Chapter 1: The Beginning

After the battle in Siberia things were tense between the avengers, but they were slowly healing and getting better. When Zemo had shown them the footage of Bucky killing Tony’s parents, he has also proven that there were video records of old Hydra and KBG missions and training programs. Over the course of the past few months the team had been searching diligently for the records, hoping they could solve some of the many mysteries Hydra had left behind as well as finishing off the group for good. The most recent footage discovered had supposedly been redacted from the winter soldier file. It was obvious that hydra didn’t want anyone finding out about this.
So now, the team sat in one of the avengers/ stark towers meeting rooms in hopes of watching the footage. Bucky was absent from the meeting, he and Sam were away elsewhere on mission when they had acquired the files and had given the team permission to watch them without him.
Now many of the avengers including Natasha, Tony, Steve, Clint, who was visiting for the weekend, as well as Bruce and Thor (I know they weren’t in Captain America Civil war, but we’re going to ignore that and move up the Ragnarok timeline so that they came back to earth right after Civil War).
They didn’t know at what point in time these files came from but knew they were a part of the winter soldier program, meaning they most likely included Bucky.
The Avengers sat at a conference table as Tony pulled up the video files on the screen.
The film started and they saw a training room, one that Natasha knew all too well. Before anyone could protest, Natasha left the room, the only explanation she gave was “I can’t do this right now”. Clint, knowing her reasons for leaving, told the group to let her go. A moment later, the now smaller group resumed the video and a few words crossed the screen
Mission log #172, Red Room facility, Location: unknown. Mission goal: Evaluate, Asses and aid in the later steps of training the newest generation of widows.
Step 1: the introduction.

The camera changed direction to show the winter soldier at the side of an older woman. They were facing a line of young women.
“Girls meet your newest instructor, name: James Barnes, code name: the winter soldier. I’m sure you’ve heard stories about him from the higher-ups. English only in this class, it is important for you to practice in order to succeed. Roll call, introduce yourselves.”
The girls went in order that they were lined up, “Alina *insert last name that I can’t think of*, 18 years old”, “Sasha *insert last name that I can’t think of*, 18 years old”, this continued until they finally reached the last girl “Natalia Romanova, age 17”.
The video paused and the room erupted into chaos.
Chapter 2: WHAT!

Previously:
The camera changed direction to show the winter soldier at the side of an older woman. They were facing a line of young women.
“Girls meet your newest instructor, name: James Barnes, code name: the winter soldier. I’m sure you’ve heard stories about him from the higher-ups. English only in this class, it is important for you to practice in order to succeed. Roll call, introduce yourselves.”
The girls went in order that they were lined up, “Alina *insert last name that I can’t think of*, 18 years old”, “Sasha *insert last name that I can’t think of*, 18 years old”, this continued until they finally reached the last girl “Natalia Romanova, age 17”.
The video paused and the room erupted into chaos.
Present:
“She knew him?!?!” Tony exclaimed in confusion
“There has to be an explanation for this” Bruce tried to calm everyone down.
“She would have told me” Steve sounded hurt.
“They messed with Barnes’ head, who’s to say they didn't do the same to her.” Thor added, trying to help Bruce.
The chatter continued for what seemed like hours, even though it was mere minutes. Clint was remaining suspiciously silent throughout the exchange and the group turned towards him looking for his input. He was the one closest to her, so he might know more about the situation, they thought.
“Look…” the archer started, “Nat has her reasons, but… I'm sure if we just keep watching, we'll find out.”
The Avengers were not very satisfied with the answer but left the matter alone and continued the footage.
