Winter in January

Summary:

Tony Stark decides to call the band back together, not for some mission but something a little less chaotic. Darcy isn't sure why she's included in this summons to his picturesque like cabin/mansion in the woods but she's not complaining. Not when she meets Bucky Barnes.

Bucky would rather run away screaming then have to be stuck in a house full of people, but Dr. Lewis makes it a bit easier.

Aka
I just wanted a fluffy fic where everyone is together and peaceful.

"Yeah we can make it."

Bucky turned his head to the sound of Sam's phone hanging up and his low sigh.
"What's that for?" He asked waiting for Sam to share his exasperation at the person on the phone.

Sam crossed his arms and leaned against the doorframe he was standing under. "Well, Tony wants the band back together. Some kind of reunion, avengers style."

Bucky arched an eyebrow, mirroring Sam's crossed arms in his seated position. "And you said yes?"

"Yeah, I did. I roped you in too man. If we're playing Brady Bunch you're coming with me."

Bucky didn't know what the hell a Brady was but he figured he'd save himself the embarrassment from asking. "Not a mission then."

"Not a mission, some kind of vacation out in Washington. Tony was selling it as a quiet nature retreat, knowing him it's an all expenses paid resort."

Bucky snorted at that. "Ever so generous."

The cogs in his head were turning, he had just gotten settled into being at Sam's place overnight he wasn't stoked about being some where else so soon.

Sam nodded, "Right, right."

"How long? And when are we supposed to be there?"

Sam brushed his thumb on the outside of his nose. "He's sending a car to take us to the airport in a few hours."

He groaned audibly at that. "Jesus."

"Hey man- you're going, suck it up. Pack a bag." Sam pointed a finger at him like he did his nephews.

Bucky made a face. "I haven't unpacked."

"Good one step ahead of me. I'm ready for a Stark level vacation."

Sam marched off into the direction of his room leaving Bucky reeling in the living room.

He didn't want to see Stark. Hell, he was content never seeing the rest of them again. Expecially not Steve. He just wanted to be left alone, no more Avengers. However Sam wanted him to go, and he would often just suffer through whatever Sam wanted just because he was his only friend.

Bucky grimaced and stole a glance at his packed dufflebag sitting at the edge of the couch. Everyday was a new challenge and he was just exhausted. He could feel it in his bones.

Perhaps he could just avoid everyone and make the most of it. Avoiding people typically worked in his favor rather than trying to make their aquentinece. Less chaos and less, judgement. Flexing his metal hand, he pulled the glove on over it.

Christmas had already been a large hoorah at the Wilson household, he couldn't imagine what New Years was going to be like at a Stark household. He'd heard through the grapevine that Tony had a daughter now, which hopefully toned down his need for over the top celebrations. However his instincts told him otherwise.

He leaned his head back, deciding to zone out for however long it would take for Sam to pack back up and the car to arrive.

When Tony said a few hours he meant one. Sam had just gotten his bag done when there was a knock at the door and a man in a suit waiting for them.

Sam spoke the man briefly while Bucky stood behind him, watching the man with hawk like scrutiny.

Once Sam had gotten confirmation that it was in fact their driver, they loaded up into the black SUV that was going to take them to the airport.

"Yo, this is swanky."  Sam admired as they slid into the back seat.

Bucky shot him a look after a pause, "Swanky?"

"Okay I wasn't sure about it either." He grumbled out as he clicked his seat belt. "I was trying something man."

"Never say that again." Bucky admonished as he gave Sam another look after rolling his eyes.

"Like you're on top of the lingo, I don't wanna hear shit from you."

Sam had a point but he was not about to let him know that.

"I at least know that 'swanky' isn't cool." Bucky clicked his own seatbelt as the car began to move down the road.

"Yeah whatever." Sam waved his hand in his general direction. "Take a nap, don't be so cranky."

"I'm not- I'm not cranky." Bucky scowled deeper.

"You're always cranky." Sam sighed pulling out his phone. "Probably because you need a nap." He finished while looking over his screen at Bucky.

Bucky  squinted and mustered up his best ' eat shit and die' glare before looking out the window whilst Sam laughed at him. At least Sam was excited about it. Most likely to enjoy anything that came out if Tony's pocket.

This was going to be a long car ride and an even longer plane ride. Hell, this trip was going to be long.

He let out a low sigh. His mind racing and body deeply uneasy. Nerves brewing at the idea of a new place, and people he didn't know how to act around. Old relationships and unhappy memories were bound to resurface and he was looking forward to none of it.

He adjusted himself into his seat resigning himself to the fact he was most likely going to be miserable for the duration. He didn't want to be miserable but that was the boat he tended to find himself in the most.

He watched as they passed cars and trees alongside the highway. He never did like moving this fast, it always made him uneasy and a little nauseous. However he just had to get used to it. He closed his eyes and tried to imagine he was anywhere but in the moving vehicle.

He tried to imagine what Washington was like. He'd never been before so he had nowhere to base it off of. It definitely wasn't as warm as Louisiana, which was upsetting. Hopefully it'd at least be pretty.

Bucky did find himself dozing off, which wasn't a bad thing. He didn't want to, simply to spite Sam and his nap comment. However he did eventually succumb to sleep.
