Chapter Text
“CODY! Battle positions!”
Grabbing his blaster, Cody did as he was told.
He always did what his General ordered him to do.
They fought together like cogs in a mechanism, never getting in each other’s way, movements fluid as they blasted and cut their way through the droid army.
“Cody! Bomb!”
Cody watched as the bomb rolled closer to his location, eyes widening behind the helmet.
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!
There was no time.
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP.
This was the end.
He closed his eyes as the timer reached one.
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP
Nothing.
“Cody!”
That was his brother’s voice. He opened his eyes, to see Rex staring down at him, his uniform blue where Cody’s was orange.
“Shut off that alarm, before I shut it off against your head!”
Alarm? What was he-
Something heavy suddenly hit him in the stomach, driving the breath from his lungs as he shot into a seated position, seeing Fives beaming up at him.
“Rex told me to wake you up!”
Right.
Looking around, he found himself back in his bedroom, not on a battlefield… with Obi-Wan nowhere to be found.
Just another dream.
“Rex also said to tell you, to have a cold shower if you were dreaming about Kenobi again.” Fives tilted his head to one side, “What did he mean?”
Damn Rex.
“Nothing.” Cody sighed, “He was just being silly. What time is it?”
“Umm… ten to eight!”
Kriff.
Sithspit.
“Is everyone else up?” Cody asked, rushing to get out of bed, nearly throwing Fives onto the floor, “Jesse? Kix? Echo? Tups?”
“Yeah, Rex got us all up and dressed.”
“And everyone’s had breakfast?”
Fives nodded, watching his big brother tripped over his own feet as he rushed to get changed, “Who’s Kenobi?”
“Not important.”
“Then why would you dream about him?”
“Just… go and make sure you have everything in your school bag.”
“Alright, alright!” Fives raced out of the room, allowing Cody to finish getting changed.
Looking around, Cody winced at the amount of dirty clothes on the floor, knowing that that was going to have to be the weekend job, otherwise they wouldn’t have anything for next week. Wearily, he made his way to the kitchen, relieved when he saw that Fives was telling the truth and that his brothers were all pretty much ready to go.
“Please don’t tell me you were having one of those nerdy dreams about Kenobi again.” Rex nudged him in the side, keeping his voice low so that the others couldn’t hear him, “Most people have wet dreams about their crushes you know.”
“Shut up, it’s not nerdy.”
“They’re dreams based around that Wars Of Stars show that you like.” Rex rolled his eyes, making Cody regret telling him about these dreams, “That is the height of nerdiness.”
Cody ignored him, vowing to get his revenge later. “You get Tup to nursery, and I’ll deal with the twins. Jesse, Kix, you two can head to school yourselves, can’t you?”
The other two nodded.
“Alright, let’s move out.” Cody sighed, “And don’t forget your lunches! Jesse, that means you!”
“Sir yes sir!”
“Hey!”
………………………………………..
Walking the twins to their school, Cody eavesdropped on the various conversations happening all around them.
About how people were glad that there was no more Algebra after today.
What they were going to do over the summer break.
Malls, lazing around by the pool, cinema trips.
They all sounded fun, but Cody knew that unless Father suddenly went through a miraculous change, and decided that his other sons were important, not just Boba, that wasn’t going to happen for them.
Father sent them enough money for rent, food and the other bills and that was it.
“Hey Anakin!”
Cody froze at the name, looking up to see Fives and Echo racing towards a young blonde boy about their own age.
And there, near Anakin, was his older brother Obi-Wan Kenobi.
He stood there, frozen in place as Obi-Wan smiled warmly at the two newcomers, gesturing towards their school with a clearly stern warning before waving them goodbye and leaving.
He raced right past Cody without even a second glance.
“Cody?”
Cody stopped his staring after the copper-haired teen, to glance down at his brothers, who had rushed back over to him, “Go on.” He sighed, “I’ll pick you up later, okay? Be good.”
They ran into the building, closely followed by Anakin.
With only half an hour left until the end-of-year assembly, Cody legged it to his school, narrowly avoiding running into Headmaster Yoda and Deputy Headmaster Windu as he entered the building.
“NO RUNNING!”
“Sorry Sir!”
Rounding a corner, hoping to head to the cafeteria and grab something to eat before it all started, he yelped as he suddenly bumped right into someone, sending them both crashing to the ground, books scattering everywhere.
“Sorry, sorry.” He muttered, rubbing at his head, before opening his eyes and trying not to groan.
Of. Kriffing. Course.
Obi-Wan Kenobi was rubbing at his lower back, moving to his knees to grab his books from off the floor. He gave Cody a small smile before asking, “Are you alright?”
Was it creepy to want to record someone’s voice for their accent alone?
Cody already knew the answer to this.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m okay.” He muttered, collected up the books and getting to his feet, practically shoving them into the other teen’s arms, avoiding all eye contact, “Y-You?”
He knew if he tried to say anything more, nothing but gibberish would come out.
Obi-Wan chuckled, “I’m tougher than I look you know.”
Cody joined in with the chuckling for a moment… until he snorted mid-laugh, cutting himself off at the sound, one hand clapped over his mouth.
Seconds later, he was racing away in the opposite direction, desperate to get away before he could embarrass himself any further.
He did end up almost tripping over a bin as he went, which didn’t help.
As he rounded the corner, snarling to himself in frustration, he failed to see Obi-Wan staring after him, a soft smile on his face.
