Are You Blackmailing Me?

Summary:

Tony Stark needs help taking down Cap during the Avengers' Civil War over the accords. However, this doesn't sit well with Peter, who signals May to call Matt for help.

... this all leads to May finding out about Spiderman and Daredevil...

...which also leads to a major freak-out.

Notes:

I'm making Tony a bit of an antagonist for this AU becuase I wanted to experiment on that, but he's getting redeemed eventually. Also, this proved to be the perfect opportunity for May to find out her nephews' identities as masked heroes and a glimpse into Peter and Matt's "Chaotic Cousins Energy".

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Peter had a good day at school and found a good piece of old tech in the dumpster. But now he was in his home with Tony freaking Stark sitting on his fucking couch, hitting on his aunt who seemed to be a bit uncomfortable as she mindlessly played with her wedding ring. A habit she developed unconsciously when she missed Ben in these types of situations.

“Mr. Stark?”

“Hey, kid.”

Aunt May turns to him. “Hi, Peter. Mr. Stark here says he’s here for an internship that you applied.” Peter could see the doubt in her eyes.

“The September Foundation?” Tony provided.

“Oh, right! Let’s, uh... Let’s talk in my room.”

He let Mr. Stark walk first as he mouthed to May. ‘ Call Matt ’. She nodded.

Peter walked pass Tony as the billionaire closed the door and spit the pastry he had on the trashcan. “As walnut date loaves go, that wasn't bad.” He looked around at Peter’s computers. “Whoa, what do we have here? Retro tech, huh? Thrift store? Salvation Army?”

“The garbage, actually.”

“You’re a dumpster diver.”

“Yeah, anyways. Look, um, I definitely did not apply for your grant.”

“Wait, me first.”

Peter decided to listen what the man had to say. “Ok...”

“Quick question of the rhetorical variety.” He pulls out his phone which projects a video of Peter in his Spiderman outfit. God, he needed a better suit. “That's you, right?”

“Um, no. What do you. What do you mean?”

“Yeah. Look at you go. Wow! Nice catch. 3,000 pounds, 40 miles an hour. That's not easy. You got mad skills.” Tony smiled. “That’s around 12,000 N. Really impressive.”

Shit, he knew too much. Peter decided to cut to the chase. “Why are you here, exactly?”

But Tony ignored him and managed to find his suit. “Oh, what do we have here?”

Peter grabbed the suit and tossed it away.

“So. You're the . . . Spider . . . ling. Crime-fighting Spider . . .you're Spider-Boy?”

“Spider-Man.” Peter corrected, there was no point in trying to hide. Stark knew about him way too much.

“Not in that onesie, you’re not.”

“I’m not using this anymore.” Said Peter, remembering about the new suit Melvin was making for him. “I don't believe this. I was actually having a real good day today, you know, Mr. Stark. Didn't miss my train, this perfectly good DVD player was just sitting there and . . . Algebra test. Nailed it!” He went to his desk and made motion of working on his computers when he was actually setting up a secret recorder.

“Anybody else knows?”

“That’s none of your business.” Peter snapped. “Now it’s my turn to ask the questions. You don’t get to come into my home and mess with my stuff and my personal life. Why are you here? Because Iron Man himself wouldn’t come to a vigilante’s apartment to arrest him. That’s what the police is for.”

Tony frowned. “The Sokovia Accords.”

“No.”

“No?”

“No. I’m not going with you. This is what this is about, isn’t it?”

Tony looked around the room, seemingly ignoring his answer. “So, no one knows. Not even your . . . unusually attractive aunt?”

Peter decided not to answer.

“You know what I think is really cool? This webbing. That tensile strength is off the charts. Who manufactured that?”

“I did. Now put it down.”

For once, Tony listened.

“So, you got a passport?”

“I’m not going with you.” Peter stated.

Tony finally glared. “Look, kid. I’m desperate. I need help. I need help taking Rogers down. He’s becoming a menace.”

“Captain America?”

“He and his merry band had civilians killed trying to save his precious Bucky. And as for the accords, he said the safest hands are our own. Which I call bullshit because we need accountability.”

Peter sighed. “I’m sorry for all those people. But still not going with you. I can’t.” He glared. “You’re asking a minor with no passport to go to a foreign country.”

“I could build you a new suit. State of the art. Already have designs for it.”

“Now you're just trying to bribe me. A minor. Do you know how fucked up that sounds?”

“OK, I guess I’ll be telling your hot aunt.”

Peter narrowed his eyes. “Are you blackmailing me? You know that doesn’t help your case, right?”

“Look, kid--”

The door to the bedroom suddenly opened. “Good afternoon, Mr. Stark.”

Peter felt a wave of relief wash over him. It was Matt. He briefly wondered how did he get in here so fast, but right now he was just grateful. Maybe he was just in the neighborhood.

“May I ask why the door was locked with a minor and an adult inside?” Matt smiled as if he didn’t know what he was implying. Aunt May was standing just behind Matt.

“And you are?” Tony asked.

“Matt Murdock. Attorney at law and Peter’s cousin. Now answer my question.”

Tony glanced back at Peter and then at Matt. “We were just talking.”

“With the door locked?”

“It was about a scholarship--”

“Cut the crap, Stark.” Matt snapped. “We all know why you are here. May and I were listening.”

Tony stayed quiet for a moment before talking. “So, you know about his onesie.”

“He’s not going with you to Germany. Keep the Sokovia Accords out of this home. You don’t need to involve a minor. Not to mention you are also blackmailing a minor into going to another country without a passport or parental consent, which is punishable by the law.”

“So is his vigilantism.”

“So is barging into a home unannounced and lying to the parental figure all with the intent of getting close to a minor. Besides, no one would believe that Peter is Spiderman.” Matt smirked. “He’s too much of a dork.” His head moved to the side. To a person that didn’t know him, they would say this was some weird quirk. To Peter, he knew Matt was listening to Stark’s heartbeat. “All accusations are heavier on your part, Mr. Stark. It will look really bad on you. Oh! As for the accords, you really want to back something that will strip a vigilante, superhero or enhanced person of their human rights? That includes you.”

Tony stared back.

“I guess Captain America wasn’t the only who didn’t read them. The safest hands are our own? He sounds like he has his own agenda.”

“I’ll agree with you on that.” Tony glared. “But the accords can be amended. You’re a lawyer, you know that. And yes, I read them.”

“It sounds to me that you just want accountability to make yourself feel better.”

Tony looked like he had swallowed a lemon. A really, really bad lemon. Thankfully, May decided to step in.

“The door is that way, Mr. Stark.”

Tony sighed. “Fine, I’ll leave. But remember, kid.” He turned to Peter. “This is a criminal on the run we’re talking about.”

“You really want to hold that against my nephew!?” May all but yelled. “He’s barely fifteen!”

“He’s a vigilante.” Tony emphasized. “With more strength than Captain America himself.”

Matt frowned and stepped forward. “What you want is a child soldier, then. It doesn’t matter if he’s a vigilante. You have no right in poking your nose into our family.”

“Also, I have evidence of all this conversation.” Peter added as he pointed at his computer. “Its own net. Un-hackable. You know computers, so do I. Now get out before Matt decides to hit you with his cane.”

Tony seemed to consider his options before sighing and making his way out of the room. “Alright.” He held up his hands. “I know when I’m not wanted or when I’m bested.” He stopped just by the door and turned his head to Matt. “Murdock? From Nelson and Murdock? The lawyers that stopped Fisk?”

“Yeah. What about it?”

“Nothing. Just overheard my team of lawyers talking about you back then.” With that he left, with May following behind. Presumably to show him the door.

Matt folded his cane and turned to Peter. “Are you ok?”

“Yeah. What an asshole. To think I still admire his inventions though.” Peter sighed. “How did he find out? I was careful like you told me!”

“He might have followed a pattern. But also, Stark is a little kid with too many toys. He might have been trailing you for months since you started and... well... you weren’t as careful back then.”

Peter blushed. “Shit...” He looked up. “Do you think he will try something?”

Matt seemed to put some thought into it before shaking his head. “I don’t think so.”

May suddenly entered the room with a nasty look on her face. Peter winced. He was dead.

“So, anything you would like to add... Spiderman !?”

Peter shook his head.

May turned to Matt. “And you knew! What’s next!? That you put on some weird costume and fight crime in Hell’s Kitchen!?”

Matt stayed quiet for a moment, considering his options. With a sigh, he signed off his death wish.

“...I’m Daredevil.”

May glanced between them.

“This is a bad joke, isn’t it?”

Both cousins stayed quiet.

“WHAT THE FUCK!?” She yelled.

“Aunt May! Please calm down! We can ex--”

“I DON’T WANT AN EXPLANATION, PETER BENJAMIN PARKER!!! NEVERMIND, I WANT THE DETAILED EXPLANATION BUT WHAT THE FUCK!!!”

“May--”

“I DON’T WANT TO HEAR IT, MATT! DOES MAGGIE KNOW!?”

Matt stayed quiet for a moment. “...Yes.”

“WHAT THE FUCK!?” May threw her hands in the air. “Were you two even going to tell me!?”

Both nephews stayed quiet. “...Eventually?” They answered in unison.

“WHAT THE FUCK!?”

Needless to say Matt and Peter were in for a long talk.
