Lin had a bad feeling as soon as he woke up. He didn't know what it was specifically but he knew it had to do with what he was going to do today. Today was another day that he had to play Hamilton. He's done a few shows already but as soon as he woke up today, he knew something was going to happen and that would be related to Hamilton.
As he made his way down Broadway, he kept himself alert in case it wasn't something Hamilton and he happens to get himself hit by a car instead. As he walked into the Rogers Theatre, he took note of everyone that saw and wondered if maybe the bad feeling was just a cast member not being in, which could cause major disruptions if they played a major part. However, everyone was accounted for. As the day went on, people began to take notice of how he would look around or double check things so Chris (played Washingdad) walked up to Lin when they were taking a break "hey, are you ok?" Lin looked up at Chris and shrugged "..i just have a really bad feeling and i have no idea what it is" Chris looked around him and then back at Lin, a confused look on his face "stage fright?" Lin looked up, a 'are you kidding me' look on his face which made Chris laugh and Lin quickly joined in.
It was Hamilton night and everything was going well...until the break for the second act. Lin had changed out into his green suit and was hanging out with the others in the wing when they heard it. In the crowd, there were people shouting at each over but they all heard they yells of "You don't belong here! It's disgusting!" Curious and very annoyed, Lin peaked out the side of the curtain and he immediately saw who the yelling was aimed at, there were these two boys, middle of the theatre, holding hands and they looked very upset and scared with what was said. Lin felt himself get mad but another noise caught his attention, looking behind him, he saw Jonathan Groff standing there behind him and he was furious. This was all the encouragement Lin needed. When he turned around fully, he had noticed that most of the main cast had come up behind him and they all had mixed looks of curious and annoyed. He looked at everyone and said "one minute" before walking away behind stage, they yelling of the crowd following him. When he came back out, carrying something under his arm, Lin didn't look at any of them and he just walked out onto the middle of the stage, the crowd quickly quieting down. Lin stared out at everyone before unfolding what was under his arm, it was a rainbow flag. Lin spread it out in front of him, yelling "We, here at Hamilton and Broadway, support this community no matter what!" Lin had heard people shuffling as they came onto the stage behind him and when he looked around, he saw the entire Hamilton cast coming behind him, all supportive and accepting looks on their faces. Looking back at the crowd, he continued "Love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love! it will not be killed or swept aside! we sing it in music and we hold it in pride! we support it and you!" People started to stand up with loud cheers and whistles. Lin turned around to his cast and saw that some had tears in their eyes. Jonathan walked up to him and gave him a massive hug. Lin heard a small "thank you" in his ear and he squeezed Jonathan back. Thats when the opposition began to yell.
"THEY SHOULD LEAVE! THE WORLD SHOULDN'T HAVE THIS DISGUSTING MESS!" Lin turned around so fast he was surprised he didn't fall over. He immediately caught who said it and he couldn't look away. The theatre was dead silent. "if you don't leave right now, i'm cancelling tonight's show" Lin knew it was the worst road he could of gone down but he couldn't care less at that moment. There were gasps and then there were shouts of "get out" and "leave!" The person who was opposed to the LGBTQ community was a man. He was in his mid-twenties, from what Lin could see and he stood up, looking furious. The man glared at everyone "I belong here as much as everyone else!" Lin glared at him "leave or you will be escorted out" Lin's voice was so cold that the man actually froze. No one said anything. The man didn't move. "I belong here! i paid a lot of money to see this, you can't just kick me out!" It was Chris who spoke this time "look man, you came here and started being horrible to other people who just wanted a good time. You ruined that for yourself. You will get a refund but right now, you need to leave" Chris' voice was commanding but the man disagreed. Instead he sat down, crossing his arms and glaring. The man had decided and so had Lin. Lin moved so he could hand Anthony, the closest person to him, the flag before clapping his hands "Everyone, i am so sorry but tonight's show will be cancelled due to a hostile environment being created" There were a series of disappointed 'aww's' and Lin quickly continued "You will all be getting a refund and a free poster signed by the cast to go to thank you for coming and a sorry for causi-" "FINE!" Everyone turned to the man who had now stood up and he looked furious "That ..THING isn't normal! it's disgusting! goes against the belief of GOD!" The man had began walking away, ignoring the loud "BOO'S!" from the audience. As soon as he was gone, a security guard following, the audience burst into loud cheers.
Lin smiled at the audience before grabbing the flag back and moving to the curtain on the left and he hung it as high as he could, leaving it so everyone could see it. Facing the crowd once more, he shouted in excitement "THE SHOW MUST GO ON!"
No one minded that the second half went by with the actors being more cheerful. Even the Reynold's pamphlet had more of a bounce to it.
The show went on and the audience grew with each show. The rainbow flag stayed and eventually, every stage had a rainbow or LGBTQ related flag hung up.
