“You…kissed me…” Disbelief laced Simon’s words as he cautiously spoke, a hand raising to gently touch his parted lips.
“Yeah…” Markus sounded breathless as he replied, as if the suddenness of what he had just done had taken him by surprise too.
The blond had fantasized about this for so long. Had thought it was something that would only ever exist in his imagination. Afterall, it had seemed too good to ever be true - at least for him. He had never expected it to become a reality. Especially so with the other initiating it out of seemingly nowhere.
Apparently, he had gotten a little too lost thinking about his fantasies, a far off look glazing his eyes and his lips frozen agape.
“Simon…? Simon…? Hey, you okay?” Markus sounded concerned as he spoke.
”Hm…?” Simon blinked a few times to clear his head, a fuzzy fog remaining even then. He wasn’t sure of all of what the other had just said to him or how much, if any, he had completely missed. He…hadn’t realized just how out of it the kiss had left him.
Markus frowned. “Was it that bad? You zoned out pretty hard there.”
“No!” Simon blushed at how quick his response had been. “No…it wasn’t bad.”
“Then what was wrong?”
“Wrong?” The curious question had only confused the blond. He didn’t know why Markus was so insistent on something being wrong - the kiss had been perfect, magnificent, everything he had dreamed of.
“Yeah.” Markus brought a hand to the back of his neck and scratched at it anxiously. “I know it was pretty out of line but you were talking so negatively and I figured it would be a good way to shut you up and I’ve been wanting to do that for so long and I guess I just couldn’t hold back any longer and... Sorry.”
It was…weird to hear Markus nervously babble on, his voice rising in pitch as he went on. He could give speeches to thousands, but apparently kissing his best friend was his limit.
The sudden confession had left Simon speechless, his mind racing to find a response. “I… you wanted that…?”
“Yeah?” Markus gave an awkward smile. “Like I said, I’ve wanted to for a while…”
“ You… ? B-but you dated North… You’re not into guys…”
“Huh? What gave you that idea? Just because I dated her for a while doesn’t mean I don’t like guys too.”
“Huh…?” Simon had convinced himself of that so strongly. Had spent so many days and nights denying himself even a chance of being liked back half as strongly as he loved the other. It was hard to accept anything else.
Markus simply smiled. “I’m bi. At least, I think so. It feels right.”
“You…like guys…?”
“Yeah.” His smile faltered. “Do you…have a problem with that?”
“No! No, no, no, no! I’m gay! Very very gay!” In his panic, Simon hadn’t quite realized what he had said. Not until Markus gave a soft, amused chuckle and a bright blush arose on pale cheeks.
“Well, that’s a good start. Because I’d very much like to kiss you again, if you’re okay with it.”
A wide grin spread across Simon’s face and he found himself unable to form words. Instead, he eagerly nodded, very much okay with getting another kiss.
Markus simply chuckled again and gave a half smirk. “Come here and I’ll give you one, then.”
Simon only hesitated for a moment, too flustered by the prompt to act on it, before doing exactly that. Stepping towards Markus, he looked up at him expectantly and soon found himself melting into another kiss.
Maybe, just maybe, his self-denying thoughts were wrong and his little fantasy of being with Markus could come true after all.
