The Princess and the Dove

Summary:

The prince slipped off the table clumsily and attempted to stand still as his legs wobbled. He was feeling his body as if it was something completely new to him, moving his fingers like he didn't know he could control them. It was an incredibly bizarre situation, all from Tomoya just wanting to make a joke with himself. How in the world did it end up like this?

A single "Ah..." escaped from the mouth of the mysterious person, and though Tomoya was a little nervous, he tried listening attentively.

"Ah... AHAHAHAHAHA~!"

Work Text:

"...and they both lived happily ever after, the end." said Tomoya as he closed the storybook he was holding. The group of kids sitting in front of him cheered and began singing their praises on the tale. Tomoya smiled, patting a few of them on the head before getting up from the playmat. Nazuna entered after working on some papers at the back of the room and clapped his hands to grab everyone's attention.

"Alright guys, it's nap time! Put away your shoes and get your pillows, remember to not push each other!" Nazuna announced in a slightly tired tone. He turned to face Tomoya and crossed his arms as he sighed. "I'm sorry you had to come by so suddenly, my original partner couldn't make it, and there was no way I could handle all of them all at once by myself." He said, bowing apologetically. The blond looked at the man before him, who simply replied with a small laugh and reassured him that it was alright.

"It's fine, it's fine. I've been wondering about the kids you work with anyway, and reading to them was pretty fun too." Tomoya replied. The older sighed and said it was fine for Tomoya to go home now, and started walking over to the kids as they settled down for naptime.

He nodded and went to the bookshelves, putting back the book he was holding. He narrated The Frog Prince, a classic but simple story. Though it was a bit silly, it was still sweet and carried a good message with it. "Don't judge a book by its cover" Or however the saying goes.

Once he put the book in its proper place, he got up and grabbed his bag, waving a goodbye to his senior and the drowsy children. He left the classroom and started making his way to the train station.

After the train ride, Tomoya started walking back to his house, thinking of how today was actually pretty good, since he finally got to see Nazuna after a long while, and he didn't have anymore work to do. Since he had the day off tomorrow, Tomoya was finally ready to just have a day to relax. He strolled along the street happily until he realized he jinxed himself and it started raining out of nowhere. Tomoya didn't think to bring an umbrella since the forecast didn't say anything, but after seeing everyone else bring their own umbrellas out, he decided to check it again, and it turned out he misread the report. The boy paused for a moment, sighing with disappointment as raindrops started to fall on his head.

It was a good day turned sour, and all that was on Tomoya's mind at the moment was 1. Try not to get soaked, and 2. Get home immediately. With that, he started speed walking, stepping on puddles and splashing his clothes in the process, and he probably looked a little stupid as the rain poured all over him. He definitely got some weirded out looks from other people, but that wasn't the biggest thing to worry about at the moment, he can just feel embarrassed about that later in the day.

After struggling to not slip in front of everyone, he finally reached his street, but even with his best attempts at avoiding the rain, he still ended up drenched. As goal 1 was officially failed, he just started running back home like his life depended on it. As he was nearing his apartnment, it felt like relief was finally in reach. He could finally go home, shower, and sleep. This cold, wet hell wouldn't have to last any longer-

He tripped and fell.

Honestly, he should've known way better. Of course running in the rain is never a good idea, so now he's just on the floor of the sidewalk, lying down like some fish that was taken out of water. Except he was surrounded by water. And he did not want to be.

As he contemplated the current situation, while getting up, he heard a weak chirping in the distance. It got louder and louder, and started sounding like a cry for help. Obviously he couldn't ignore an animal in possible danger, so he tried finding the bird that could be making this noise. He searched around trees and benches along the street, and after a lot of searching that got him even more soaked, he finally found the source of the crying.

It was a dove, sitting under the bench, wet with what looked like a small injury on its wing. After seeing the wound, Tomoya immediately picked it up to cup it with both hands and held it to his chest as he jogged towards his house. Despite all the troubles he faced along the way, Tomoya would never leave an injured animal alone in the rain. Once he unlocked the door, he let out a heavy sigh of relief as he sank down to the wooden floor, dove still in hand. Of course, he was still soaking wet, but taking care of the bird was now top priority.

He looked up how to help dove injuries online as he brought the dove to his bathroom to warm it up. Tomoya wrapped it in a small blue towel, and headed over to the kitchen to prepare the solution to treat its injury. He placed the bird down on a countertop, making sure the towel was secure and petting it on the head before preparing what he needed.

"I'll take you to the vet later if it seems too serious, ok? Hang in there, little guy." Tomoya said gently. The dove tweeted in response. Tomoya prepared and gently applied the solution to the wound, and though the dove seemed a little hesitant at first, it let Tomoya care for it without causing a fuss.

"Alright, now that I've done what I could, I'll put you in my room to watch you, just to make sure you don't bleed at all." Tomoya whispered, acting like the dove understood anything he was saying. Holding the bird up to his chest again, he made his way over to his bedroom and found an empty shoebox in his closet that he could use as the dove's temporary room of sorts. He put the cover aside and placed the box on an empty part of his desk. The dove was surprisingly calm and sweet throughout this whole process, even with the visible stress of Tomoya due to everything that happened within the last hour.

As Tomoya gave the bird one last pat, he smiled as it cooed in response. He was happy he was able to make a new friend today, even if he was still cold and wet. It reminded him of all the kindergartners he managed to befriend back in Nazuna's workplace, which then made him remember the book he narrated to the class, and how when the princess kissed the frog, he turned into a beautiful prince. Giggling softly, he pet the dove and jokingly gave it a soft kiss on the head, like what happened in the story. He then turned around and started walking towards his bathroom, jokingly looking back every so often, wondering when it would transform. He stopped checking eventually, but as he neared the bathroom door, he heard a loud crash.

Looking back quickly, he saw too many things for his brain to comprehend. There were strange clouds of white and blue smoke everywhere around his now broken desk. The top part of the desk was now leaning down on the right side, with both right legs bent. Strangest of all, above the now crushed shoebox was not a dove, but a person sitting on the slanted end of the table.

Tomoya rubbed his eyes just to make sure he was seeing things correctly. The person on his table was rather tall, with long flowing silvery-blue locks that reached his hips, with a braid and bun on the right side. His eyes were a light amethyst color, and were shining just as brightly as a gemstone. His outfit was like a prince's, and his face was beautiful like one as well. Way too beautiful for comfort. He looked like an ethereal goddess or something, and Tomoya couldn't help but blush at the sight.

The prince slipped off the table clumsily and attempted to stand still as his legs wobbled. He was feeling his body as if it was something completely new to him,
moving his fingers like he didn't know he could control them. It was an incredibly bizarre situation, all from Tomoya just wanting to make a joke with himself. How in the world did it end up like this?

A single "Ah..." escaped from the mouth of the mysterious person, and though Tomoya was a little nervous, he tried listening attentively.

"Ah... AHAHAHAHAHA~! Amazing! What a strange world this is, hmm?" The prince yelled, jumping towards Tomoya with glee. The brown haired boy backed against the door, completely dazed. The image of "ethereal goddess" immediately went out the window, and the only thing he could see now was some eccentric weirdo. The prince continued moving his body joyfully, and Tomoya was confused out of his mind. The taller boy took notice of his expression, and chuckled loudly.

"Well, well, well! Today just got a whole lot more fun! Hello there, my princess! Tis I, your beloved prince, Wataru Hibiki!" Wataru exclaimed, reaching out one of his arms widely, and hesitating with the other, since that's probably where he got injured. Tomoya tried reaching for his arm out of concern, but quickly jumped back when Wataru bent down and brought his face directly in front of Tomoya's. He was scrambling for any words left in his poor, pathetic brain, but all he could mutter was a simple "What the fuck?"

"My, my! What dastardly language you've got there. Such is not fit for a princess," He hesitated a bit while saying that, but quickly smiled and widened his eyes again "-but I absolutely adore that! Quirks are important to being an interesting character, you see. Oh, but what might your name be, your grace?" He asked, grabbing on of Tomoya's hands and placing them in between his own. Tomoya was still stuttering, with blush even more intense than before. Not out of admiration this time, but nervousness.

"I, uh, I'm Tomoya. And I have no idea what's going on. I just wanted to help a bird and all of a sudden the bird turned into a human and is in my room and is a prince and broke my table which was fairly expensive mind you but aside from that I did not expect the bird to turn into a human I mean I kissed it like-" He babbled on before the other boy shushed him by placing a finger on his lips. Wataru laughed in the most obnoxious way ever, and Tomoya was starting to get a little annoyed.

"Uh.. Ok, first of all, can you explain what's going on!?" Tomoya yelled at the prince. The long-haired boy laughed again and said "I'm not too sure myself, darling. I was simply a pathetic little dove on the side of the road, wet and cold with nobody to turn to, until all of a sudden this kind, rain-soaked human decided to pick me up and take care of me, and my heart was so moved!" He started to tear up, but was still smiling, which made Tomoya a little more annoyed. "And on top of it, he kissed my forehead! Perhaps you didn't mean it in any true romantic way, but it saved me from being that pathetic dove forever, which means you're my princess now, Tomoya-kun!" He laughed again, which was just frustrating at this point.

"I can't be a princess, I'm a boy. And just a normal one at that. Honestly, I get why you would be happy to be free and thankful to me, but just what are you so obnoxious for?" Tomoya said, taking his hands out of Wataru's as he started walking back to his desk to observe the damage, and also to clear up some distance between him and Wataru, because if they were any closer, Tomoya would've died. He might be weird and annoying, but he was still too beautiful for Tomoya's sanity.

"Well, Tomoya-kun," Wataru said, making his way towards the younger boy, "Being a "normal boy" doesn't mean you can't be my princess! You've practically locked your fate as soon as you picked me up!" He snickered, now sitting on Tomoya's bed, which was in front of the destroyed desk. Tomoya looked back at him and grunted, which only amused the other.

"And you know, being normal isn't a problem as well. If you're nothing, that means you can be anything, right? Which includes being my princess, of course!" Wataru said, with a slightly gentler tone than usual. Tomoya turned around and looked to the side, trying to avoid eye contact with Wataru as he silently reflected on what he said for a short while. He was right, if you aren't anything special, then you can just act like it, but it's not like Tomoya was good at acting anyway. He's started to accept his path in life and how uneventful it would be. Well, until now at least.

"I think I'm alright as I am. I'm not too interested in becoming someone's princess, especially if he's some stranger that I just met 5 minutes ago."

"Actually, it was 8 minutes and 23 seconds. Oops, I mean 24. 25. 26-"

"Will you stop that!" Tomoya yelled, leaning forward and covering the taller boy's mouth with his palm. Wataru laughed for the millionth time, putting Tomoya's hand away and holding it instead.

"Well, if you're not willing to become my princess right now, I'll be glad to spend an eternity with you!" He exclaimed, pulling Tomoya closer as he said it, startling Tomoya and leaving him with the faintest blush.

"You're just.. you're so- you're so annoying, you know that!?" Tomoya shouted angrily, even redder than before. He backed away from Wataru, and attempted to look away from him so he wouldn't notice his blush. But Wataru did notice. And Tomoya noticed him noticing. And Wataru noticed him noticing him noticing. And Tomoya fell to the floor.

"You're quite easy, aren't you, Tomoya-kun? You've quite literally fallen for me! Ah, a tale as old as time, Amazing~"

At this point, Tomoya was just done. Any attempt to question this guy just leaves him with more questions. This is just gonna have to be another thing to deal with today. Tomoya got up and made his way towards the bathroom, trying to go back to doing what he was supposed to after everything that just happened.

"Just stay there for a while, don't move or mess anything up. You've done enough to my poor desk already."

And so Tomoya was now gonna have to think of how to deal with this situation. Not only was he gonna have to live with Wataru, but he'd probably also have to teach him about how this world works, assuming he's from a faraway magic kingdom where all the modern stuff doesn't exist. It would definitely be a struggle, but he was just gonna have to learn to get used to it.

It was around 6pm by now, and after cleaning up the mess in his room with help from Wataru, they ended up having dinner together. Wataru was visibly struggling with eating like a normal person, but he always played it off like nothing. Tomoya was sort of impressed, actually. The thought of being transported to a whole different world with a different culture and food spooked him a bit. That still didn't change how irritating Wataru could be.

"Uh.. Hibiki-senpai, right?"

"Please do call me by my first name instead, as we'll both be Hibiki by the end of this~"

"So, Hibiki-senpai, what exactly did you do before the whole transformation thing? Were you some kind of magic dove prince, or what?"

Wataru stopped for a moment, possibly pausing to recall his past, looking to the left with his grin leaving his face for a split second, but he quickly returned to a smile and made eye contact with Tomoya again.

"Well, I was once a prince in a lovely kingdom far, far away from here. And looking around, it's possible that I'm from a whole other world! Isn't that wonderful? Your house surely is strange, it's nothing like the wondrous castle I once lived in, you know? Ah, no offense to your house though, it's quite the comfortable abode!"

Tomoya furrowed his eyebrows. Well obviously his normal house wouldn't compare to a whole castle from another world, but it still kinda pissed him off. Wataru smiled a bit, but Tomoya wasn't having it. He just sighed and got up from his chair.

"I'm just gonna wash the dishes, you can make a bed on the couch over there." Tomoya said, eyeing the grey couch in the area next to the kitchen. Wataru nodded and happily made his way towards the couch.

Now that Tomoya was looking at it, that couch was definitely gonna be too small for Wataru. He felt a bit bad for making him sleep there, but he quickly took that thought back when he remembered that the only other option was gonna be Wataru sleeping next to him, which was definitely NOT happening. Couch beats sleeping on the floor, at least.

After washing the dishes, Tomoya checked in to see how Wataru was doing, and his eyes widened as he saw the couch double in size, surrounded by various pillows and a blanket that definitely wasn't his.

"How in the world did you do that?" Said Tomoya, looking at the couch in disbelief.

"Oh, don't you know, Tomoya-kun? A magician never reveals their secrets~" Wataru said, winking at the other boy across the room.

It's been a long day, so Tomoya just doesn't have the energy to talk anymore. He just put up an awkward thumbs up and walked to his room to finally get some well-deserved rest. As he was about to shut off the lights in the living room, he looked at Wataru one more time. Somehow, he was already sleeping. He looked very peaceful as he slept, almost like sleeping beauty, his lips were ever so slightly parted, almost asking for a kiss.

Tomoya shook his head immediately after that thought, because as beautiful as he may be, Wataru was still a huge weirdo. Tomoya rushed to get inside of his room and onto his bed since he was beginning to blush, even nobody could see him anyways. He pulled up his blanket and shut his eyes, attempting to get that long-awaited sleep, but even if he was incredibly tired, he just couldn't do it. That damn Wataru kept clouding his mind with questions, and it was too hard to keep track of anything.

I'm never gonna figure him out, am I?
