Yakuza Royalty

Summary:

Y/n is the only child and now head of the Y/l/n clan, the only other family still under the Shie Hassaikai. Kai Chisaki and Y/n grew up together. Y/n watched as Kai constantly caused trouble ‘in the name of the Yakuza,’ and Kai watched as Y/n got praised for every little thing they did. Now, Y/n reports directly to Kai, but their familiarity causes Y/n to undermine and question his authority, something Overhaul seems to overlook.

Notes:

Did I learn how Shogi is played for this? I absolutely did, but I can’t even grasp chess as a game. So, bear with me for that.

Chapter Text

The room was quiet, the only sound was the occasional moving of wooden game pieces. A long abandoned teapot held cold oolong tea. Y/n and Shin Nemoto were in an intense game of Shogi, trying to determine who the better player between them was, and was in the endgame now. Y/n had pulled their short hair into a small bun on the top of their head long ago. Adjusting the mask on their face, Y/n moves their hisha to the diagonal of Shin’s blocked in king setting it into checkmate.

“How did you just win? Did you cheat?” Shin asks exasperated.

“Maybe if you took that big mask off, you could see the board better.” Y/n laughs, leaning back against the couch.

The door to the small meeting room opened, causing the pair to look. Kai Chisaki enters but stops seeing the two sitting.

“I was told you’d be away this weekend, Y/l/n,” Chisaki’s husky words filled the room, closing the door behind him, blocking the only door out.

“Oh, there was a change of plans,” Y/n sighs. “Increased hero patrols because of recent thug attacks in the area. Not great for a low profile kidnapping. We’ll do it once the hero's presence lowers.”

“And you made that decision yourself?” Chisaki’s voice was flat, never any emotion coming through.

“I tried to call,” Y/n started, getting up and standing in front of Chisaki. “Was told you were busy. Someone had to make the call. What’s the point of being the second in command if I can’t make any decisions?”

A quiet humph came from behind Chisaki’s mask as he sidestepped and went to take the spot Y/n was previously sitting. Y/n opened the door to leave when Chisaki started to speak.

“Tonight is a masquerade gala and I need a date. I expect you to be ready by 5,” Chisaki droned. “And stop using my Shogi set.”

“Buy me my own set and I won’t have to use yours,” Y/n’s remark bounced off the walls as they left the door slightly ajar.

Y/n’s steps could be heard disappearing down the hall. Chisaki stood back up, closing the door and sitting back down to start his meeting with Nemoto.

“Why do you let them talk to you in such a way?” Nemoto asks.

Chisaki scooped the wooden pieces into their small silk pouch, leaving the two in silence as he did so. He would tell himself he could just kick Y/n to the curb anytime he wanted, dismantle them with a touch of his finger if he wanted. Their fathers were close since before Chisaki was even a part of their lives. The boss always liked Y/n, sometimes more than Chisaki himself. The truth was, Chisaki owed Y/n a debt. A few actually. The number of times Y/n’s quirk had got him out of being arrested or killed was more than he’d like to admit. He also hated to admit their quirk was useful. The idea made his skin crawl, but he was still figuring out how to use Y/n’s quirk like he was with Eri.

“How is Eri?” Chisaki asks.

“She’s doing well. Sleeping most of the day.”

A short hum comes from Chisaki as their meeting continues.

Fronting as Kai Chisaki’s date was always a process. It required specific cleaning procedures outlined by Chisaki himself. Y/n stood under the hot shower water motionless as they took a deep breath. They dealt with each other for both of their fathers’ sake. When Y/n’s father’s Yakuza group merged under the Shie Hassaikai, they were suddenly working together a lot more. Then when both the boss and their father went into comas, Y/n was now working under Chisaki. Y/n watched the slow radicalization of the Shie Hassaikai, but was powerless to stop it. Y/n could resist Chisaki’s quirk thanks to their own, but knew they’d struggle to protect the members they were responsible for from Chisaki.

Steam came from Y/n’s arms as they stepped out of the shower. After drying off, they reentered their room in the underground facility. Chisaki insisted that any key members of the Shie Hassaikai reside there, and as the leader of the only other family branch associated with the Hassaikai, that included Y/n. Sitting on their bed was a neatly laid out suit. It was a similar green to Chisaki’s normal fur jacket, but Y/n would be shocked if he actually wore that to something like a gala. The black button up was soft as they buttoned it, and the black string tie was silk. A new pair of oxfords sat at the foot of the bed and slipped on smoothly. Y/n donned their black facemask from earlier.

A small knock sounded at the door. Opening the door, Y/n finds a frightened woman with a large travel box in her arms.

“I- it’s been a long time since I’ve been called by the Hassaikai,” the woman almost whispers.

“It has, hasn’t it. Follow me,” Y/n says with a smile and leads the woman inside. “You used to do my mother's makeup for events. But we were never properly introduced.”

“Yes, your mother was always very kind. You can call me Ono,” the woman seemed to relax at Y/n’s calm voice. “How is she?”

“Not around anymore,” Y/n spoke in a flat voice, sitting at the vanity in their room.

No more conversation was had between the two as Ono did both Y/n’s makeup and hair. An hour passes before she’s complete and leaves. It was half an hour before they needed to be ready. Leaving their room, Y/n slowly walks back towards the meeting room they were in before. Knocking on the door, Y/n enters before a response could be given. Inside sat a couple of the Eight Bullets and a neatly dressed Chisaki.

“You look nice, Y/l/n,” Menoto said first.

“Thank you,” Y/n sighs before continuing. A sharp kind of venom fills their words, “is there a reason you hired my mother's makeup artist, Kai?”
