The thought of his kin cuts sharper than any blade. Lying down every night with his lover wrapped snugly between his arms shouldn't feel like a sacrifice. Yet Bag End's soft pillows and warm hearth cannot numb the sting of knowing that the only reason he now calls it home is because the kingdom under the mountain is healthier with him outside its halls.
