Ten years old Shuuji thinks his parents are gross.
As far as he remembers, his parents haven't changed a bit; His dad is still trying to annoy his mom at any given chance while said mom gets flustered every single time; His dad shamelessly did PDA while his mom tried to maintain his image and some dignity.
If anything, it's sickeningly cute.
Especially that one time Shuuji caught them in the middle of night.
He had woken up cranky from the loud noises coming from outside his room and while he tried to go back to sleep, his bladder decided he needed to go. Perfect.
With a sigh, Shuuji pushed himself up and climbed down his bed.
As he got closer to the door, he finally noticed that the sound was coming from the living room and- a rock song?
The redhead groaned, why would his parents play a rock song that loudly in the middle of night? And surely they know he's a light sleeper.
However, before he could open the door to give his dad a piece of his mind (yes, he assumed it was Dazai because no way Chuuya would do such an unreasonable thing, right?) the music changed into something slow and soft.
Shuuji changed his plan and quietly opened his door to peek outside.
He didn't expect to see his mom, curled on the sofa with a blanket around his shoulders while his dad approached him after fiddling with the Bluetooth speaker. It looked like he was the one to change the music.
The brunet then stood in front of Chuuya, outstretching one hand while bowing slightly- and Shuuji heard the soft : "May I?"
He also didn't miss the way Chuuya's previously wistful gaze brightened up as he took the hand and stood up.
They began to move along the rhythm; A romantic slow dance bathed in moonlight.
With practised ease, they moved around the room without bumping into anything which made Shuuji think of how many times they had done this.
Even though they were just in their pajamas, hair messy and barefooted, it looked just as magical as those ballroom dances in the fairytale Chuuya sometimes watches.
Shuuji found himself smiling together with them as Chuuya spun around and was dipped, turning his face slightly away as he saw them share a short kiss.
The atmosphere was so intimate that he felt like he was invading but it was hard to look away.
Before long, he was reminded by the reason he was up in the first place. He nibbled on his bottom lip, unsure of what to do, should he just go and break the bubble his parents are in or-?
"You know we know you're watching, right?" His dad's voice made him jump in surprise.
Shuuji grinned sheepishly. "Sorry." He muttered, opening the door wide enough for them to see him.
"It's okay, be careful going to the bathroom." Chuuya waved him off, still holding onto his husband and swaying gently.
"Okay, Mommy."
"Do you want to join us?" Dazai offered but Shuuji politely declined with a shake of his head.
"I'm sleepy, Daddy." He said matter of factly before going to the bathroom.
When he came out later, Dazai and Chuuya had their forehead pressed together. Dazai's lips were moving, saying something very quietly that only the bigger redhead could hear him. Upon seeing that, Shuuji tiptoed to his room, not wanting to bother them further-- it was a futile attempt, though.
"Good night, Shuuji." Chuuya called, attention turned towards him. "Sorry for the music, it must have woken you up." He added with a guilty smile, arms open in an invitation for a hug.
So it's his mom's rock music.
Shuuji shot a smile of his own, running into his mother's arms. "It's fine, Mommy. Good night." He said. "Don't be sad."
"I'm not sad." The ginger said with a frown. "What made you think so?"
"Geez, it's obvious even to Shuuji, Chuuya." Dazai added, ruffling Shuuji's head. "Good night, kiddo."
"Good night, Daddy."
"Sweet dreams, Shuuji. I love you." The redhead said again, pressing a gentle kiss on his forehead.
"You guys too. I love you both." And slowly Shuuji made his way back to his room, waving at his parents while doing so.
Before he closed his door, he saw his parents had continued their little dance session.
Ten years old Shuuji thinks his parents are gross.
But not in a bad way.
It's the way they're so grossly in love , still so into each other even after so many years passed which makes even a ten years old jealous.
Shuuji could only wish for him to be able to find what they have in the far future.
