Work Text:
Chloe was running down some back alley in Los Angeles, the wind making her ponytail clad hair fly in the wind, strands coming loose as she went.
“LAPD. Stop. Or I will shoot,” Chloe called out to the person she was chasing. An alleged suspect in a nearby shooting, though Chloe assumed she was guilty on account of the fact that he had gone running at the first hint of her badge coming out of her pocket.
The runner did not stop and her energy reserves were almost out, her legs were burning, yet, still she kept on going. The rattle of a chain link fence made her hasten her pace. There was no way she was letting her escape.
Chloe sped up when the offender was in her sights, half-way up the fence but still within her reach.
She could have shot then. There were no civilians around and no hostages for her to hit.
Except, that would make her just like them. It would make her something that she was not.
Besides, there was no conclusive evidence that she was the shooter.
She might’ve been innocent.
Instead she launched herself at the fence, managing to grab the culprit by her foot. One sharp yank later and Chloe found herself falling to the ground and the wind knocked out of her.
Her gun was sent skittering out of her hand. A weight hit her. The commotion frightened a rat out from its hiding position behind a garbage can.
Chloe’s attention was drawn to it and that was all her assailant needed.
And then something hit her face, she bought her hands up to fend off the attacker.
Her hands grabbed the object she had been hit with - a gun.
Her suspicions were correct as it matched the calibre which was described in the dispatch call.
It was pointed at her and a moment of regret hit her instantly. There was something she had left unsaid. Something which she wished she had said, but had never dared to say out loud. And one face appeared within her mind. The one which she thought of often. Maze.
“Bitch,” The woman spat at her, still holding the gun trained at her, Chloe and her were in a battle of physical strength, Chloe to remove the gun from pointing at her and them to keep it trained on her, and Chloe was losing.
The woman's eyes were wild and Chloe knew that the slightest reaction would cause her to press the trigger.
The gun aligned with her face once more, “Night, night, bitch.”
Again, Chloe thought about what she needed to get off her chest. She needed to tell Maze something.
And then the gun went off.
Harmlessly, though.
As a blur of movement knocked the weight off her.
Chloe sat up, her hand going to her head.
“You will rot in hell for this,” Chloe heard Maze say as her eyes saw that Maze already had the unknown female against the wall.
Maze had opted to bring daggers to a gunfight, but seemingly she had it all in hand, as the woman no longer had a weapon in her hands and Maze still had her daggers.
It had gone in Maze’s favour, a little too well in Maze’s favour as she was still threatening to gouge eyes out and see to her eternal punishment personally.
Chloe stood, coming to Maze’s side, her hand reaching out, ghosting over her shoulder, “Maze.”
The single word. The momentary distraction was all it took.
Maze looking back at her over her shoulder, her grip loosening enough for the woman to draw a knife from her jacket, was enough to spur Chloe into action.
Chloe pushed Maze with all her might, putting herself in harm's way over her. She reached for the knife with both her hands, intended to disarm her opponent.
Her hands and quick thinking, managed to stop it before it imbedded itself anywhere, cutting one of her hands in the process as she wrangled it out of her hands.
And then, every thing happened so quickly. Maze moved like a demon from hell, knocking out the woman on the alleys wall, and then Chloe found herself on the end of her wrath. Maze’s hands roughly pushed her backwards, swinging her around.
And then her stormy gaze was right in front of hers, making Chloe’s breath hitch - Maze looked positively feral. Chloe was sure the whites of her eyes were just about the only thing Maze could see, as Maze's dark eyes were all she could see.
“Why did you do this?” Maze questioned her angrily, holding her against the wall, not dissimilarly to how she had held the woman who now lay on the floor, in a pile of detritus. Maze’s dagger was still threateningly in her hand.
“Because I love you!” Chloe blurted out at her, her temper still high strung from seeing that Maze had been in danger. And all of what had happened, her mind still thinking about what she had wanted to say. It slipped out, unbidden. A rise of anxiety welled up inside her, she couldn't quite believe what she had just admitted to.
The declaration was enough to make Maze take a step back, the hand containing the dagger falling to her side.
Maze’s precious dagger dropped to the floor.
Rejection hit her all at once and she opened her mouth to retract her statement when Maze stepped back into her, molding their bodies together as her lips hit hers.
Maze started leading the kiss and Chloe, not wanting to be left behind, moved her lips against Maze’s with equal ferocity.
Months of waiting and pent up frustrations led to the this and Chloe was going to make the most of it
“You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting to do that,” Chloe said, when she had to break the kiss in order to gulp more air into her lungs.
“Not as long as I have,” Maze replied back to her, before moving in to take another kiss from her. "I've been waiting an eternity."
But before their lips could meet once more, sirens blared out in the night.
LAPDs finest were about to arrive and now was not the time nor the place for further canoodling.
Chloe had to get her work head back on and Maze had to disappear.
