Chapter 1: Rabbit Hole

Chapter Text

Somewhere in a Kingdom, whose inhabitants are nothing but jovial and prosperous. Rulers were respected and loved by their subjects.

The King and Queen were wise yet kind. Ever so generous to their people. And the prince, oh how they love their little boy. They would spoil him to no end.

Quite the child I must say, clever and talented. A little gentleman too. As much as he likes to be spoiled by his parents, being able to sing with his mother, dance with his father and to learn more things with them is what he loves the most.

They we're a happy family of three. Such happiness lasted for 10 years.

Only 10 years.

A tragedy struck as the King had acquired a very lethal illness. The Queen was distressed, telling all the best physicians they have to save her dying husband. You can imagine the servants scurrying back and fort the King's chambers.

But nothing can save the King from the inevitable. His death was announced all over the Kingdom. Such depressing days for the people.

The Queen had suffered greatly with her beloved now gone. She spent her days locked in her room. Mourning, weeping in the solitude of her room. Refusing to eat or get out.

And the prince?

Oh, the little darling was upset. Truly. After the death of his dear father, he has yet to see his mother come out of her chambers. Yet to hear her mother sing him to sleep again. Join him to read in the library again. Be with him again

He felt.... alone.

Then, one night. As the prince tucked himself to sleep. He heard a knock. The door softly opened at as he allowed the visitor to enter.

The boy was stunned to see his dear mother, standing there with a soft smile.

"Mother... " The prince softly said.

"Alastor, my darling.. " He heard her, "My dear, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for all of this."

The boy looked at his mother drawing nearer and sat on his bed. "Alastor dear. You know your mother loves you very much, yes?"

He nodded and felt her hands gently touch his face, it was cold. He didn't know why, but he's having a very bad feeling.

"Darling, you love Mother, right?" He nodded again, "Then, promise me. You'll always keep smiling and take care of yourself. And never let this Kingdom fall in despair. Understand?"

He took a moment to process her words. He was confused, "Mother? Are you going somewhere? Are you leaving me?"

"Sh...... Promise me, my love." He felt her fingers wiping the tears forming in his eyes.

"I-I promise Mother..." Through all his confusing emotions, he gave his mother a smile.

"There's my boy." She gave him a smile, yet it showed melancholy, "You'll be a fine King, Alastor. As great as your Father and I combined. I'm sorry, my love."

She leaned in and gave his forehead a kiss. Cold. She feels cold

"Mother, you're cold. Why are you cold?" She only smiled.

"Mother, why? Why are you aren't you answering? Are you leaving me?"

The Queen stood up and slowly began to fade. "Smile my dear.."

"Mother! Don't leave me!" The prince tried to reach her. Tears pricking his eyes.

"I'm sorry." Giving him her last smile, she vanished.

"MOTHER!!!" He's surroundings then became black and he fainted.

¤—¤—¤

On a clear spring day by the creek. A woman walks alone in the solitude of the field. Her delicate face is graced with nothing but a contented smile.

"Oh, such a wonderful day. I really needed a breather from all that stress and hustle." Her voice, melodic and sweet gave off an innocent vibe as she sighed softly. Tucking a few strands of her golden locks behind her ear.

Charlotte, or Charlie as she likes more, has been very busy. Not even giving herself a time out before she was swept up again by a few more clients needing this and that. Quite a headache now she remembers it. She's really grateful that she can finally get her well deserved break.

Stopping by a flower patch, she knelt down to enjoy the fragance and beauty of each flora. Yet, as she reached to pluck one, she heard rustling from a nearby bush. She stood up to check on what caused the rustle.

Halfway near the bush, Charlie paused mid-step as a pair of bunny ears pokes out. Quite unusual because the ears are pinkish red in color.

Without anymore chance to think, the creature quickly began to move and Charlie was driven by curiosity to follow.

Weaving through the thick forest, avoiding a few stray branches and jumping over roots and fallen logs. Just as Charlie thought she lost the creature, she heard muttering.

"Oh dear me, this is bad. Very bad, bad, bad! I'm late, terribly late! Oh boss will be very mad!" From a nearby tree, Charlie spotted the bunny ears. Compelled to draw nearer, yet she halted so suddenly.

To her astonishment, the ears were not attached to a rabbit as she thought, but a petite girl. The girl had a short and scruffy red-pink hair with a pair of bunny ears. In her black gloved hand was a rose gold pocket watch chained to the waist of her red skirt and had her back aimed at Charlie.

"Hey wait!" Charlie blurted without thinking. The girl turned around, and Charlie was even more stunned. The shorter one's eye was widened in shock, red lips shaped in an "o" on her pale yellow skin.

"Oh goodness, who are you? Did you follow me? How are you he—" Her watch started ringing, "Oh no! I'm still late! No more chit-chat! Goodbye!"

Charlie saw the bunny-girl put the watch in her pocket and turns to hop in a hollow surrounded by tree roots behind her.

Charlie slowly trekked nearer to peek through the dark and deep hole, "Strange...."

Positioning herself on the mouth of the pit before breathing in, "Here goes nothing..." Then she slid down the inky black passage.
