It’s not the sound of an alarm that wakes Edelgard up far too early on her day off, it’s the light peeking through the crack in the curtains her girlfriend made to look outside. It’s the slight creak of the bed and the loss of warmth to her right. It’s the telltale signs of attempted muffled shuffling as her girlfriend changes close. It’s the slight dip on the bed as Bernie sits back down to put on her shoes. Edelgard has her back to her, hiding how awake she is and hiding her (probably) enamored smile. Bernie tries so hard. She listens for the sound of Bernadetta’s second shoe hitting the rug before springing her trap.
Edelgard let’s out a little laugh when her girlfriend shrieks at the feeling of Edelgards arms snaking around her waist. Edelgard gives her waist a warm squeeze and Bernadetta let’s out a shaky sigh, “E-Edie! You scared me!”
“Where are you going?” Edie’s voice is oddly gruff when she wakes up, something Bernie has mentioned before that she adores. It’s no different this morning apparently as her face turns a lovely red shade when she finally twists enough to look down at Edelgard.
“W-well! I was going to go do some gardening before you woke up-“
“Bernadetta, it’s 5 in the morning. The sun has barely started shining.” The blush deepens and Edelgard gets mildly distracted following it down her face to her neck and further down to her chest-
“I know! B-but I wanted to spend the day with you but I promised the flowers to check in on them and I know some were looking a little wilty and I wanted to make sure they survived! Plus-'' Edie unwraps her arms from around Bernadettas waist only to use her hands to prop herself up to press kiss to Bernadettas mouth.
She lets out a little squeak and Edelgard uses it to her advantage, sitting up and deepening the kiss. They stay like that for a few minutes before Edie pulls away enough to mumble, “Get back in bed.” Bernadetta let’s out a huff and kisses Edelgard hard. For all the shy skittishness she has normally, Bernadetta can be very demanding when it comes to affection and intimacy. Bernadetta is demanding with her kisses, all tongue and teeth unrelenting until a moan forces itself out of Edelgards throat. It’s only then that she pulls away, and grins triumphantly down at Edelgard. Edie scowls and wants to pull her back down for another kiss because that absolutely wasn’t fair but Bernadetta is up again, shucking out of her shoes and slipping back into her night clothes.
Edelgard doesn’t even try to hide her interest as her suddenly bashful again girlfriend changes but when Bernadetta slides into bed the only thing Edie does is latch onto her back, a leg over Bernadetta's hip and an arm draped over her chest pulling her against Edie. Bernie let’s out a happy little sigh and snuggles backwards into Edie, “I m-missed you.” Edie hums, an extraordinarily happy and sleepy sound, “I missed you too.” And she kisses the spot behind Bernie’s ear and Bernie mumbles out, “You’re clingy in the mornings, it took a lot of wiggling to even be able to get out of bed.”
“You should have taken it as the warning it was.” Bernadettas hand trails down and pinches Edelgards thigh and Edie let’s out a little yelp and Bernie giggles.
“You’re meaner than you look, Ms. Varley.” Edie doesn’t have to see her to know her face wrinkled but the next thing she knows is Bernie rolling and all but squishing Edelgard to her chest, “Go back to sleep, Edie.” Edie yawns her agreement, and mumbles, “I will go with you to see your plants in a few hours.” Bernie hides her smile in Edelgards hair and starts humming. Edie smiles and her eyes slip closed, contentedly letting Bernadettas voice lull her back to sleep.
