Summary
The warrior Isilwane, known as the Maiden of Tyra, comes home after the war to find that a Beast has been ravaging the countryside. She learns it’s a Manticore - a monster with the body of a lion, wings of a bat, a stinger like a scorpion... but a face almost like a man. This beast has escaped from the nearby Lord’s private zoo, and in her efforts to capture it, she wounds it. When she decides to mend its wing instead of killing it, they talk and get to know each other better.
Now a blizzard rolls in and they find shelter in a cave.
