They had known this day would come since they were still teenagers. Wei Wuxian remembers the first time they met, when Lan Wangji refused to let them inside the Cloud Recesses. He also remembers how much he’d enjoy bothering and pestering Wangji until he snapped and broke his usual stoicism.
He thinks back to when he thought Wangji hated him when really, he was just a normal teenager with normal teenage hormones and Wuxian came in and confused him to no end.
“This is not the way I intended for things to go” Wangji says. He’s also the only person Wangji speaks full sentences to and that’s something he never takes for granted.
“It’s not your fault” Wuxian says. They’re in the Jingshi, Wangji’s home that has now become theirs.
Wangji tilts Wuxian’s chin back to place a soft kiss at the corner of his mouth. They had worked out their feelings long before this arrangement even happened but back then, Wuxian didn’t dare to think this would be possible, that Wangji would do openly return his feelings.
“All that matters is you” Wuxian smiles and it’s the shy, private smile that only Wangji has the pleasure of seeing.
“Wei Ying matters the most to me” Wangji says firmly
He leans in and kisses Wangji properly, wrapping his arms around his neck. This was his safe place and has been for a very long time. Here, in the Jingshi, in Wangji’s arms, nothing else matters to him. He doesn’t have to be scared that anything he does will be scrutinised under Madam’s Yu’s watchful (judgmental) eye.
“Baobei…” Wangji whispers when they break apart and he smirks at the way Wuxian blushes from his cheeks down to his neck
“Lan Zhan!” Wuxian whines, hiding his face in the crook of his husbands neck, “you can’t do that! It’s not fair”
“Mn”
He kisses Wuxian’s pout away.

It’s been 2 months since they’ve been married and 2 months since Wuxian has been able to see his siblings. He doesn’t care much for anything else other than being able to see them. He gets to see Jin Ling since he’s often with the Lan juniors out on night hunts and he’s taken a liking to Lan Jingyi and Lan Sizhui.
“You seem nervous” Wangji says, fixing Wuxian’s robes as they prepare to have dinner with the Jiang’s who arrived the night before.
“I’m okay” Wuxian takes a deep breath, “beside, I have you Lan-er gege”
“…. Shameless”
While showing any sort of PDA is forbidden, Wangji would never deny his Wei Ying of anything so when Wuxian insists on holding his hand, he intertwines their fingers without saying anything and the bright smile he receives is always worth it.
Yanli blushes when she sees their hands as they make their way inside. Lan Qiren doesn’t say anything which comes as a shock to Jiang Cheng but even Lan Xichen and the juniors know that he’s taken a liking to Wuxian whether he admits it or not.
They take their places on the left side of Lan Qiren and they bow to each other before taking their seats.
It’s not awkward for Wangji since talking while eating has always been against the rules, he knows Wuxian is restless. He glances up at notices the slight glare that Madam Yu throws towards Wuxian any chance she gets. It’s confusing as it is annoying but he won’t say anything, for the sake of his husband that is.
When they’ve done eating and Lan Qiren, Lan Xichen and Jiang Fengmian start their own conversation, Yanli is immediately at their sides with a very annoyed looking Jiang Cheng which isn’t new since that’s his face. Wangji ignores him.
“I missed you so much A-Xian” Yanli says, “but you look very well”
“Of course” Wuxian beams, “Lan Zhan takes good care of me”
“When will you come and visit?” Jiang Cheng asks and they know he won’t admit to missing his brother and this is the furthest it goes for them
“Visit?”
They look at where Madam Yu is sitting and she scoffs
“Why would he need to visit?” She asks, “he’s not apart of our clan anymore and he’s not my child”
Wei Wuxian doesn’t say anything. He just holds Wangji’s arm when he moves to stand
The commotion has gotten Lan Qiren’s attentions who looks unimpressed with Madam Yu.
“He should be grateful” She says dryly, “if it weren’t for our sect, he’d have nothing and no one else would want him”
“Enough!”
Lan Xichen widens his eyes at the way Wangji yells. It’s not nearly as loud as he wants it to be but it gets everyone’s attention
“Lan Zhan..” Wuxian whispers, still holding onto his arm
“No” Wangji says and he’s seething, “You come into our home and disrespect my husband and I’ve allowed you to speak this way for far too long”
“Wangji..” His uncle says, also standing but Wangji just sends him a glare before he continues
“He is apart of the Lan Sect now so there’s no need for you anymore” Wangji says, “you’re not welcome here and you’re not going to see him anymore”
“Lan Wangji” Yanli widens her eyes in shock, “you can’t-”
“There’ll be no need for an extra stay” Lan Qiren says and Wuxian widens his eyes, “it seems like you have no respect for our sect or our rules”
“Wei Ying” Wangji says and Wuxian stands
He bows to Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen before he’s pulled out the dining hall. He knows better than to even try and make a joke because he knows how much Wangji hates when anyone treats him like that. He isn’t upset that Wangji had an outburst, he’s upset because Wangji is always so calm and respectful but leave it to Madam Yu to try and mess that up.
“Will you slow down?” He pleads and Wangji halts, his back still looks tense and he’s clenching his jaw
“Relax Lan Zhan” Wuxian says softly, “I’m okay, you’re okay”
“Wei Ying…”
“Thank you” Wuxian says and he’s still uncharacteristically soft, “Lan Zhan, I love you so much”
Wangji softens and pulls Wuxian into a hug, wrapping his arms around his smaller frame tightly.
“I’m sorry baobei”
“Between you and I, there’s no need for sorry” Wuxian giggles, “weren’t you the one to tell me that?”
Wangji huffs, pulling Wuxian impossibly tighter. He knows he would do anything for him, no matter what it was. It’s the same reason that when Wei Wuxian needed his help with the Wen’s that were in the burial mounds, he didn’t even think twice.
“I love you” Wangji says, kissing the side of his head
“You’ll need to apologise to old man Lan though” Wuxian grins, “although he looked quite pleased”

Wangji accepted the letter from his brother. It had been weeks since the incident happened and while Lan Qiren wasn’t upset at Wangji, he still told Wangji to copy the rules which Wuxian had teased him about before he shut him up with kisses.
“It’s from Jiang Yanli and Jiang Cheng” Xichen says, “Jiang Cheng is visiting his sister and they want to come visit”
Lan Wangji doesn’t say anything. He just bows and walks back to the Jingshi where he knows Wei Wuxian is still fast asleep.
“Wei Ying” He places kisses all over Wuxian’s face until he’s breaking out into soft giggles and finally (reluctantly) opening his eyes
“Good morning” Wuxian smiles
Wangji kisses him softly on his lips, lifting Wuxian up and off their bed to settle him into the tub to get him ready for the day. Wuxian knows how spoiled he is and he wouldn’t change that for the world. No one would ever love and take care of him the way Wangji did and everyone is well aware just how much the Yiling Laozu loved his Hanguang Jun.
“So good to me Lan Zhan” Wuxian sighs, tilting his head to the side as Wangji washes his hair
“We received a letter” Wangji says after Wuxian is dressed and Wangji is combing his hair, “from your brother and sister”
Wuxian stills but doesn’t say anything. He isn’t sure what he’s supposed to say because as much as he loves them, he wishes they’d stand up for him. He knows Madam Yu is their mother and that Yanli raised him and did a lot for him but shouldn’t their he a line? Madam Yu crossed too many lines that night.
“Wei Ying…”
“Yes?”
“Are you okay baobei?”
He nods and Wangji kisses his neck, wrapping his arms around Wuxian’s waist.
“They want to see you” Wangji says, “if Wei Ying wants, I can allow it”
Wuxian loves his husband so much. He doesn’t know what he’s done to deserve this but Wangji makes him feel worthy of such love and devotion. He knows that Wangji loves him too, probably way more than anyone could begin to understand.
“I miss them” Wuxian says, “I would like to see them”
“I’ll send a letter” Wangji kisses his cheek, “come, breakfast will get cold”

Yanli considers herself lucky to see Wuxian like this. He looks extremely happy and at peace. His laugh doesn’t seem forced and his smile reaches his eyes.
“Shijie!” Wuxian wraps her in a warm hug and she laughs, patting his back
“You’re such a baby” Jiang Cheng scoffs
“Says you” Wuxian sticks his tongue out
Wuxian knows his brother missed him. They’ve always been close despite everything and this was their thing. He didn’t mind and he liked that Jiang Cheng was open to having some sort of mutual understanding with Wangji.
“How long will you stay?” Wuxian asks, he’s looking and Jin Zixuan
“A week” Zixuan says, “I have to be back after that”
Wuxian nods. He understands that because Wangji is just as busy and even though Lan Xichen has the chief cultivator title, he does get a lot of help from Wangji.
“Where is Lan Wangji?” Jiang Cheng asks, surprised that he wasn’t attached to Wuxian’s hip like usual
“He will join us for dinner” Wuxian smiles, “I wanted to fetch you by the gates”
“How kind” Jiang Cheng rolls his eyes but he’s smiling and that’s enough for Wuxian
“Come, let’s eat” Wuxian smiles at his sister again, “it’s almost dinner time and old man Lan isn’t here”
“You sound disappointed” Jin Zixuan teases
“Who else will I annoy?” Wuxian giggles and Yanli tries not to smile, especially after Jiang Cheng looks so scandalised. Her mother did not have any right to separate siblings from each other and she wouldn’t let that happen. She was grateful that Lan Wangji hadn’t banned her or Jiang Cheng.
“Lead the way A-Xian” Yanli smiles

“Lan Zhan!”
Wangji opens his arms, ready to catch his husband. Wuxian grins up at him and Wangji kisses his forehand
“Hi baobei” Wangji says softly before he lets go to greet their visitors
“Thank you for letting us visit” Yanli smiles, “I want to apologise for the way my mother behaved”
“Mn” Wangji says
Wuxian recognises the look on Jiang Chang’s face and breaks out into a fit of giggles as he pulls his brother aside.
“Lan Zhan had them bring dishes from Caiyi” Wuxian whispers, “there’s flavour”
Jiang Cheng can’t even stop his own laugh but immediately covers his mouth with his sleeve.
Wangji can’t help but smile as he watches Wuxian. He’s talking animatedly about his teaching and Jiang Cheng looks amused.
“Jin Ling likes the way you teach” Zixuan says, “he’ll never admit that so you didn’t hear it from me”
Wuxian grins at that.
“A-Cheng should join us one night” Wuxian smirks and Jiang Cheng scoffs
“As if” Jiang Cheng says dryly but they both know he will even if they bicker the entire time.

“Thank you Lan Zhan” Wuxian whispers, laying his head on his husbands chest. They’ve retired for the night and Wuxian feels boneless after their everyday actives.
“Anything for Wei Ying” Wangji says, running his fingers through Wuxian’s hair
“I love you” Wuxian says, kissing his jaw
“I love you more”
