Chapter 1: Regret

Chapter Text

It hurts.

It hurts so much. She can't do anything but pathetically watch through the prison behind her eyes as her own decomposing body wanders the extremely packed field. A field full of monsters that were once students and teachers who had family and friends waiting for them. A field that once held thousands of great memories. Fond memories of playing games, picnics, relaxation and the feeling of running across the grassy plain when it was time to go home.

But no one here would be going home. Never again. This field and school is their home now, the place where they all were supposed to be safe turned out to be where they all would die.

If only Lee Na-yeon had made proper friends when she had the chance to. She always watched other students have fun like playing games, gossiping, joking, caring for each other and so much more. Unfortunately, she never personally experienced any of that since she was eight years old. There was always this disconnect between her and others. A wall separating them. Na-yeon was scared to let anyone in, she wanted to try but it always failed. She had managed to self sabotage every 'friendship' she was beginning to make. The wrong thing always left her mouth, she would lash out and insult others. A defense mechanism in some way but for what?

Did she have a curse? To be alone forever? To always self sabotage everything? To desperately want to get along with others? To want to be right always?

There was something wrong with her, she knew something was wrong with her. How did she become like this? Was it her childhood? No, no she was raised perfectly. She got what she wanted and was practically a princess to her parents. They were rich after all. Her childhood was perfect. Yeah, she was quite a booster. Yeah, she may have flexed all her new toys she would get to the other kids but that's normal.

A group of girls stand in front of a eight year old Lee Na-yeon.

"Na-yeon, we don't like you anymore," one said, anger in her eyes.

"W-.. what?"

"You're just really mean and such a show off."

"No wait, no, no I didn't mean to be a show off!"

"No! Wait! Please! I'll change i swear! I promise! I'm sorry! I'm sorry sorry sorry sorry I'll change I'll chan-"

She shakes her head. It's not like any of that matters anymore though. Na-yeon is dead. She's a prisoner in her own mind. The pain of being 'eated' by that human-zombie bully was still ripe in her mind. She deserved it.

The pain she felt then was nothing compared to the emotional pain she felt. How she made easily the worst decision she had ever make, just to fucking prove she was right when she wasn't. She got her karma but it wasn't enough. She deserved to be punched, kicked, thrown off a building, ran over by a car, break every single bone and then turn into a zombie.

Gyeong-su didn't deserve that.
He did not. Not all. He never deserved any of that. Not him. Anyone but him. Why did she do it? She didn't know. She just wanted to prove something.

Tears pour from her eyes as she curls up into a little ball, sobbing. She's shaking, her hair's a tangled mess and shes bloodied.

Gyeong-su, I'm so so sorry.

She hated him. She hated him. If she hated him then why does she miss his laughter so much? She was horrible to him. She had to hate him. She missed his kind eyes and smile. No, he hates her. he hated her especially for what she did. Nothing can change that. Nothing.

Salty tears rushed down her face like waterfalls. There was no stopping a waterfall.

Suddenly, a loud ruckus causes Na-yeon to look through the windows of her prison, to the real outside world. Drones flew up above in the sky, whizzing and whirring around. What in the fuck? First a zombie outbreak, now a robot revolution? Next thing she knows, something explodes. There's fire and ash everywhere before everything goes black.

Peaceful and quiet. Finally. She can rest now. Her memories of her life replay in her mind as she slowly felt herself succumbing to the cold darkness. The memories play in a small flash sequence.

"I- it's okay, thank y-you, guys for e- ev- everything.  really. stay, stay alive"

"You called me a welfie first,"

"You bitch,"

"Did you just call me a fucker? Fuck!"

"Hey guys. Stop fighting."

"Hi! See you later!"

"I fucking hate you."

"Why?! Why do you hate me so much,Na-yeon?!"

"Na-yeonie i like you."
