Work Text:
Virgil, believe it or not, used to be a fan of Valentine’s Day. He and Janus had spent it curled up in Janus’ room, in bed until well past noon (that part was for Virgil), eating expensive imaginary chocolates (that part was for Janus), and making out once they ate them all (that part was for both of them). Virgil had enjoyed a day of pampering his boyfriend, and Janus had enjoyed a day of being pampered. It was something they both actually looked forward to. They could fight The Man all they wanted, but they weren’t going to miss an excuse to lay in bed together all day.
That was before, though. Now Virgil was here.
He’d never spent a Valentine’s Day away from Janus before, but to be fair, he hadn’t really spent a ton of days away from Janus before, period. Even a year ago, he hadn’t planned on spending a Valentine’s Day away from Janus. He’d planned on celebrating his birthday a couple weeks ago, and then immediately jumping into their plans for Valentine’s Day. Janus had loved having two celebrations so close together.
But then, well… then everything. And now Virgil was here.
He’d told the other core sides he was planning on staying in here because Valentine’s Day was stupid and he refused to celebrate such a pathetic holiday. In reality, he felt more than a little pathetic himself, because his actual reason was a broken heart.
But now it was one in the afternoon, he’d just finished eating the lunch Patton had left outside his door, and he was curled up miserably under his covers.
“Well, if I knew you would be putting on such a pitiful display I would have brought my camera.”
Virgil yanked back the covers and glared up at Janus, leaning casually over against his dresser. “What are you doing here?” he snarled.
“What, am I not allowed to visit my darling on Valentine’s Day, of all days?”
“I am not your darling anymore. Get the fuck out of my room,” Virgil snapped, in order to hopefully distract both Janus and himself from the sudden ache in his chest.
“Oh, but why would I do that when everything I want is inside this room?” Janus asked, smirking at Virgil in the way they both knew would piss him off.
“I can kick you out if you don’t shut up,” Virgil said, crossing his arms.
“Ah, but you haven’t yet,” Janus said, grinning. “And what does that say, exactly?”
“That you decided to come into my room uninvited, ruin what little peace I had, and then refuse to leave?”
“Oh, I think it says something other than that,” Janus said, standing up and walking across the room, ending above Virgil, which Virgil was going to pretend wasn’t affecting him at all.
“What the hell do you want?” he snapped instead.
Janus pouted slightly, because he was a fucking tease and always had been, and said, “Just this once, Virgil? For old time’s sake?”
Virgil scowled. “No. I said I was done with you, I meant it. You don’t get to show up here because you’re—”
“Because I’m what?” Janus asked, cutting Virgil off before he could say Because you’re sad, because you miss me just as much as I miss you, because we both kind of wish we could take it all back and we both know it too.
“Because you’re such a fucking prick,” Virgil said instead, giving them both what they wanted in ignoring the elephant that had sat it’s ass down in the room.
“Oh, but I thought that was your favorite thing about me,” Janus said, leaning down towards Virgil and smirking too wide when it made Virgil’s breath hitch.
“It was,” Virgil managed. “Back when I still had a favorite thing about you.”
That succeeded in his goal, being that Janus’ eyes flashed with hurt. It was his own damn fault. He was the one that showed up here. He could have just let them both spend this day in misery like they were supposed to now.
The hurt was more short lived than he’d been aiming for, however, and it was too soon when Janus started smirking again.
“Are you sure about that?” he said, leaning closer until Virgil almost couldn’t see the look on his face that meant he was delighting in pissing him off— almost. Janus would never lean in quite that much, unless Virgil closed the gap first.
“It seems to me like you’ve still got some kind of favorite thing,” Janus crowed, taking immense pleasure in fluffing up his own feathers.
Virgil took a moment to acknowledge the fact that he knew how this ended. Janus was going to get what he wanted no matter what. Virgil was either going to give up and lean in, or he was going to stand his ground and Janus was going to leave with that infuriating smirk on his face. There was only one real way to win here.
Virgil growled low in the back of his throat and reached up to grab Janus by the shoulders. He flipped him over until he was laying on Virgil’s bed, and dropped on top of him before pressing down against his lips. He could still feel Janus’ smile, which needed to change immediately, so Virgil pushed his tongue against Janus’ lips until they parted and he could slip inside his mouth.
The moan Virgil was aiming for slipped out, so he moved on to pulling Janus’ cape off.
Janus hadn’t realized what exactly Virgil was doing yet, meaning he happily went along as Virgil pulled his shirt off too, and then moved to start towards the spots where his scales were particularly sensitive.
Janus pulled in a sharp breath as Virgil moved from exploring the inside of his mouth to kissing down the side of his neck, particularly the side his scales were on. They were lovely areas for causing more of the noises Virgil was after, and without his tongue taking up part of Janus’ mouth, they came through much more strongly.
Virgil moved on to his chest next, kissing both the snake side and the human side until Janus’ breathing was ragged and gasping.
Virgil moved back up to his neck a second later and started sucking a bruise into the skin on the human half, where it would be visible and everyone would know exactly what happened.
Finally, Virgil moved back up and kissed Janus long and full on the mouth, until he was running out of breath himself and finally had to pull back.
Janus didn’t move from his spot laying underneath him, rather just stared up at Virgil, panting slightly.
It was Virgil’s turn to smirk. “I win,” he said, leaning down and giving Janus one last kiss on the forehead, sweet and patronizing at the same time. “Happy Valentine’s Day, Janus.”
With that, Virgil kicked him out and back to the other side of the mindscape. He stood up and moved calmly to make his bed, starting to hum slightly.
Maybe Valentine’s Day still had its perks.
