The world echoed with the bristles of clouds and a field of buttercup flowers. Kyoshi ran crushing yellow and golden petals. She giggled, flickering the air between her fingertips. Her hair raced beside her joyous grin.
“Kyoshi, wait for me!” Rangi bellowed as she jumped up the hill. Kyoshi turned and beamed at her. The day was rich with happiness and the warmth of a beautiful future. Blue skies and kingdoms of clouds hung above them. It was the day off for the Avatar and her girlfriend.
“Catch me if you can!” Kyoshi yelled, bouncing off the ground and running through the fields. Splinters of grass and crushed flowers scaped the side of Rangi’s cheek. A small temper burned in Rangi, the familiar sense of competition beating in her heart.
Not to mention, Kyoshi looked absolutely stunning in that ivory-colored dress.
“You’re on!” Rangi growled, racing up the golden hill. The afternoon sunlight shone on them as the two of them soared through flowers. All of sudden, Kyoshi cried out in surprise. Rangi’s thoughts turned to daggers of fears and what if’s as she raced towards her.
The tall grass cleared to reveal Kyoshi completely soaked in a near pond. The water glistened on her skin. As well as the annoyance on her face. Rangi burst out laughing.
“Hey? You dare laugh at the Avatar?” Kyoshi teased, trying to brush the water off her dress. Rangi muffled her laughs with a smile.
“No, I dare to laugh at my beautiful girlfriend who’s also an idiot,” Rangi said, arching an eyebrow. Kyoshi smiled and gazed at Rangi tenderly.
All of sudden, sharp wind and a water whip sent Rangi flying into the cold pond. Kyoshi splashed-water bended a pile of puddles onto Rangi. She growled, glaring at her.
“I guess we are both idiots,” Kyoshi teased, lending a hand to Rangi. She pulled her up into a tight embrace. Rangi’s anger faded as she turned to Kyoshi. “You’re beautiful too, I’ve always thought so.”
“It feels strange.”
“What does?”
“To be happy,” Rangi admitted, kissing Kyoshi’s lips gingerly. The shade drifted over them, leaving them in the soft afternoon light. They broke apart, pressing their foreheads together.
“You give me something to fight for. A future, happiness-”
“What do you think the future will consist of?” Rangi asked, her heart beating fast.
“I don’t know but as long as you are in it. Something really really beautiful. ” Kyoshi admitted, cupping Rangi’s face. It was a few hours of muttering sweet nothings in the pond before they left. The sky was soon falling into an ocean of stars and night. The world bristled with a beautiful hope and vows too strong to break.
