Work Text:
"Frank, why do I always seem to feel so sad?" Gerard asked the man sitting on his couch. Frank looked up from his phone, "What do you mean? You don't ever seem sad to me."
Gerard let out a sigh. "I know. I just... don't see the point in complaining about it all the time just to bring others down with me. So I just kind of keep it inside."
"Oh, baby," Frank cooed to his boyfriend, "it's ok to talk about if you're feeling down. I get that you don't want to make other people sad too, but you'll feel better if you let it out." He got up and moved to sit on the floor with Gerard.
Gerard looked down at his hands, then up at the sincerity in his boyfriends eyes. He wanted to open up to Frank, the man who had always been there for him and whom he loved and trusted with all his, but he just couldn't do it. "I.... I don't even have anything to be sad about. I'm sure it's nothing."
He moved to get up, but Frank stopped him with a gentle hand on his arm pulling him back down.
"Gee, talk to me," he placed a gentle kiss against his boyfriends lips," even if nothing feels wrong, talking about will help." He hated himself for not realizing Gerard's internal anguish. "Please? I've never realized you were sad, but now that I know, I want to help. What can I do?"
Gerard felt tears slipping down his cheeks as his eyes burned. What would he do without Frank? "Just keep being you," he said as he turned to snuggle into his boyfriends side, Frank reciprocation by placing an arm around his waist and pulling him closer. "I don't really have a reason to be sad," he told Frank, "I just am sometimes."
"Everybody gets a little sad sometimes, Gee." Frank starting wiping Gerard's tears away with his sleeve.
"But... I 'm sad a lot of times, Frankie. I can see when other people sometimes are having a hard time in life, but it just seems so rare. I just end up randomly sad several times a week and I can't figure out why. Why am I different than all of them? Is there something wrong with me? Am I broken?"
Frank smiled understandingly at Gerard. "No, baby you're not broken. I think... that there are just a lot more people like you than you realize. People who don't want to upset others by being sad, so they hide it."
"Maybe you're right Frankie." Gerard could think about it logically in his head and understand Frank's reasoning, but... "Why do I still want to cry, then?"
"I think you just need time to let your self experience your emotions. You keep them bottled up for so long that they pile up and feel stronger each time they hit you." Gerard looked at him as though he had everything to say, but no words to say it with.
It was like those few words had finally uncorked the bottle, and Gerard began to sob against Franks chest. Finally letting it all out. Frank simply pulled him closer and held him through it. When he was done crying, he pulled away a little and looked loving into his boyfriend's solicitous eyes.
"Thank you, Frankie. I feel much better now."
"I'm glad I could help, Gee. I love you."
"I love you too, Frankie."
