Work Text:

their first valentines together will go down in history as beomgyu's favorite day ever.

it wasn't necessary a big event, but it was the sweetest thing that had ever happened in beomgyu's bland life. the two were only aged sixteen at the time, and taehyun had just asked him our two months ago. the amount of snow on the ground was absolutely beautiful and it was the perfect, crisp kind as well. they had both been caught up in their own events and only really texted for the past month, other than taehyun's birthday- beomgyu couldn't miss that for the world.

on this lovely saturday, beomgyu simply woke up to a text from taehyun saying "meet me at the park". when beomgyu responds asking if he had something special planned, the only response is a confused question mark. and of course, beomgyu isn't checking the date or counting down til his first valentine's day with a date, but maybe he kinda was. so, even with some disappointment, he gets dressed warmly and heads to the park.

the park looks stranded, which is expected considering the harsh weather. surprisingly enough, it was still snowing, the flakes falling in his hair making him look a little like a snow fairy. even though it looked stranded, beomgyu knew about a secret behind the stage there. since he performed so much with taehyun, he had to be back stage a lot and him and taehyun knew of a specific hidden room there. it was a rather small room, but they spent most of their time there, especially on days of their concerts and such.

at the spot, instead of seeing taehyun, he sees a box. part of him wonders if taehyun is just running late (of course, he wasn't. taehyun is never late to anything). when he determines that the box was for beomgyu, specifically because he got a text saying "yes, the box is for you. don't over complicate it", he opens it up. inside lies a heart shaped pillow and a letter.

"dear beomgyu,

let's take a trip down memory lane! test your taehyun/taegyu knowledge with this gift trivia- and you better get everything right hehe

let's start out easy. where was the place you took me for our first date? order my favorite drink to get your next clue!"

with a determined smile, beomgyu puts the letter back in the box and heads to his next destination.

this was definitely one of the easiest things ever, considering the memory is from mid december and beomgyu could never forget it. it was a spot that they had hung out a lot previously and that they still go hang out at- definitely not because their friend worked there and gave them discounts on the drinks. definitely not. why would you think that?

so he was off, shoving (carefully putting) his box in the passengers seat of his car.

the coffee shop was completely barren, at least it seemed from the lack of cars in the parking lot there. beomgyu would've thought it was closed if it weren't for the dusty, halfassed sign that said open in big letters on the door. when he walked in, soobin was there behind the counter.

"what would you like to order?" he says with a grin, already pulling out the cup and starting the drink.

"iced americano."

"wow, shocking, you know your best friend of fourteen years' favorite drink. how ever could you have figured that one out?" he says, sarcasm laced in every single word.

"so, he told you?"

"of course, he did? i literally have to give you your next clue. and he told me not to let you pay under any circumstances because he knew for a fact that you would and i know you're reaching for your wallet right now but don't."

when soobin turns around with the drink, beomgyu most certainly has pulled out the wallet. "literally just let me pay for it."

"it's fine, gyu. taehyun already paid for it, so you're good. enjoy your hunt thing," he says, handing over a box and the drink. "i think taehyun honestly just wanted you to bring him a drink."

beomgyu laughs, "of course, he does."

he takes a second to send a text to taehyun, letting him know the drink will be frozen by the time he gets to taehyun's. the response is just laughter, which makes beomgyu smile.

with that, he gets in his car and opens up his second present- which happened to be a box of chocolates. cute.

"dear beomgyu,

good job. i see you aren't an imposter who stole beomgyu's life in the past few days, glad to know. also, yes, i do want that iced americano so please bring it to me once you're done with the hunt.

next order of business! you took me on my first friend-date here, way before you admitted your feelings. i consider it a date for sure, but you keep insisting that it was just a friendly hangout. i remember it as my favorite day ever. where is it? yeonjun will be there- let him know the day we went there for the next clue."

beomgyu laughs at this- he can't help it.

this spot was definitely one of the best things that beomgyu had ever planned in his entire life- he impressed himself so much with it. he doesn't think that he's ever put more effort into anything than this date. so he goes to the spot, honestly regretting it, considering how cold it is.

his car is parked pretty far away, considering the date spot was pretty decently into a nearby forest they'd navigated together. for some unknown reason, past the hill and between a lot of trees, there was a clearing with nothing but a picnic bench in the middle. honestly, kudos to yeonjun for doing this for them.

"september thirteenth," beomgyu says the second he sees the older sitting on the bench with a box. "sorry about it- and you having to sit here."

"no, i'm totally over the fact that my two best friends went on a date on my birthday and had the time of their lives while i was getting over a break up," he says with an eye roll. beomgyu knows he's actually over it by now, but he still feels apologetic. "but for real, you're good- i haven't been here long."

"thank god- i wouldn't do this for anyone. it's way too cold out."

"you're lucky i love you two," yeonjun smiles fondly. "now take this damn box so that we can both get to warmth. well- not you- but me."

"i appreciate it, yj."

"anything for you, bg," he punches beomgyu's shoulder lightly and hands him the box. they walk out of the forest together, heading down to their cars.

when beomgyu reaches his car, he opens the new box. it has a small teddy bear in it, which beomgyu can't help but coo at.

"dear beomgyu,

you made it this far! two more to go. still feel bad for yeonjun, though- but in our defense, you did check with him that it was okay before taking me.

there's not gonna be anyone waiting at this one. it's the place that we always hung out as elementary children- you sang your first original song to me there and it was the place i fell in love with you. we kept wanting to put time capsules in this specific spot, but we could never wait long enough. here's the closest thing to a time capsule today."

beomgyu feels like taehyun might've made this entire quiz a little too easy, but carries on with that anyways. maybe it's just because he's a good boyfriend, but who knew?

the playground was long deserted, and was definitely untouched due to the lack of footprints in the snow. beomgyu climbed over the fence with ease, as he had every other time- just not with taehyun this time. he ran over to the swing sets, going to the one on the very far left and digging.

and surely enough, there was a box there.

making sure he didn't accidentally dig up some random person's stuff, he opened it to confirm it was a valentines gift. surely enough, the letter had "yes, beomgyu, this is for you" written on it, so he didn't need to look further until he got in his car. even if part of him was slightly worried that there was another beomgyu who was to receive a letter.

when he was finally in his car, he officially looks in the letter, past the reassurance and into the next hint.

"dear beomgyu,

well, you made it this far! i thought that at least one of these gifts should be personalized instead of cliche valentines things, so that's what i decided on.

your last question of the day! where was the place that we first me? god, it was so long ago. i cant believe i was just one year old when we first met. our parents talk about it so much it feels like i remember it for myself. anyways- your passcode is what ily stands for!"

he looks deeper in the box, under the letter, seeing a polaroid camera- one he'd been asking for for a while. film was also in there, making him not have to buy that before being able to use the camera. with a giant smile plastered all over his face, he drove off to his final destination.

an iced americano in hand, he knocks on taehyun's door.

"hey~ taehyun! i love you!"

"password unaccepted!"

"what?" beomgyu pouts, banging on the door. "you're so mean!"

he hears a giggle on the other side, and the door opens, "just kidding. thanks for the drink."

taehyun is ... dressed up. beomgyu looks like a trash bag in comparison to the image that is kang taehyun in a suit. that was his first observation, which made him extremely taken aback and possibly made him fall in love again. secondly, taehyun's hair was no longer the undyed, light brown, coffee colored hair he once had. suddenly it was a nice cherry red color that might've done some stuff to beomgyu's poor heart.

"you look..."

"amazing? i know," he laughs, hugging beomgyu. beomgyu doesn't have the mind to hug back because taehyun's cherry hair is right next to him and he may or not be losing his mind.

"you are literally the most handsome person i know," beomgyu whispers, not trusting himself to speak any louder.

"so i've heard."

beomgyu feels so underdressed in his grey winter vest, black turtleneck, and green cargo pants. his black combat boots, one of his nicest items, don't even compare to anything taehyun had on. he was genuinely standing next to an angel.

"are we just gonna stand in the doorway, or do you actually wanna warm up?"

"right," he nods, still completely out of it.

flower petals lead all the way to the dining table, which is nicely set with a white table cloth and candles all over. it was by far the most romantic moment of beomgyu's life. a plethora of foods were spread among the table, all of them beomgyu's favorites.

without thinking, beomgyu kisses taehyun with as much love and as much admiration as he possibly could. his hands are grabbing at taehyun's button down, pulling him closer and closer. taehyun wraps an arm around his waist and the other rests on beomgyu's cheek.

beomgyu only realizes that he's crying when he pulls away from taehyun, his best friend and the love of his life.

"i love you so much more than you know," beomgyu chokes out in tears, light crying turning into absolute sobs in only a moment.

"i love you too, gyu. i love you too."
