Work Text:

Hyunjin didn’t hate Chan. of course, he didn’t. Chan was a sweetheart, especially to his Seungmin. but oh, what Hyunjin would do to hit him with a bludger right now.

You see, Chan decided today would be a good day for “family bonding” as he called it, thus inviting his best friend, Jisung, to their little Hogsmeade trip. Han Jisung. the same dude that Hyunjin absolutely hated.

Han Jisung was a menace. He was loud, arrogant, and stupidly attractive in the way that made Hyunjin want to punch him just to knock that stupid smile off his face. But, Jisung was Chan’s best friend and Chan was all over Seungmin now that they are official. So that meant Hyunjin had to suck it up and deal with it.

-

There Jisung stood in all his glory, stupid grin and all. He must be enjoying this. He lived to annoy Hyunjin.

“Hello, Hyunjin. Fancy seeing you here. Too bad we won’t be spending the day together, oh wait, we are.” Jisung smirked. Hyunjin would do anything to wipe that look off his face.

“I see you haven’t given up trying to annoy me.”

“You know it, baby.” There goes his smirk again.

“You know what-”

“Do we have to separate you two again? Are you five?” Stupid Chan, interrupted him again before he could even start.

“Seriously, you two. Can you guys please get along just once? We only go to Hogsmeade once a month and Chan and I want to have a good time.” Seungmin butt in, focusing his puppy eyes on Hyunjin.

Seungmin knew Hyunjin couldn’t say no. Especially not to him, Hyunjin was weak when it came to Seungmin. So, he used it to his advantage. And it worked.

“Fine. But only if you make him promise not to call me baby.” Hyunjin muttered, glaring at Jisung.

“Fine. But only cause you asked so nicely.” Jisung fake cooed before speaking again.

“Baby.”

“JISUNG”

-

Unfortunately, Hogsmeade was not the only time Hyunjin was forced to be around Jisung. Because wherever Hyunjin went, Seungmin went, and wherever Seungmin went, Chan went and wherever Chan went, Jisung went. Hyunjin couldn’t escape him.

But Jisung wasn’t the only thing Hyunjin couldn’t escape. Ever since Seungmin and Chan became official, they were all over each other. All the time. It was disgusting really.

Hyunjin had never seen Seungmin act so sweet and soft the way he does around Chan. And Chan, well, that boy was smitten, to say the least. He was always trying to hold Seungmin’s hand or sneak in a kiss. Much to Hyunjin’s dismay.

“You two are disgusting. I can’t stand looking at you.” Jisung gagged, banging his head on the table.

“Jisung’s right. Your stupid PDA makes me lose my appetite.”

Seungmin rolled his eyes and let go of Chan’s hand, shoving a piece of bread in his mouth.

Chan, however, took this as an opportunity to make Jisung and Hyunjin bond.

“See? You two can agree on something. Talk about that.”

“You want us to talk about how disgusting you and Seungmin are?” Jisung questioned.

“Sure. Whatever makes you two stop arguing.”

“Okay fine. Jisung, don’t Seungmin and Chan make you want to barf with all their nasty PDA?”

“Why, yes, Hyunjin, they do. Do you see the way Chan’s ears turn red anytime Seungmin looks in his direction?”

“Or the way Seungmin turns into mush whenever Chan so much as brushes their hands together? How disgusting.”

“I don’t do that!” Seungmin yelled.

“Yes, you do.” Jisung and Hyunjin yell back in unison.

“Ew. Never do that again.” Jisung said, glaring.

“You’re the one who copied me.” Hyunjin accused.

“No, you copied me.”

“Well, I distinctly remember me speaking first-”

“Stop it, you two.”

-

Jisung wasn’t all bad, though. For one, Jisung was good at quidditch. Like really good. And lately, Hyunjin has had the opportunity to practice with the Gryffindor boy more often.

After the Yule Ball, quidditch was canceled for the rest of the year. Something about needing the pitch for the Triwizard Tournament, not that Hyunjin really cared, he didn’t know anyone in the tournament anyway. But, the loss of the pitch didn’t stop Jisung.

Jisung continued playing in a new location, one he shared with no one. Except for Hyunjin.

Well, sort of. Hyunjin found Jisung’s hideout one day when he was trying to escape Seungmin and Chan, thus leading him to Jisung.

Jisung’s hideout was well hidden, off in a corner right next to the forbidden forest. Hyunjin had no clue how he stumbled across the makeshift pitch one day. He was just walking with no destination. But, hey, great minds do think alike.

From then on, Hyunjin found himself escaping to Jisung’s hideout and soon, it became his hideout too. Jisung didn’t seem to mind either, it’s easier to play quidditch with two people rather than one anyways.

Today was one of those days. When Seungmin and Chan run off and remind Hyunjin that Seungmin was no longer just his. He needed an escape. And the hideout was perfect.

“What brings you here today? Were they being all gross?” Jisung yelled as soon as he saw Hyunjin approaching, startling Hyunjin. Though he’s not sure why he is surprised, Jisung is always at the hideout.

“Not really. Today they decided to ditch me for one of their dates. Said I should make some more friends.” Hyunjin sulked, laying down in the middle of the pitch.

Jisung chuckled under his breath before laying down next to Hyujin, sitting up slightly so he could look at the other.

“And why don’t you?”

“Why don’t I what?”

“Make some more friends,” Jisung muttered, before starting again.

“I mean, look at you, you’re literally choosing to hang out with your worst enemy.”

“You’re not my enemy, Jisung. You’re just a menace. Besides, I like your hideout because then I get to play quidditch and forget everything else.”

“I don’t know, I’m starting to think you enjoy spending time with me,” Jisung smirked. This time, Hyunjin didn’t wish to wipe it off his face, but rather he found the smirk suited Jisung.

“In your dreams, Jisung. I just like your quidditch skills.”

“Oh, I know. I’m good aren’t I?” Jisung joked. Hyunjin sat up slightly, lightly shoving Jisung’s shoulder.

“Yeah yeah. Don’t get too egotistical. Arrogance doesn’t suit you well.” Jisung chuckled at that, glancing down at the other boy for a second, almost as if he was examining his face.

“Are you feeling better?” Jisung finally spoke up, still scanning Hyunjin’s face for any signs of distress.

“Surprisingly, I am. How’d you know I was upset?” Hyunjin questioned, raising his brows.

“I could see it on your face. You pout when you’re upset, especially when it’s about Seungmin.”

Hyunjin thought for a second. How did Jisung know all of this? Did he really pout? But Jisung took Hyunjin’s silence a different way.

“Hyunjin, are you in love with Seungmin? Because I know it’s none of my business, but Chan is my best friend and I don’t want him getting hurt because you-”

Hyunjin’s eyes widened in shock before sitting up abruptly, almost banging their heads together.

“No?! Where the hell did you get that idea? I love Seungmin, of course, but he’s my best friend, I could never like him that way.” Jisung frowned, confused.

“Then why are you so upset at him for being with Chan?”

“I’m not mad at him for being with Chan. I’m glad he’s finally able to be happy and open about his relationship. But, sometimes it feels like Chan is all he thinks about. Like, I can’t have a moment with him without talking about Chan or him wanting to hang out with Chan. I just miss my best friend and sometimes it feels like he’s fine without me. Just like he will be fine without me when we leave Hogwarts ”

Hyunjin could feel the way Jisung’s eyes scan his face, searching for a way to comfort him. Hyunjin held his tears in. He couldn’t cry in front of Jisung. Not now.

“Hyunjin, you know Seungmin loves you too, right? Like Chan talks all the time about how Seungmin will go on hour-long rants about how he misses you so much or how you’re such a good friend. He needs you just as much as you need him. But you also need to realize that he isn’t just yours to have and he won’t be forever. It would be good to find someone to help fill his spot while he’s off doing other things.”

“Easy for you to say, but you forget I have no other friends. I’m stuck with you.” Hyunjin pouted, closing his eyes.

“Okay, then be stuck with me.”

“What?” Hyunjin questioned, opening his eyes slightly.

“Let me be that person for you.”

Hyunjin remained quiet, still confused at the other boy’s sudden statement. Jisung disliked silence, so he spoke up again.

“We can be that person for each other. You’re not the only one who is missing his best friend, you know.”

Hyunjin thought for a second. Would being friends with Jisung be so bad?

“Fine, but only because there’s no one else, and I don’t feel like making any new friends.”

“Good! Pinky promise me.” Jisung said, placing his pinky out.

“Why?”

“Because then we are forced to fulfill our promise. Come on.” Jisung whined, wiggling his pinky.

“Fine,” Hyunjin muttered back, jokingly rolling his eyes and connecting their pinkies.

“Yay! Okay, let’s go play some quidditch.”

-

From that day forward, Jisung and Hyunjin were joined at the hip. They walked in the hallways together, met at their hideout together, and even sat next to each other at mealtime.

Of course, their sudden shift did not absolve their arguing. They still bickered, they were Hyunjin and Jisung after all. But at least they could be in the same room together now, they could even sit right next to each other without things getting heated.

Seungmin and Chan seemed to thoroughly enjoy their shift as well. Now the two could plan Hogsmeade dates with all four of them without worrying about Hyunjin and Jisung’s disdain for one another. And they could also sneak off without feeling bad for leaving their friends alone.

Hyunjin was surprisingly really happy with their arrangement too. Jisung was fun to be around when he wasn’t intentionally trying to piss Hyunjin off. He found himself enjoying the way Jisung’s eyes lit up whenever he got a point and the way he rambled on and on about his day and all the boring things he did in class.

He found himself missing Jisung when he wasn’t around and looking forward to seeing him at mealtimes. But most importantly, Hyunjin found himself liking Jisung.

It was something he didn’t expect. Something that he would never expect. It happened fast. But it happened. He liked Jisung.

But all good things come to an end eventually. The year was ending and Chan was leaving. There would be no more Chan for Seungmin to sneak off with or Chan to force Jisung to go on the Hogsmeade dates with him.

Their arrangement would no longer be needed and Jisung and Hyunjin would go back to the way they were. But, Hyunjin couldn’t let that happen. He had to talk to Jisung.

When Hyunjin arrived at their hideout, Jisung was already there. Laying down with his eyes closed.

“There you are, I was looking for you.” Jisung jumped, opening his eyes.

“You found me.”

Hyunjin smiles and lays down next to Jisung, turning his head so they’re face to face.

“You know, it’s been a good year. I’m gonna miss it.” Jisung chimed in, turning his head towards the sky.

“Me too,” Hyunjin mumbled.

“Well at least you no longer have to put up with me now that Seungmin won’t be stolen by Chan anymore,” Jisung joked, but his laugh was bitter.

“We don’t have to stop being friends just because Chan is leaving, you know. I’ve really enjoyed my time with you, Jisung.” Hyunjin said smiling. Jisung smiled back.

“Me too.”

“You know, now that chan is gone, you’re gonna need someone else to hang out with. Seung and I would be willing to do that. I would be more than willing.”

“Really?”

“Of Course, someone has to put up with your antics, might as well be me,” Hyunjin smiled, turning away from the other boy. Here goes nothing.

“But before we leave though and become friend friends, I need to tell you something. You can hate me and ignore me for the rest of our time here, but I need to tell you. I like you, Jisung. And not just as friends. I mean like I full-on Seungmin and Chan kind of like you.”

Jisung takes a second before he begins laughing. Hyunjin pouts, frustrated.

“It’s not funny! I’m serious.”

“Oh, I know you're serious.” Jisung teased, poking the other boy’s side.

“Then why are you laughing? I just confessed my feelings for you and you’re laughing.”

“It’s just ironic.” Hyunjin rolled his eyes, sitting up a bit.

“Why is it so ironic?” Hyunjin mutters, turning towards Jisung.

“Because I told you when Chan and Seungmin went public that we would make a good couple and you denied it! And now, you’re the one confessing your feelings to me!”

Hyunjin groaned, hitting the other on his shoulder.

“Ouch, that hurt.”

“Good.”

“You know I like you too, by the way,” Jisung admitted, leaning over Hyunjin now.

“You do?”

“Um yeah, it was pretty obvious, seriously, I’m surprised you didn’t catch on.”

Hyunjin looked at Jisung in disbelief. When did he ever hint that he liked Hyunjin?

“Seriously? You had no clue? Hyunjin, I literally asked you if I could be your person. How is that not a confession?” Jisung was dumbfounded. Could Hyunjin really be that dense?

“That was a confession?!”

“Yes, you dummy! A subtle one, but still a confession,” Jisung yelled, smacking Hyunjin on the back of the head lightly.

“Ouch,” Hyunjin muttered, glaring up at the other boy.

“You deserved that.”

“Yeah yeah. I’ll just count it as payback for earlier.” Hyunjin muttered, closing his eyes.

Jisung stared at the Slytherin for some time before speaking up again.

“Hyunjin.”

Hyunjin only hummed in response, keeping his eyes closed. Jisung leaned in closer, mumbling again.

“Can I kiss you?” Jisung’s words were no louder than a whisper, but Hyunjin heard them loud and clear.

Hyunjin opened his eyes, giving Jisung a small nod before leaning up, meeting him in the middle.

Jisung’s kiss was sloppy and sweet. And Hyunjin swore he could taste the Pixie Puffs Jisung had for breakfast this morning. But, he didn’t mind.

Hyunjin loved the way Jisung hesitated before he pressed another soft kiss, almost as if he was unsure of what to do.

Hyunjin giggled into the kiss, leaning in too close and banging their foreheads. Jisung laughed as well, finally relaxing.

“I think we need some practice with that,” Jisung mumbled, as he pressed his forehead to Hyunjin’s, giggling.

“I think so too.” Hyunjin whispered, resting his hand on Jisung’s cheek.

Jisung smiled once more before glancing down at Hyunjin’s lips as if he was asking for permission.

Hyunjin chuckled, leaning forward and pressing their lips together once again.

-

Bonus:

Seungmin was happy for Hyunjin. Of course, he was, Hyunjin was his best friend, if he was happy, Seungmin was happy. But he and Jisung were on his last nerve.

The two were always together. Always. Seungmin couldn’t turn the corner without seeing Jisung and Hyunjin holding hands or kissing. It was disgusting. Even right now, Jisung was trying to feed Hyunjin.

Seungmin banged his head against the breakfast table, huffing at the clingy couple before pulling out a piece of paper and writing.

“What are you doing?” Jisung asked, stealing a glance at Seungmin’s paper.

Seungmin glared at the two.

“I’m writing to Chan,” Seungmin muttered, earning a laugh from the couple.

“What? Are you writing loverboy to fly in on his broom and save you? Isn’t he too busy training to be, oh, I don’t know, a fricken Auror?” Hyunjin mocked, laughing as Seungmin threw a piece of bread at him.

“Maybe if you two weren’t so gross, I wouldn’t have to get him to save me.”

“Don’t act like you and Chan weren’t disgustingly in love last year. You’re the reason we are even together in the first place. And don’t get me started on Chan’s nasty gushing after he just got back from one of your little Astronomy Tower dates. It haunts me to this day,” Jisung butt in, faking a shiver and stealing the bread from Hyunjin.

“Oh trust me, we were not as bad as you guys, that’s for sure,” Seungmin muttered, going back to writing.

“What are you even saying in that letter?” Hyunjin questioned, grabbing the paper and reading before Seungmin could take it back.

“‘My dearest Channie,

Hello, my love. I’m glad Auror training has been treating you well. School has been awful without you. I miss you so much every single day and our secret little dates on top of the Astronomy Tower. Are you coming home to spend the holiday with me? I can’t wait to see you again and make up for all the kisses I have missed-’” Hyunjin was interrupted by Seungmin trying to steal the letter back from Hyunjin, missing by a split second.

Jisung gagged at the letter, he found Seungmin’s yearning anything but flattering.

“Please tell me Chan doesn’t write back all mushy like this. I will kill him.”

Seungmin pouted, attempting to grab the letter one more time, only for Jisung to beat him to it.

“Give me that. Does he talk about us anywhere? Oh, wait, I found it. ‘Hyunjin and Jisung are doing well. But, they’re disgusting, Channie. You should see it. They spend all day giggling and holding hands. I honestly want to barf. And don’t get me started on Hyunjin’s staring problem. Half the time I can’t even tell if he’s looking at Jisung with heart eyes or daggers-’”

“I don’t do that! Take that out!” Hyunjin yells in shock. Jisung burst into laughter, handing the letter back to Seungmin, who signs his name with a heart before tucking it in his pocket.

“I don’t know babe. It kind of sounds like you’re in love with me.”

“Ouch!”

“You deserved that.”
