Full Moon Calling (Part 1/2)

Summary:

Stiles calls one of his sons to ask him something.

Notes:

Happy new year 2022 if I can stil say that. I've decided to start this eigth year with this shorter chapter/part 1 because I don't know when I'll finish it, so I thought that people would prefer to read this rather than nothing.

As usual:

- I'd love to know your opinion.

- Let me know if you see any mistake.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“So, are you coming or what?” It’s the first thing Kyle hears when he answers his phone still in bed.

“Ummm,” Kyle says without opening his eyes, regretting not having checked who the caller was.

“Did I wake you up? I’m sorry,” Stiles’s voice sounds full of sarcasm.

“You’re not gonna ask me how I’m doing first?”

“You’re in bed at 12 pm, I think I know how you’re doing. Now answer me,” Stiles insists.

“Dad…” Kyle sighs, “I was up late last night, that’s why I—”

“Seriously? Doing what exactly?—Okay, wait, if it involves Levi and you know… then, I don’t really wanna know…”

Kyle snorts, “it involves my guitar and my writing, nothing else… Levi is at work right now, he had a photoshoot.”

“Okay, good, then he can’t listen if you finally answer me.”

“And dad, is he home?” Because if he’s listening, he’s still more unsure about what answer he's going to give.

“No, he's out. He went to Noah’s baseball game with Zach and Kane.” Stiles doesn’t need to tell him that he waited until he left because Kyle should have already imagined that.

“Okay, well, I was gonna text you… I mean, later.”

“Yeah, I don’t want more texts from you about this. And if you’re not coming, you’re telling your father and your brother yourself.”

Kyle sighs, “I’m a million miles away…”

“Sure… you’re not even in a different time zone…” Kyle can see his dad shaking his head just as if he was in front of him.

“Hell… it’s just not that simple.”

“Really? There’s this magical thing that flies? With two wings? Ever heard of it?”

“Oh my god,” Kyle sighs.

“How old are you? Seriously? I shouldn’t have to call you.”

“Then don’t,” Kyle says without thinking and once it’s out there, it’s certainly too late.

“Don’t talk to me like that," Stiles says firmly.

“I’m sorry. It just—”

“You’re the wolf here, not me. Don’t you miss your pack? Your father? Your brothers? Moon night was always important to you, so why am I the one calling you?” It doesn’t make much sense.

“You mean Daniel is going?” Kyle frowns. That is actually unexpected news.

“Yep, the busiest neurosurgeon-to-be in New York, who never leaves that freaking hospital, is taking a weekend off to see his pack—But I’m gonna be adventurous here and say that it’s mostly to see you and your brother.”

Having in mind how hectic Daniel’s life is most of the time he didn’t need his father to tell him that this is a big deal.

Shit. “You mean you told him I was going when I texted you and told you—,” Kyle shakes his head.

“Yeah, well, you see... he’s my son, I can tell him whatever I want.”

Kyle wants to scream and say something but his dad doesn’t really care if he’s upset or not, so it’s obviously useless to waste energy complaining in any way.

Kyle runs a hand through his messy hair as he sits on the bed. “And what if I don’t go? What then?”

Stiles snorts. “If you don’t come, he’ll be upset with you, not with me,” Stiles shrugs.

“Thank you very much, dad.” Kyle shakes his head with disbelief.

“Look, I didn’t want to call you but since your two brothers will be here, it wouldn’t kill you to make an effort this time. Not to mention the fact that your father misses running with his kids very much and since he won’t tell either of you, it’s my duty to do so. And honestly, you shouldn’t need me to tell you because you know what he’s like… and let’s not mention your alpha who, of course, also wants you there but has given up because he thinks it’s totally pointless to tell you.”

“Derek knows where I live and he also knows I’m busy. He understands it.”

“Sure. He knows you left the show and that you're unemployed. And he also knows you can afford to book a flight.”

“Dad, I’m not unemployed.”

“Everybody who follows you on Instagram ot Twitter knows you’re unemployed,” Stiles says matter-of-factly.

“Yeah, and they also know that I’m writing a record. I’m not lying on the beach all day.”

“I’m not saying you have nothing to do but you don’t have to clock in every day, which means you can do whatever the hell you want and if you want to visit your family for a couple of days, you absolutely can.”

“It’s not that I don’t want to,” Kyle sighs, running a hand through his hair. That kind of sounded less lame in his head.
