Mark had always known that Jaehyun was someone to look up to, all of his dongsaengs and hyungs did, he had just never actually /met/ Jaehyun. He had seen him in passing and had said hi whenever they were around each other but mark had honestly preferred just staying to his Johnny Hyungs side. But Johnny was not very happy, he just wanted his friends to all be friends, so he called in a favor, in exchange for stepping back for the first round of debut in the NCT project, he was promised that Jaehyun and Mark would be roommates. So in the last month before debut, roommates they became, moving into their first official dorm, filming the music video, and all the other shenanigans started, they didn’t have much free time, but when they did they were a good duo, constantly making their Hyungs’ lives hell, and at one point the even made ten pee his pants a little— but with this time spent together and with these shenanigans and stuff, they both had realized that it was more than just friendship, For Mark, his Jaehyun Hyung was his knight in shining armor, way more special than his johnny Hyung was. And this was huge news for Mark, he couldn’t think of other men like this! Much less his jaehyun Hyung like this!
For Jaehyun, he had realized that shit, he was falling in love with his roommate, his groupmate, and suddenly he was gay? He realized it very vividly, when marks round, shiny, eyes had looked up at him and his pretty, oh so pretty mouth had muttered the words ”Jaehyun-ssi, can I call you Hyung now?” Johnny called them his coochie eyes and Jaehyun couldn’t agree more, just the smallest sliver of a flash of them and he’d do anything his mark would ask him to. This wasn’t an easy thing to suddenly realize for Jaehyun, he was straight for fucks sake, he had never even looked at another man in that way, not even in porn!! And that’s saying something because he watches a LOT of porn. It was a sudden realization for both of them and it made living in the same room and being around each other 24/7 really hard. (pun INTENDED)
Mark tried to act like everything was normal and it even got to the point where he had convinced himself that he was just lonely because Johnny wasn’t in the same dorm as them. Jaehyun however started trying to spend more time with Mark to see if he really was into him or if it was the new even stricter rules because they debuted. Granted neither of them got far before Taeyong noticed the weird aura surrounding the two and locked them in the spare room and said they couldn’t come out until their shit was sorted out. And so they sat in the room, a good thirty or so minutes had passed before either said anything. Mark had spoken up first, quietly asking “Hyung, why are you like, obsessed with me now? Like I like the attention don't get me wrong Hyung, especially because it’s coming from you, but like… why?” as he finished, he looked up at Jaehyun, yes… With the coochie eyes. And Jaehyun broke, he completely shattered and started crying, from the stress of debut, his sexuality crisis, how he felt like he didn’t fit in, it all came crashing down when Mark looked at him. Seeing his Hyung breakdown in front of him, Mark cautiously scooted closer to him and engulfed him in a hug, holding his Hyung tightly while murmuring quiet little nothings.
After some time had passed, Jaehyun pulled mark close and gave him a tight squeeze while trying to calm himself down. A few moments had passed before he pulled away and quietly told mark how he was pretty sure he was in love with the younger while scooting farther in case the news was unappreciated. Both of them sat in science for a few moments before Mark got up, walked over to Jaehyun, and made himself comfortable in Jaehyuns lap. “Hyung look at me,” Mark started, gently grabbing Jaehyun’s face so he could look at the younger, “I’m in love with you Hyun Hyung, now can I kiss you, or are you gonna freak out on me?” He finished, only half-joking at the end. Jaehyun looked at Mark through tear-filled eyes and pulled Mark closer, giving him a small chaste kiss. When Jaehyun pulled away, Mark made a noise of protest but allowed him to pull away.
"Can you actually talk to me now Hyung, I may love you but I'm not a fan of being treated like shit because you can't figure out your feelings, okay?" Mark said "Mark," Jaehyun started, "I'm so sorry Mark, I didn't even realize I was being like that, that doesn't excuse it but I am sorry Mark. I'm not used to feeling this way, much less towards another male. I can't say I'm ready for anything more than where w sit right now but I am willing to try for you, Mark, I really do like you." He finishes, making sure to convey how he is feeling to the best of his abilities. "Thank you Hyung, I don't want much right now and I want to take this slow, but if you're sure, I do wanna try. Obviously, there are many risks and such but I think we can manage." Mark says with a smile on his face as he looks at Jaehyun. The two are content for the moment, and so they cuddle into each other more and give each other the comfort of one another for about half an hour until Jaehyun calls Taeyong and tells him that they're good now. Once Taeyong sets them free, they get something to eat and go to their room. They eat in comfortable silence while cuddled up next to each other.
A few months later
Johnny finally debuted with 127, Both Mark and Jaehyun were very happy with this news, and they made sure to pamper him. When they told Johnny they had started dating he was happy for them, he took them out for dinner and told them to be careful being idols and all but that he was really happy for the couple. Johnny then admitted he was dating Taeyong but that Taeong wasn't comfortable with a bunch of people knowing so to not say anything.
Later that week they sat down with the members of both Dream and 127 and told them that they were dating, everyone was very supportive and congratulated them, Jaemin and Jeno admitted they had been dating since before debut and Taeyong mentioned that he was seeing someone but that he wasn't comfortable saying who quite yet. They ordered a bunch of pizza and had a small celebration.
In the next year, they told their company and we were able to come out, they had an insane amount of support from the fans and they were beyond happy together. Eventually, Taeyong and Johnny had come out as dating. When they did, Yuta offhandaly mentioned thathe and Doyoung were dating as well.
Over the next few years, their relationship grows and they are beyond happy together.
