the gift of a curse

Summary:

There are consequences that comes with being a sorcerer. Overflowing magic but with no outlet readily available for him all the time.

But maybe spending a day with Luca at work can help him or, at least, distract him from the pain in his body.

Shu really hopes that's the case.

Work Text:

Shu has a very good life. He has a great family, amazing friends and a stunning husband. Living another day with Luca is always better than the last. However, life as a sorcerer doesn’t come without consequences.

There are days where Shu is filled to the brim with magic, bubbly and threatening to spill over. Those are the days that he hates. His skin feels like it’s on fire, his magic burns like lava in his veins. Usually on days like this, Shu goes out to town with Vox but the demon is spending the day on a date with Ike and Mysta. Nina had also offered to help him but Shu feels guilty — with how much the deity has done as their pseudo mother.

So that left him one option. Luca, his husband, offered to bring him along to work. Now, Shu isn’t opposed to spending a day with his husband. But it’s different when your husband is a mafia boss in charge of his own gang.

Nevertheless, Shu follows him to work anyway.

Before they even came to Luca’s club — his place of operations — the blonde had dressed Shu in the finest clothes that best fits him. Shu’s tuxedo fits him perfectly, accenting his waist and arms, showing off his figure but leaving a bit for the imagination to run wild. That being said, Shu doesn’t care for anyone else except for Luca but if his husband enjoys it, why not?

The sorcerer immediately feels a tinge of regret as he sits through one of Luca’s meetings with a client. Shu has a glass of wine in his hand ( he’s aware that it’s 3 pm and no, he won’t get drunk ), swirling its content as he tunes into his husband’s discussion. From the sound of his voice, Luca wasn’t very eager with the direction of this meeting at all.

“As I was saying, perhaps we could—”

“But it would be better if it was done this way! Surely you trust us, no?”

Behind his glass, Shu frowns. Luca is seated next to him, hunched over with his elbows on his knees and his fingers intertwined together. He might seem relaxed and care-free but Shu knows his husband well enough to know that he’s a bit agitated and maybe a little tired with the client. His eyes moved to the client in front of Luca and instantly wanted to throw up.

The man has been staring at Shu; since when, he doesn’t know but what he does know is that his intent is anything but nice. The client licks his lips as his eyes stay on Shu, he is leaning back in his chair, acting like some big shot.

A stupid man, really.

Shu’s certain that Luca probably knows that the client is staring at his husband instead of paying attention to the discussion at hand. Shu ignored the client, evidently, and focuses on taking small sips from his wine. The conversation continues for another hour and within that time, Shu had finished wine and is left observing his manicure.

He contemplates if he should see his nail technician soon.

The sorcerer tunes back into the conversation when Luca leans back into his chair, arms crossed over his chest as he loudly proclaims, “Well, I think we can stop our conversation here for today.”

Thank god, Shu is ready to head out for a late lunch.

“I think I deserve a bit of compensation after such a long conversation, don’t I?”

Well, Shu was ready for that lunch.

“I’m not sure what you mean,” Luca raises an eyebrow at the man, clearly wanting him gone from his office. But the man was stubborn and is throwing a tantrum like a child. For the nth time today, he turns to look at Shu.

“I think compensation is needed... Perhaps with the beauty right there?”

The temperature in the room drops severely. Shu grimaced at the man but he’s much more worried about his husband. He spares a glance at Luca and he could see how he straightened up his back. From his position, Shu could see how cold and empty his stare is as he levels it with the client. Luca will always be known as a human version of a golden retriever to many others but to a select few, Luca is anything but kind and warm.

He’s a mafia boss for a reason, many of the things he’s done can never be said publicly.

“Do you have any idea who you’re talking about?,” Shu shivers at the cold tone in his husband’s voice, he rarely hears that voice, only ever knowing the warm and comforting voice of his sunshine of a husband.

Evidently, the client in front of him is too daft to realise the real danger that he’s in, “I would assume that he’s nothing more than another arm candy of yours,” the client has the gall to sneer at them, “You have plenty in this club of yours.”

Ah.

Shu wants to kill him.

Yes, he really shouldn’t but shame and embarrassment traveled up his spine after being insulted by this vermin . Luca is a well-respected boss, if Shu were to present himself as any lesser or any weaker then — frankly, Shu doesn’t deserve to be called his husband. So he stands and takes multiple strides towards the client. His magic crackles on his palm, his fire makes itself present on his back. An invisible force pins the client onto the floor, his previously-seated chair is pushed away.

Shu raises his palm, his eyes glowing a faint purple as the presses one foot onto the client’s neck.

“I’ve had enough of your constant yapping,” He presses down harder as the client struggles and screams. His bodyguards couldn’t even do anything as two shots ring throughout the room. Luca’s gun was pointed towards the men before they fell in a pool of blood.

Anger courses through his veins, the sorcerer stares at the client beneath him blankly, “You come onto our territory, making demands and giving insults. But you also had the audacity to insult me, referring to me like trash, in front of my husband ,” The client is spluttering, begging for air, “ You must have a death wish.

“He’s had one since he stepped in the room with that smug smile of his,” Luca comments as he stands to walk back to his desk, an air of indifference around him even as his husband is clearly threatening a man’s life in front of him.

“Then,” Shu’s flames flickered brightly for a second, “Let’s fix that, shall we?”

Luca watches on as Shu’s magic crackled in the air, hidden from the naked eye but easily felt. Within an instant, the client beneath Shu stop struggling, going still. His sorcerer huffs, turning around to walk towards Luca’s desk. The mafia boss has his arms wide open, pulling his husband into a hug as he nuzzles into his neck — the smell of amber and soft floral notes greeting him. Shu didn’t say anything, silently running his hand through Luca’s hair, allowing him to rest for a bit.

“Luca, the bodies…”

“Call the grunts, they can clean it..”

Frowning at his husband’s quiet suggestion, Shu pressed a button on Luca’s desk, one that would call in a few grunts into the room. When they did arrive, Shu told them to dispose of the bodies and to clean the mess later.

While Shu would love to stay in this position, his magic was still bubbling in his blood. A whine escapes him as a wave of overflowing magic hits him. Immediately, Luca straightens up, looking Shu over; up and down to make sure that he’s unharmed.

“You okay?”

Shu grimaces, clutching onto Luca’s shoulders, “Excess magic is starting to hurt..”

“Do you have a way to get rid of it?”

“Unless you have a group of people for me to curse, I don’t have any options, sweetheart.”

Luca thinks it over, eyes scrambling around his office to find a quick solution for Shu. His sight falls on the bloodstain on the floor and an idea pops up in his mind. He pushes Shu back gently, going around his desk to grab a single file. Shu raised an eyebrow in question, “What’s that?”

The mafia boss takes one of his hands, placing a peck on the back of the palm, “A solution, hopefully,” He offers the file to him.

His husband is clearly skeptical, eyeing the file suspiciously before taking it from him. At first glance of the contents, Shu notes down various men from a specific gang, one that has been on Luca’s nerves for quite some time now. He looks at Luca, expecting an explanation. The blonde gives him a scary smile.

“What do you think about cursing multiple people at once?”

“At… once? Luca, are you asking me to…?”

“Only if you want to, of course!” He reassures instantly, eyes unbearable fond, “I’ve been trying to get rid of them for months now but nothing’s been working so I thought, why not.. with a bit of bad luck.”

Despite the situation, Shu couldn’t stop himself from teasing his husband with a sly smile, “Are you calling me bad luck, husband dearest?” He didn’t even hold back his laughter as Luca panics.

“Wha—No! I think you’re really, super pog! I love you a lot, like a lot a lot and I will literally fight Vox if you asked—”

“Woah, okay! I’m kidding, love. Don’t go fighting a demon just to please me now.”

His golden retriever of a husband pouts but Shu redirects their conversation back on track, “So. You want them gone?” The men in the files appeared to be normal but Shu’s heard Luca rant about them on more than one occasion due to the trouble that they’re causing.

“Yeah, if you want and are able to.”

“Well, I’m certainly able to,” Shu studies the profile for a few more minutes before closing the file and handing it back to Luca, “Might as well get rid of the excess magic in me. Step back, okay? Don’t come close until the circle is gone.”

Luca heeds his words, staying close to his desk as he lets Shu handle the rest. Shu moves the furniture with his magic to give him enough space to work with. He stands in the middle of the room, taking deep breaths to concentrate on his magic. His flames flickered more prominently now, the air in the room swirled around him gently as a purple circle appeared underneath his feet.

It was decorated in intricate runes and writings, shining a bright purple light. Luca isn’t surprised, he’s seen Shu use his magic many times but every time it happens, it always seemed to awe him — the complete opposite of the magic’s purpose though.

This scene goes on for awhile but Luca stays where he is, not budging until Shu was completely done. Soon enough, the circle starts to flicker before breaking in little fragments and dissipating into the air. The sorcerer would have fallen face first into the ground if Luca hadn’t rushed over to catch him.

“Shu!”

Shu instantly relaxes, falling limp in his husband’s arms. Luca bridal carries him out of his office, grabbing his keys beforehand and heads down to his car. He places Shu in the passenger seat and scrambles to get in the driver's seat. Once he’s sure that Shu is safe and strapped in, Luca starts the drive back home.

The sorcerer gets a hold of his bearings, blinking blearily at his surroundings, “Luca…?”

“Right here, sweetheart. I’m driving us home so that you can rest. I don’t think discharging that much magic at the same time was a great idea,” There was a humorous tone in Luca’s voice despite his comment.

“But it worked though so, ha…!” Shu groans in protest, snuggling up into the seat, fatigue finally catching up to him.

“Sure sleepy pants, get some sleep, I’ll order some food when we get home.”

Sleep starts to pull Shu under, his eyes closing shut, “Luca… Love you..”

“I love you too, sweetheart.”

Guess they’ll have to reschedule that late lunch.
