Winter time, the perfect time for that holiday joy, for children to play in the snow...
...Or to get snowed in. Like two unlucky souls did.
Normally, Rui and Nene would stay over at each other's houses for the weekends, alternating every so often. This weekend, they both happened to be at Nene's house. When she went to open the door for Rui to go back home, that's when it hit both of them.
The snowfall had been so heavy the night before that it wasn't practical to go out in this kind of weather at all. Or at least, that's what Rui said.
"...You live next door though. It's not like you're going halfway across Tokyo."
"But what if I slip? A poor thing like me could never last in this weather..."
She sighed. there's no way she's gonna convince him, so she might as well play along.
"Fiiiine, you can stay. Just until it's safer to go out."
"You're too kind... thank you!" He looked around. "So... what now?"
"....You... didn't even have any ideas of what to do now that you're here....?"
"Not really. I just like spending time with you."
Nene sighed, looking up at Rui with a "seriously?" look.
"We... uh, we can play games?"
"Oh, I didn't even think of that! You did say you had a new game, right?"
"Uh, yeah. We can play that one."
The two headed back to Nene's room to camp out in for the day, ready for this apparent gaming fest.
As soon as they got settled, Nene tossed a controller to Rui. He caught it, and she loaded up the game.
"...So, are you going to teach me how to pl-"
"Nah, I wanna see you try first."
He looked back and forth between the screen, showing the game now booting up, and the girl next to him, a bit of worry in his face. He's... never played this.
"What kind of game is this, by the way?"
"Oh, it's like Super Smash."
"Ah." He was semi-decent at those games.
This one, he would not be.
When he convinced himself he had somehow gotten everything down, somehow Nene found a new technique to prove him wrong. So he'd mimic what she did, and somehow she also found a way to counter that too.
Eventually, after a few rounds, he managed to finally beat her.
"Woah. You... got it."
"Y'know, I never thought I'd actually... do that. You're pretty good at this game, y'know."
"Thaaanks... it's just like every other game, honestly. I just carry over what I know from them. It's not that complicated."
"...You saw how many times I lost."
"...Just get better at the game, then." She smirked, returning his usual level of smugness.
"Hm... that just means I'll have to be over more then! And then maybe you'll teach me the game."
"I'll think about that one. I think you taught yourself pretty well. I mean... if it were anyone else, I think they would've given up by now."
"That is true..." He shrugged. "Onto to the next one, then!"
"Next what?"
"Next game! It'd be boring if we played the same game all day, after all..."
Rui got up, examining the CD cases nearby, looking for something else to play. He picked out something that piqued his interest, and handed it over to Nene. They took turns through the day picking out something, playing it, and changing it when they got bored.
Eventually, though, the end of the day rolled around, and... they had been completely oblivious to outside the entire time.
It snowed harder. Meaning...
"...Do you mind if I spend another night?"
