's a great name" he added.
"Of course, you do" I chuckled. Steven grinned took my hand and led us in. The ice cream shop looked surprisingly cute?. The walls had neon ice cream signs on the walls, there was also a big pink and white theme going on. Steven awed the place, looking around smiling.
"This place is so cute!" He exclaimed, I nodded took my hand back and stuffed it in my pockets.
"Eh it's alright" I shrugged.
Steven began marching towards the counter, I followed behind, looking around still. Steven and I made it to the front, a young lady with chocolate brown eyes, and bangs greeted us.
"Hello," she said smiling, "what can I get for you two today?" I glanced at the menu, they had ice cream scoops and ice cream sandwiches. I decided to go with a (favourite flavour)
Scoop.
"I'll try the mix ice cream sandwich!" Steven said.
I pointed towards the (favourite flavour) ice cream. "I'll have a scoop of that," I said. Steven turned to me with a stern expression on his face.
"(Y/n) manners," Steven scolded.
Really steven, you can scold me at home why here.
"Alright, alright, please and thank you, ma'am," I said rubbing my neck sheepishly.
"No problem you two, let me get those for you!" She nodded and started getting our orders. I turned to Steven and nodded in another direction, he got the message and we got out of line.
"I hope it's good, I cant live without cookie cat, I need a replacement. But cookie cat can never be replaced," Steven muttered.
Wow, he is taking this very seriously.
I pulled out my phone and checked my notifications.

Pain.
Steven glanced at me and saw I was frowning.
"Hey (Y/n) everything alright?" He asked worriedly.
I turned to him and grind, "yeah I'm good."
Well, it's not like I was expecting anyone to text anyways. Ok maybe the gems, or dad, but it's no surprise considering me and Steven don't have many friends.
"Order number 555!" someone called.
"Coming!" Steven excitedly made his way to the counter, the same worker smiled and handed Steven his ice cream sandwich. I approached her, and she handed me my ice cream, Steven and I thanked her and made our way out. Out the door, I immediately turn to Steven.
"Hurry up and try it!" I said.
"Ok," he said. Steven slowly unwrapped the ice cream sandwich, slowly he inches the ice cream sandwich closer to his mouth. Ice cream sandwich reaching his lips, he parts his teeth and bit down.
Moment of truth!
He chewed
...
And chewed
...
And...chewed
"Damm steven, Is it good or not?" I asked in irritation.
Steven swallowed and glanced at me. "It's," he started, "normal."
Normal? ok... is that good or bad.
"Ok and? what the hell does that even mean?!" I said.
"It tastes like a normal ice cream sandwich." Steven shrugged.
"So, is it as good as cookie cat?" I asked.
Steven sighed, and frowned. "No, it's not, it doesn't give me the fuzzy feeling in my stomach, ya know?."
"I definitely know what you're talking about," I said sarcastically, "looks like this mission was a bust," I looked down.
"Hey it wasn't bad, I appreciate you trying to help, either way, I got to spend time with my favourite sibling," Steven ruffled my hair.
I softly slapped his hand away, "I'm your only sibling," I said.
Steven smiled and said, "still my favourite."
I smiled and shrugged.
"Alright let's go home (Y/n), maybe the crystal gems are home." We both began walking home. After finishing our ice creams, we threw out the rappers in a nearby garbage can. Walking up the beach house stairs, we made our way inside.
"Steven, (Y/n) over here!" Pearl waved us over.
"Pearl, Garnet, Amethyst!" Steven greeted.
The crystal gems were by the kitchen, Amethyst was sitting on the island, Garnet was leaning on the island, and Pearl stood next to the fridge.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"Well, we heard that cookie cats were going out of business, so we decided to bu-"
"O. My. God, cookie cats!" Steven cut Pearl off. Steven had opened the fridge, and low and behold, inside were stacks of cookie cats.
So that's why they were sold out everywhere, I chuckled to myself.
"Ya man, we went out and stole all of them for yo-"
Pearl cut amethyst, "we didn't steal them! I went back and paid for them" she scolded.
"It was my idea," Garnet shrugged.
"Thanks, you guys!" Steven thanked them.
"No problem man," amethysts said.
"Alright, alright, just hurry up and eat one," I said grabbing two cookie cats and handing one over to Steven.
"Thanks," he said.
I started opening the rapper, and was about to take a bite-
"Waaaaait!" Steven shouted, startling everyone. "You can't eat it yet (Y/n), we haven't sung the theme song!" Steven said.
I chuckled and gave into his antics, "alright, alright," I waved in dismissal.
"Oohhhhh" Steven started to sing.
"He's a frozen treat with an all-new taste"
"Cause he came to this planet from outer space"
"A refugee of an interstellar war"
"But now he's at your local grocery store"
"Cookie Cat!"
"He's a pet for your tummy"
"Cookie Cat!"
"He's super duper yummy"
"Cookie Cat!"
"He left his family behind no"
"Cookie Caaaaaaaaaaaaaat!"
"Bravo, bravo!" we cheered, clapping for Steven who did a little bow.
"Now let's eat!" he cheered.
Steven and I took a bite, I closed my eyes relishing the taste, it tasted the same as always.
Maybe a little sweeter than usual I don't kno-
"Steven, you're gem it's glowing!" Amethyst suddenly shouted. I quickly opened my eyes and gasped at the sight. Everyone had wide eyes, staring at Steven. Steven continued eating with his eyes closed, his gem glowed so brightly engulfing the room in pink. Slowly a pink shield began forming a rose pattern on the front, everyone gasped at the sight of the shield.
"It's Rose's shield!" Pearl squealed.
"Wow, duuude you finally pulled your weapon out!" Amethyst congratulated.
Garnet smiled, "good job Steven."
Steven slowly opened his eyes, taking in the sight of his shield, Steven's eyes formed stars. "O my stars!" He squealed excitedly. Slowly the light began dimming, the shield losing form. "No, no, no how do I get it to stay?!" Steven began to panic. The light and shield faded away, and Steven began to frown, looking down in shame.
"Don't worry little dude, at least you got it to come out" amethyst reassured.
"Yes, the important thing is that you were able to bring out Rose's shield, good job Steven," Pearl said smiling while patting Steven's head in reassurance.
Garnet walked over to Steven and lowered herself to a smaller level. Steven looked up at Garnet, Garnet smiled and grabbed Steven gently by his shoulders. "Don't worry Steven, you'll get it next time," Garnet said, in her signature monotone voice. Steven nodded and formed a small smile. I stood there deep in thought staring at the whole exchange.
Of course, he pulled out mom's shield, I knew he would do it first. He's Steven for fucks sake he's always better than me in every way, I just wished I could have done it first, I wished they would have been proud of me... I grit my teeth in frustration, hands forming fists.
"(Y/n)" Steven called me out of my thoughts.
I quickly formed a fake smile and said, "Yeah, good job Steven I'm proud of you,"
Steven smiled, "thanks (Y/n)!"
