Summary
Kaveh has felt their relationship get better over time but with it came the gnawing feeling at the back of his mind that they will fall into the same pattern once again. So he does what he does best when he starts worrying … he overworks. One thing leads to the next and next thing you know he’s sneaking in late after a rough evening at Lambads. He’s certain he’ll be hungover but that’s a problem for tomorrow. However, when he wakes he’s met with an atmosphere he’s never seen before. One that’s not exactly … home.
Meanwhile Aventurine, had accepted the fact he was staying with the IPC. His gamble so to speak paid off and he’s once again victorious to any onlooker. The only person not feeling that way is him. It’s not like self loathing goes away in one day after all but additionally that doctors note keeps looking at him funny. He doesn’t want to think about it … except he does and quite often. Maybe with a bit overworking he can dull the senseless questions away. So that’s exactly what he does .. except when he awakes he finds himself elsewhere. A place that looks like home but … not to him.
TLDR: Kaveh and Aventurine switch places and choas ensues.

When practice is done and he’s showered, he checks his phone.
The 16 messages from Lily are expected with Ilya traveling to Detroit this week. Ilya has a strong but unsupported hatred of Detroit. The ‘vibes are bad Shane’ was the last claim Shane had heard and he is prepared to read even less substantiated claims.
He’s unprepared to see a group chat he’s been added to.
Shane is only a part of a few group chats. One that Rose put together with a bunch of her not out queer friends that he keeps muted but likes to scroll through every once in a while (they have good memes). The group chat with the whole team he only keeps up with for Captain Reasons but keeps it muted too. The one with both of his parents that his mom uses more often than her single thread with him cause ‘Your Dad deserves to be in the loop too’. And finally the one with Jackie and Hayden which is mostly him and Jackie bullying Hayden and Hayden being increasingly frustrated with their antics.

Summary
It's not like Ilya being an omega is some big dirty secret. In the NHL, every player has to self-identify their secondary gender for safety reasons. Shane's always considered himself lucky to be a beta. No mating cycles to worry about and only the occasional amount of hormonal bullshit when things get tense in the locker room. Otherwise, he's grateful his instincts don't impact him as much as they seem to impact everyone around him. He's the only beta on the Metros and he's lost count of how many times he's had to get between other players to stop them from posturing or attempting to bite each other over hockey.
Ilya's one of three omegas on the Raiders, which is probably why their team is known for violence. There's nothing more terrifying on the face of this Earth than a pissed off omega, Shane would know.
