No Rest for the Wicked

Summary:

Now that Matt and Peter have settled into a comfortable routine, they navigate this newfound sense of family as cousins. Matt now has a larger support system and Peter gets a bigger family by adding Foggy and Karen into the mix. Maybe other vigilantes too. However, they still have many challenges to face like one pissed off Tony Stark, school, law firm, vigilantism and cousin shenanigans. And possibly dealing with some rouge avengers after the accords’s fiasco.

But mostly cousin shenanigans.

Notes:

The fourth installment and the official story. You don't really need to read the three one-shots before the story, since I will keep mentioning stuff in this one, but I will recommned it if you want more detail on Matt and Peter's first meeting and why Tony Stark is an antagonist in this story. They're short, so they are easy to read too, just three of them. Plus, you will get to see May's reaction upon finding out their identities. Enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: In which Foggy says “Shit, there’s two of them”

Chapter Text

With almost a month of discovering they were cousins (and by proxy, vigilantes), Peter and Matt patrolled regularly. Peter just liked to have someone that mentored him while Matt just wanted to keep an eye on his baby cousin.

Or else May would haunt him.

Within that month, a lot of stuff happened. Tony Stark tried to recruit and blackmail Peter into his little divorce with the Avengers and Matt got in the way of his plans, starting to train Peter in Fogwell’s Gym because the kid could not throw a proper punch, and Melvin creating a new suit for him to get him out of his onesie.

“Once again, it’s not a onesie.”

Daredevil scoffed as they waited for Melvin to fetch the finished product. Spiderman, still in his original costume, was basically jumping up and down from excitement. “Oh man, what do you think Melvin did for my suit?”

Daredevil shrugged. “When I asked him, I asked for something similar in protection to mine, but flexible for your fighting style. As for color scheme or whatever, how am I supposed to know?”

Spiderman winced. “Sorry.”

Melvin came back with abox in his hands. “Well, Spidey. Here it is. I hope you like it, kid.”

Spiderman looked back. “Who says I’m a kid?” He lowered his voice a few octaves.

Daredevil wanted to punch him.

Melvin chuckled. “Relax, I’m no snitch. But anyone can tell a kid’s voice cracking.” He opened the box. “Go ahead.”

Spiderman looked inside the box and a red mask stared at him back. “Oh my gosh...” He said in amazement. He picked the mask and then the suit. It was red and blue with a black spider symbol in the middle. It had some Kevlar on the back, chest and stomach areas, but enough to still be flexible when needed. Interestingly, the hands seemed to be some type of sports gloves with metal in the knuckles and, as Peter had requested, a spot for his web shooters. Finally, the feet had some type of patting, but very resistant. He could die happy.

“Can I try this on!?”

Melvin shrugged and pointed at the bathroom. “Go ahead. If something feels amiss, let me know.”

“Thanks.”

“You can throw away the onesie.” Daredevil smirked.

“For the last time, is not a onesie!”

Spiderman entered the bathroom and closed the door. Melvin turned to Daredevil. “If you keep finding vigilantes for me to dress, I’m going to open a shop.”

Daredevil chuckled. “I have a few in mind.”

“Please don’t say Deadpool.” Melvin groaned.

“Not who I had in mind, but you know him?”

Melvin sighed. “He came here asking to fix his suit. So, I did. Who did you have in mind?”

“I was going to say Jessica Jones.” Daredevil smirked.

“Heaven forbid that.”

Spidey stepped out of the bathroom just in time with his old suit hanging over his arm. “Well, how do I look?”

Melvin smiled. “Badass.”

“Yes!” Spiderman cheered. “Thank you so much, Mr. Melvin. This is amazing.”

Melvin waved a hand. “Don’t thank me. I’m a big fan. I just glad you’re wearing my design. Oh, and the eyes move, like you asked me.”

Spiderman moved the eyes and gasped. “Even better! That’s going to make my life so much easier!”

Daredevil smiled. “You look nice, kid. Sorry, Melvin, but we gotta go and I can’t babysit all night.”

“Hey!” Spiderman exclaimed but was ignored.

Melvin laughed. “Alright. See ya soon.”

OOO

It wasn’t long before they reached Matt’s apartment. Both vigilantes took off their masks and Matt made his way to the kitchen. “Remember to text May where you are or she will have both of our heads.”

Peter sent a quick text to May before Matt handed him a bottle of water. “Thanks.” He opened the bottle, took a sip and looked down at his new suit.

“Like it?”

“Matt, I love it. This looks so badass!”

Matt chuckled. “Good, because Melvin took his sweet time making that. He did mine in a few days the first time.”

“It even has a spider in the middle! It looks sick!”

Matt raised a hand and tilted his head to his left. “Hide, Foggy is coming and you’re still in your suit, he has a key.”

“Oh shit.” Peter shot a web towards the ceiling and stayed there.

The door opened and Foggy Nelson stepped inside. “Matt, you in here? You better not be dead! I brought you the case files for tomorrow’s appointment with Mrs. Smith.” He walked into the living room where Matt was stading in his suit except cowl and holding a bottle of water.

“Hey.”

Foggy narrowed his eyes. “Hey. File. I'll put it over the kitchen counter.” He held it up and placed it where he said. “Weird seeing you like this. Did you just arrive?”

“Yep.” Emphasis on the p.

“No stab wounds.”

Matt smiled. “No.” He took a sip of his bottle.

“Good, good.” Foggy stood there awkwardly. “Anyways, just wanted to check on you and--”

A bottle of water fell to the floor and it wasn’t Matt’s.

Matt himself looked quite pale all of a sudden.

Slowly, Foggy turned his head up and made eye contact with a teenager... sticking to the ceiling like the girl from The Ring.

“AAAAHHHHHHH!!!” Foggy screamed.

“AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!” Peter yelled as he lost his balance and fell into the floor on his signature pose.

“MATT!!!” Foggy yelled. “GET YOUR CROSS AND HOLY WATER AND DO SOMETHING!!!”

Matt simply sighed. “Foggy, it’s ok. This is my cousin, Peter. Which... I never really introduced you. We never had the time.”

Foggy looked between Matt and Peter. “Why was he stuck in the ceiling!? ANSWER ME!!!”

Peter looked down, biting his lip. “Well...”

“Um...” Matt looked away.

But Foggy was a smart man. It didn’t take long for him to put two and two together. He looked at Peter’s new suit and stared. “Your cousin is Spiderman.” He calmly stated.

Matt’s eyes widened and Peter stared. “What... No!” Peter exclaimed. “This is, ugh, cosplay!”

Foggy started laughing. “And to think I thought for a moment there was a demon in Matt’s apartment like the girl from The Ring!” He laughed some more before he started crying. “You scared the fuck out of me! I need a moment.” His voice cracked as he exited the apartment and stayed right outside the door.

Peter turned to Matt with a questioning look. The lawyer seemed to feel it and sighed. “He’s terrified of that movie. Anything would be better than that.”

“That would explain his reaction.”

“Then prepare yourself when he gets back because there could be two outcomes. One, he starts yelling at us because you are a minor doing vigilante work or two, he might be cool because he’s your biggest fan. But I’m still going to get yelled at.”

“So, it’s not fun for you?”

“No.”

Foggy returned inside the apartment a few moments later and glared between the two. “So... your cousin is a vigilante too? Did you get him into this?”

Matt shook his head. “You know Spiderman was around since before we met, right?”

“I don’t give a flip. Why is he a minor?”

“He’s not going to stop, Foggy. I already had that chat with him.”

“So, he’s your sidekick now?”

“I’m training him because otherwise the kid will accidentally hurt someone. And now, he's not my sidekick.”

"And I take offense to the sidekick comment."

Foggy turned to Peter with a questioning look. Peter shrugged. “...I was bit by a radioactive spider on a school trip to Pym Tech and I got superpowers now.” He figured, why not tell him? He already knew about him being Spiderman.

Foggy sighed. “But really? I get this idiot, but you are barely fifteen as far as I know!”

Peter shrugged. “... I just want to help.” he looked away.

Matt decided to step in. “Among other things... when he’s ready to tell.”

Peter gave Matt a grateful smile.

Foggy sighed. “Well, ok, I guess. Big fan, by the way.”

“Thanks.”

“Who else knows?” Foggy asked. “I mean, if it’s ok to know. I’m no snitch.”

Peter glanced at Matt, who gave him a reassuring smile. Peter smiled at Foggy. “Well, obviously Matt and now you. My best friend Ned and my Aunt May.”

“OUR Aunt May.” Matt smiled.

“She’s only a decade older than you and she hates it when you call her aunt. It makes her feel old.”

“She’s not that old.”

“Don’t ever dare phrase it like that in her presence.” Peter warned. “Do I need to remind you when she found out about us being Spiderman and Daredevil?”

Matt winced, not wanting to remember her outrage when Stark had left the apartment after his failed attempt at recruiting Peter into his Civil War. “Don’t remind me. My ears hurt just by thinking about it.”

Peter looked at Foggy. “It was a dark day. We got chewed out.”

Foggy grinned. “You guys have to introduce me then. I like your new suit.”

“Thanks! I love it!” Peter grinned. “Say, you look like a Star Wars guy, do you like Star Wars.”

“May the force be with you, young padawan.” Foggy quoted.

Peter gasped. “Matt, why didn’t you introduce us earlier!? I could introduce him to Ned!”

“I was going to. But then again, we have a lot of work and you have school and live in Queens, plus the extra time training you.”

Foggy grinned. “We gotta introduce you to Karen. She’ll love you and never let you go.”

Matt smiled. “Whether you want to tell her about Spiderman or not, that’s your decision. But I’ll warn you, she’ll figure it out on her own.”

“...Can I trust her?”

Foggy smiled. “She’s a really good friend. I’d trust her with my life.”

Peter shifted his weight. “I’ll think about it.”

Matt felt his watch and turned to Peter. “It’s school night, you should get going.”

“But Matt--” Peter started to whine.

“I want you let me know as soon as you are home. If not, I’m calling May.”

Peter groaned. “Fine.” He turned to Foggy. “It was nice to finally meet you.”

“You too, kid. Now get going and send my regard to this legendary aunt, ok?”

Peter saluted, slipped on his mask and jumped through the open window after making sure no one was looking. A few moments passed before Foggy glared at Matt. Matt felt the glare on him and sighed. “...Do you want the short version or the long version?”

“I have all night.”

“Ok. Want a beer?”
