Work Text:

Koko never cared about valentines day. He didn’t bother confessing to anyone on this day or ever. Even though he had enough guts to pick fights he drew the line at confessing to his crush. Koko didn’t want to be one of those “stereotypical” guys on valentines day, those who wait until this day to confess.

Koko always was convinced he was too hardcore too be romantic anyway. If he really wanted to, he could confess any day. The only thing stopping him was the fear of regret and being unable to control the outcome. Usually, Inupi and him would hang out on Valentine’s day and spray paint an abandoned building. This year Inupi told him that he couldn’t hang out on Valentine's day. Koko thought maybe he had work or something, but then it hit him that maybe Inupi had a date. How dare he have a date and not tell him? Koko felt betrayed that he didn’t even mention a significant other or crush.

Instead of being mature and asking Inupi if he had a date, he decided that he would try to get a date himself. Koko knew he was attractive and could possibly get a date, but he didn’t want anyone else. He wasn’t going to settle for someone else when he already met the person he wanted to be with. Koko always told Inupi that he would stick with him, and meant that even when he was jealous.

Leading up to Valentine's day Koko had an even angrier aura. He always had a resting bitch face but now it was filled with actual anger. Who thought it would be okay to take his Inupi on a date? The only person allowed to do that was Koko. His friend’s used to tell him if he didn’t act soon, someone else would but he didn’t think it would be this soon.

Koko was annoyed and decided he would go interrogate Inupi on who this person he’s dating was and how come he didn’t know. It’s like Inupi knew that he wanted to chat because he kept talking to other people, practically ignoring Koko. This only drove him even angrier until he grabbed Inupi by the collar of his shirt and dragged him to a secluded area.

“Inupi, if we’re best friends, how come you didn’t tell me you’re dating someone? Why else would you be busy on Valentine's day?”

Inupi had laughed softly until he realized Koko was being serious. “I’m not dating anyone though Koko.”

Koko rolled his eyes, “Don’t lie to me Inupi, you know I don’t like liars. Liars are my biggest pet peeve, even if it’s you I won’t forgive lying.”

“But Koko, I'm really not dating anyone.” Inupi’s face turned into a frown before he continued speaking. “I’m visiting Akane’s grave and leaving some flowers. She used to love Valentine’s day candy.I told you I was busy because I thought maybe you’d have a date and didn’t want you to cancel so you could come with me.”

Koko was a bit taken back that Inupi thought he would have a date. Wasn’t it obvious that he was in love with the other?

“I’m coming with you, I'm not letting you go there alone. I know she misses you alot and you deserve support. Plus I'd like to bring flowers too, it’s been too long.”

“Thank you Koko, you're the best.”

This is how both of them ended up at the graveyard on Valentines day. Inupi was dressed in a nice burgundy suit with heels and Koko had a dark green suit on. Both of them had brought a bouquet of flowers for Akane.

Koko was going to step back to let Inupi say what he wanted in privacy but before he could go anywhere, Inupi had reached out and interlinked their fingers. As much as Inupi thought he could handle this alone, he’s glad that Koko had decided to come. No matter how much time goes on, he still can’t forget the incident. Sometimes he wonders if he should have been the one saved.

“I hope you’re proud of me Akane, I'm doing my best as your little brother. Luckily I have Koko here who helps me when times get rough. I wish you were still here and able to watch us grow up, we miss you so much.”

When Inupi began to cry, the emotions overwhelmed Koko and he too began to cry. It wasn’t easy for the boys to be back at the graveyard. No matter how much time goes by, not all wounds are able to heal. One thing that did help was having someone to “share” the pain with.

Koko decided that they would get some ice cream, but neither of them wanted to be out in public. Both had wanted to be somewhere quiet, somewhere comforting like each other’s arms. Inupi had some ice cream in his freezer so they headed to his house. Neither of them talked much during the walk but still held onto each other’s hand.

Fast forward to them sharing ice cream out of the container. Koko would take a spoonful into his mouth then scoop another spoon and shove the spoon in Inupi’s mouth. Not needing to say the words they already knew, it was hard, healing isn’t linear. After finishing a carton by themselves they decided to watch whatever was on tv.

Koko wanted to be selfish and enjoy every single second of this moment. Being able to cuddle with Inupi was something straight out of his dreams. He often thought at night how nice it would be to be able to fall asleep with Inupi and wake up with him as well.

Inupi fell asleep on the couch but woke up in his bed with Koko’s arms wrapped around him. When Inupi woke up at first he was very confused about where he was. After rubbing his eyes awake he realized that he was in his room. He tried not to move too much and took some time to stare at Koko's face. At least while sleeping he had a peaceful expression. Inupi liked when Koko was relaxed and happy even though these moments were once in a blue moon.

Few moments later Koko woke up and quickly removed his arms from Inupi’s waist. He was embarrassed that he let his desires push him to hold Inupi. Both of the boys faces had a slight blush growing on their cheeks.

“Good morning Koko, I was wondering when you would wake up.” I was enjoying looking at your pretty face. Oh how Inupi wanted to play with his hair.

“Dumbass, you should've woken me up if you had something you needed to do today.”

Inupi laughed quietly and Koko wanted to hear that noise forever.

“No, I'm free today, I just wasn’t sure how long you’d sleep is all.I’ll go make us some coffee, if you want you can join me in the kitchen or lay here and I'll bring it to you.”

Inupi dragged himself out of bed into the kitchen. He didn’t want to leave the warm space in his bed but he didn’t want to get too used to it either. It’s like wanting to try something just to get a quick taste. While he stood there waiting for the coffee to finish, a pair of warm arms wrapped around his waist and a head placed onto his shoulder.

“Inupi I'm so sleepy and cold and you’re so warm.”

Inupi felt the warm breath on his neck, tickling his skin and firing up his heart. He’s pretty sure anyone could hear his heart pounding.

“Koko, you should stay over more often. I mean if you want to, there’s no pressure.”

“Yeah I think I'd like that but I don’t want to be just your friend Inupi,we both know that it’s been a long time since this was just friendship .”

“Oh so what do you want to be? Enemies?” Inupi had the opportunity to make a joke and he ran with it.

Koko rolled his eyes and decided to tease him back. “You’re my fiance and we’re getting married tomorrow.”

“Oooh, we’re getting married so quickly Koko? Next thing you know we will have children too.”

“Well you do have a cat, that can be our child and complete our little family. Enough jokes for now, I'm officially your boyfriend. I’m glad we didn’t have this conversation yesterday. It would be corny of us to have valentines day as an anniversary.”

Inupi nodded and smiled as he finished making their coffee. When they sat down on the couch drinking their coffee and still waking up, he knew that this was exactly where they were meant to be. Not all days were going to be this peaceful and happy, but Inupi was going to cherish every day that was.
