Fansigns. This is the kind of event that is adored by idols and artists alike. They are able to interact with their fans one-on-one, and they allow themselves to indulge in their fans' silly and simple requests. They can see their fans’ smiles closer as they wear the cute costumes they brought for them or as they shyly ask to hold hands. Unfortunately though, because of the pandemic, they can only see their fans through small screens. It becomes harder to talk through the laggy connections, and they can barely accept requests.
Nonetheless, Soonyoung still thrives in these online fansigns. He acts a little louder than usual to make up for the awkward silences when the connection fails. He smiles a whole lot brighter to reach the fan he was talking to from across the globe. He entertains the fans' requests as much as he can. And he talks to them with all the sincerity and care that he can muster even if they are separated by distances apart.
However, there are also times when Soonyoung wishes that he didn’t have all these fansigning events to attend. Especially during those times where he’s too tired and lacks the energy that he usually exerts when doing fansigns, or during those times where he’s just not in the mood to talk to other people, and just wants to be by himself for a while. But since these are schedules that he can’t forgo, he puts his feelings behind first and puts up a smile as he talks to his fans again.
He doesn’t really have a problem with that most of the time. He’s been in the industry for years, and he should be used to it already. But that’s the thing. He’s been doing it for years, and he just wants to have this day off from any schedule. It’s Valentine's day, and he wants to spend it with someone else. Though, his company scheduled this special fansign event during Valentine's day.
Except, no one knows that he wants to spend it with someone else.
He wants to spend Valentine’s day with the person he loves. The one who he has been dating for a few years now, his lovely boyfriend. However, no one knows about their relationship, except some of their friends, and they are yet to talk about it with his company. It’s not like his company doesn’t allow him to have a relationship, and his fans are not against it either. In fact, they’ve been telling him that he’s at the right age to date and that they would be happy for them.
Still, his boyfriend is a little shy and doesn’t like being in the public eye. Plus, they want to keep their relationship lowkey and to themselves for a while. And although they know that they would eventually have to tell their fans and agency about their relationship, for now, they are content with them and a few of their closest friends knowing about them.
But of course, things in life will always have pros and cons. They might be happy with keeping their relationship to themselves, but since his agency doesn’t know about it, they are bound to schedule events during special days like this. But it’s okay. He has a free day later, and they could go on a date late at night. That way, they wouldn’t have to worry about anyone sneaking up on them as well.
So for now, Soonyoung just has to get through this schedule, and they could have the rest of the day to themselves. That’s what Soonyoung is doing right now. He puts on his brightest smile for everyone who attended his fansign, willingly answered their questions, and tried his best to do their requests. He had fun with everyone even if it was done virtually, but he was also thankful that it was done. He just now wanted to rest and enjoy the day with his boyfriend.
“Hyung, that’s the last one, right?” Soonyoung asked his manager in front of him just to be sure.
Seungcheol, his manager, stared at him apologetically before answering. “Just one more. Then promise, you have the rest of the day for yourself. And with him as well.”
Soonyoung chuckled at his manager before motioning to give him the phone. “Alright, alright. Just give it to me already so that I can go home now.”
Soonyoung let his hyung prepare the phone and inform the fan what to do while he fumbles with the special Valentine's photobook in front of him, looking for the page where he usually signs.
He signs the page first with his signature before looking up to ask for the fan’s name. “Hi!! What’s your- JIHOON!! What are you doing here?!”
To his surprise, Jihoon, his boyfriend of three years, was staring at him through the screen while shyly waving at him.
“Hi, Soonyoung! Glad to know that you remember my name. I'm a really big fan of yours. Can you write a message for me there so that I can read it when it gets delivered?” Jihoon was still smiling at him, and Soonyoung was too flustered to answer.
“Soonyoung, your fan is waiting,” Seungcheol told him while laughing softly at the other while Jihoon did the same.
Soonyoung got back to his senses and glared at his manager and at his boyfriend. “Stop laughing at me! I didn’t know you’d be surprising me like this.”
“It wouldn’t be much of a surprise if we told you, would it?” Jihoon teased.
“Why are you like this…” Soonyoung whined. “How were you even able to pull this off?”
Jihoon looked Soonyoung in the eye while smiling at him again. “Well, I bought a copy of your photobook just like your other fans. And being your producer has its perks. Plus, I’m close with your manager, so we were able to pull some strings.”
Soonyoung glanced at Seungcheol looking grateful for his help, but the other only smiled at him and brushed it off. “You deserve it. You’re working instead of spending the day with your date, so I helped Jihoon with his little surprise.”
“Thank you, Seungcheol hyung! I’m really glad that you’re my manager! I’ll treat you and Jeonghan hyung for your dinner tonight since you’re also working with me instead of being with him.” Soonyoung leaned forward to hug his hyung.
“You don’t have to. Plus, I want to treat him myself since he’s my boyfriend after all, and it’s Valentine's day. You can treat us on another day.” Seungcheol laughed as he hugged the other back.
Jihoon faked a cough to get their two’s attention back, and Soonyoung immediately scrambled back to his seat. “Hey! I still paid for that so, I would want a message written on it, and hopefully, it would be delivered to me soon.”
Soonyoung smiled to himself as he sincerely wrote a letter for Jihoon while the other just fondly stared at him. And when he was done, he quickly showed it to the latter but did not allow him to read it before closing the photobook and asking his hyung to pack it into its original box. “It’ll be personally delivered to you through a special courier, so I hope you’ll wait for it.”
The three of them laughed at Soonyoung’s antics while Seungcheol carefully packed his artist’s special package and gave it to him. “Come on. Pack your things quickly, so that I could send you home to your lover and so that I can come home to mine.”
“You don’t have to, hyung. I can drive myself home so that you can come home now as well.” Soonyoung says as he quickly packs his bag.
“I know, but I promised to send you home. Plus, you’re too giddy right now, so I’m not sure if you can keep yourself calm enough to go home,” Seungcheol teases.
Soonyoung sulked as he finished packing his bags while the two laughed at him. “I’m done now. Can you please stop laughing at home so we can go now?”
“See you’re too excited!” Seungcheol teasingly pointed out and Soonyoung sulked even more. “Come on now. I promise I’ll stop. Say goodbye to Jihoon for now then we can leave.”
“Alright, fine.” Soonyoung stared back at his phone and realized that he forgot to talk to the other while packing his bag. “I’m sorry I wasn’t able to talk to you a lot. Seungcheol hyung kept teasing me. But we’re going home now.”
Jihoon watched him fondly while chuckling softly. “It’s alright. The two-minute mark for the fansign was done anyway.”
Soonyoung jokingly glared at him, which made the other laugh again.
“I thought you’re going to go home now. Come home faster. I miss you already…” Jihoon said while his cheeks turned red.
Soonyoung squealed, hearing Jihoon admit that he misses him, and makes him want to come home that instant. “Alright, I’ll be leaving now. Do you want us to get you something from somewhere?”
Jihoon shook his head no while looking softly at Soonyoung. “No need. I have everything prepared here, you’re just the only one missing.”
Soonyoung screamed because of Jihoon, and Seungcheol only cringed at them. “Ji! When did you get so cheesy?!” Seungcheol shouted on the side.
“Shut up Cheol hyung. Bring my boyfriend home safe, will you? Or else I’ll tell Jeonghan hyung about your secrets before you two started dating!” Jihoon threatened.
Seungcheol immediately grabbed the phone from the desk before saying goodbye to Jihoon and ending the call. “Goodbye Jihoon! Wait for your boyfriend at home.”
“I wasn’t able to say goodbye to Jihoon yet. Why did you end the call hyung?” Soonyoung complained as Seungcheol dragged him out of the room.
“Just text him so that we can go home already. I’ll just drop these other phones off and say that I’ll send you home already. Wait for me at the lobby.” Seungcheol said as they went outside.
Soonyoung held onto Seungcheol’s wrist before he could even leave. “You used the company’s phone when you called Jihoon?”
Seungcheol immediately softened at Soonyoung when he said that. He knows he’s worried that his and Jihoon’s relationship may be known by the agency if they used the company phone during the fansign. He simply patted the other’s back to calm him down. “No, Soonyoung. I used my work phone so that we’ll all be safe, okay?”
“Thanks, hyung. I shouldn’t have panicked. I know you wouldn’t do anything like that to us…” Soonyoung answered while hugging his hyung.
“It’s okay Soons. Will you wait for me in the lobby now? So that I can quickly return these and then we can go home,” Seungcheol said as they started walking again.
Soonyoung nods at him as he waves at his hyung when they need to part first.”Oki hyung. I’ll wait for you in the lobby. Do you want me to text Jeonghan hyung that we’re done already as well?”
“Sure. Thanks, Soons. I’ll be quick.” Seungcheol said as he hurried towards the office, and Soonyoung made his way towards the lobby.
When he reached the lobby, he immediately texted Jihoon.
To: My Jihoonie <3:
Jihoon! Sorry I wasn’t able to say goodbye earlier. But I’m just waiting for hyung, and then we’ll be on our way home. Love you!!
From: My Jihoon <3:
It’s alright. I’ll be waiting for you. See you later, and I love you too.
“Seungcheol hyung is right. I may be too giddy to go home on my own.” Soonyoung thinks as he softly squeals to himself to not attract the attention of others. He sends a small heart again and a bunch of nonsensical words before reminding himself that he needs to text his Jeonghan hyung.
To: Jeonghannie Hyung:
Hannie Hyung!! We’re done with the fansign already. I’m just waiting for Seungcheol hyung to be back from the office. Then he’ll send me home first, and you can have him until tomorrow. Enjoy your date with hyung!
From: Jeonghannie Hyung:
Thanks, Soonie! Both of you stay safe, and enjoy your date with Jihoon as well!!
He was sending a few heart emojis to his hyung when someone suddenly spoke beside him. “Are you ready to go now?”
As Soonyoung was recovering from his shock, Seungcheol laughed at him while soothing his hands on the other’s back to calm him down. “Sorry, Soons. I didn’t think that you would be surprised.”
Soonyoung glared at his hyung, and when he calmed down, he nodded at his hyung while dragging him. “Yes hyung. Let’s go!”
They made their way towards the car while trying to avoid as many people as they could, immediately leaving as soon as they reached the car and after making sure they had everything with them and that they were all buckled up.
On their way home, they talked about various things. They talked about the fansign, Soonyoung’s next schedules, and what they’re going to do with their partners for Valentine's day. It wasn’t a long way home, but since it’s already a bit late and a holiday, it took them a little longer to reach Soonyoung’s home.
When they reached their destination, Soonyoung immediately bid goodbye to his hyung before coming out of the car and waving goodbye as Seungcheol drove away from the driveway. He then made his way towards their porch and immediately opened the door, although quietly, so that he could surprise Jihoon a bit.
As soon as he reached their living room, he saw Jihoon waiting for him. He had set up a blanket fort, a bunch of movies they could watch, and some foods that they could share while watching. Jihoon prepared a lovely movie date for both of them. And this just made this day so much better.
“Jihoon…” he muttered as he stared at the other who was setting up even more snacks.
Jihoon looked and saw Soonyoung before running towards him and wrapping his arms around the latter. Soonyoung then hugged him back before placing a kiss on his forehead.
“You’re home…” Jihoon whispered as he buried his face on Soonyoung’s chest.
“You’re my home,” Soonyoung whispered back as he pulled Jihoon in to kiss him.
With that, they went to the blanket fort Jihoon made as they cuddled to their hearts’ content as they watched movies and alternately fed each other.
It might have been a simple celebration, but it was theirs. They were both there, loving each other. And for now, they don’t have to care about the world around them, as long as they are in each other’s arms.
