Everything was fine. Then it wasn’t. Calem was just helping his mom, Grace, out with household chores. He was washing the dishes and his mom was dusting around the house, no big deal. They talked about things from time to time but for the most part, did things in comfortable silence. That was until Grace decided to convey some pretty heavy information.
“You know Augustine, right?”
Calem thought for a moment. “Oh, Professor Sycamore? Yeah, I know him, he’s chill.”
“Well, I’m glad you think that! We’re getting married!”
Dishes crashed and clanked together in the sink. “What.” Just then, there was a knock at the door. His mom put the duster down before going to answer it leaving Calem alone to process things. It wasn’t exactly a bad thing, per se; he had always viewed Professor Sycamore as a father-ish figure anyway. He was just surprised, was all.
“Oh, August! So nice of you to drop by!” Calem’s eyes snapped to the door. Indeed, the professor was standing in the doorway. He handed Grace a bouquet and gave her a kiss. Calem was close to vomiting. Professor Sycamore walked in. He was dressed far more casually than Calem had ever seen him, clad in a sweater and jeans instead of what he usually wore.
“Hey, champ!” Calem jumped when the man waved to him but waved back nonetheless. “Now, you may be wondering why I’m here.” Calem nodded. “It’s because Grace and I wanted to tell you something!” He and Calem’s mom were now side by side. Calem tried to ignore how the man’s hand was on his mom’s waist.
“I already know you guys are getting married. Congrats, by the way.” Calem gave an awkward thumbs up.
Professor Sycamore laughed. “Thank you, but it’s not that.”
Grace nodded. “I just wanted to let you know,” she glanced up at the man before looking back to her son, “you’re getting a little sibling!” Calem froze. He looked at Professor Sycamore, who was smirking and had a glint in his eye. He shook his head slowly. The professor nodded.
“NO!!!!!!!!!!!!” Calem screamed before running upstairs. He slammed the door to his room and face-planted onto his bed. He was crying. He did the very first thing he could think of: calling his boyfriend. He grabbed his phone and dialed the number and waited while it rang.
“Hello?”
“SOPROFESSORSYCAMORECAMEOVERANDMYMOMSAIDTHEYWEREGETTINGMARRIEDWHICHISFINEBUTTHENSHESAIDSHEWASPREGNANTANDPROFESSORSYCAMOREHADTHISLOOKINHISEYESAND-”
“Cay, calm down, I can’t understand what you’re saying. Is everything okay? Why are you crying?”
Calem took a deep breath before trying again. “Professor Sycamore fucked my mom, Hilbert.”
There was a long pause. “I.. what..? Calem, what?”
“PROFESSOR SYCAMORE FUCKED MY MOM!!!” Calem practically wailed.
“I heard you, I heard you! Jeez! That’s… wow, I’m sorry, that sounds like a lot.”
“And now she’s pregnant with his child. So he’s given me a little sibling before he’s even become my step-dad. Can you imagine how that feels?” He sniffled.
“No, I can’t. What’re you gonna do?”
“What can I do? No matter how hard I try, I’ll never be able to make him unfuck my mom.”
