Work Text:

Midtown High School filed off the bus quickly, Mr. Harrington ushering them from behind. Ned was practically jumping up and down as he rushed out the doors. MJ was more calm, looking at Peter sympathetically. Peter was practically green. Flash had been tormenting him for weeks about this trip and it was finally here. They entered the building and everyone was in awe. Everyone except Peter, that is.

The lady working the front desk, Chelsea, smiled at Peter before distributing the passes to everyone but him. She could tell he desperately wanted her to hand him a badge of his own. Sadly, every SI employee knew that Peter was not allowed to have a badge because Friday could identify him, and because he would lose it easily.

“Hello, Midtown High! My name is Katie and I will be your tour guide today!” Katie grinned, shooting Peter a wink.

“Katie, it is so nice to see you! I didn’t know you worked here!” Mr. Harrington exclaimed.

“Hi Mr. Harrington! I’m actually one of the few junior interns here at SI. It’s so nice to see you again.”

“Kids, Katie was actually the valedictorian of Midtown High School about ten years ago and she was one of my first students!”

“Excuse me, Katie,” Abe raised his hand, “You said you were a junior intern here. How many levels of interns are there?”

“That is a great question!” Katie smiled, leading everyone to security. “There are five, sometimes six, levels of interns. Every intern starts out at the bottom, but there are sometimes exceptions. The first level of interns are called Incertas, or Incertos. This basically means that they are unpaid interns that are going through a rigorous amount of tests to see if they will be admitted as first year interns, or as we like to say, freshman interns. Once accepted past the Incertas stage, interns usually progress at a yearly rate. I’ve been here for four years, but only three past my Incerta stage which is why I’m considered a junior intern. Usually, once interns get to the end of their senior interning year, they are interviewed at HR and given an even more permanent and higher paying position.”

“What’s the sixth level?” Cindy asked.

“The sixth level is personal internships. We don’t have very many openings but those are worth even more than getting a higher paying position.” Katie explained.

“My friend Jenny was just hired as Pepper Potts’ personal intern and she is making so many more connections then she would be sitting in legal. PI’s are much more connected and are only paid slightly less than a permanent lab position. I’ll talk more about that later, though.

“This is the Avenger’s museum! Feel free to take a look around and ask me any questions. We’ll be in here for about 15 minutes. You’re allowed to take pictures but please refrain from touching the displays.”

The class dispersed around the museum, each heading toward their favorite hero. Peter hung behind to talk to Katie for a minute before joining Ned and MJ.

“Hiya, Pete! Is this your class?” Katie asked.

“Yeah, kinda crazy,” Peter laughed.

“Just a little, but they seem like a good group.”

“I just had a quick question. Do you think you could refrain from telling everyone I’m Tony’s PI? I just don’t want people trying to be my friend for the benefits of having a connection to Tony or the Avengers.”

“Yeah, of course, Peter. I’ll keep it on the down low.”

“Thanks,” Peter smiled. He headed over to where Ned and MJ were viewing the Spider-Man display.

“You’re scared of spiders,” MJ chuckled when she saw him.

“You try getting bit by a radioactive spider and almost dying and see how you feel about them after too.”

“Hey, Parker! How does it feel to finally have your lies exposed?” Flash smirked.

“What are you talking about, Eugene?” MJ glared, “Peter wasn’t lying.”

“Oh yeah, well then you clearly weren’t listening to Katie. It takes six years for people to become Personal Interns so there’s no way you could be Tony Stark's intern.”

Peter rolled his eyes. Of course that’s all Flash got from that. He was about to cut in and respond when he heard the padding of tiny feet down the corridor. It wasn’t much longer till the source of the noise was flinging herself at him.

“PETEYYYYY!” Morgan exclaimed, jumping into his now open arms.

“Mo, what are you doing down here? I thought Mom said you couldn’t come to the museum alone anymore?” Peter asked.

“Friday let me down, c-cause you’re here!”

“Ha, I should’ve known! You’re not an intern! You’re a babysitter!” Flash exclaimed triumphantly.

“Hey! Don’t be mean to my brother!” Morgan yelled.

“Oh, yeah? And who are you to stop me?” Flash laughed.

“I’m Morgan Stark and I’ll get my daddy to beat you up! He hates it when people are mean to Petey!”

“Mo, stop telling people you’re going to get dad to beat them up!”

“Fine! You can beat him up as Spidey, then!”

“What!” Flash exclaimed.

“Hahaha,” Peter laughed nervously. “What are you talking about, Mo? I’m not Spider-Man.”

“Yes you are!” She giggled. “Mommy and Daddy told me all about it when you were all dusty!”

“Fri, be a dear and get Tony down here.”

“Of course, mini-boss.”

By now the entire class was watching Peter and Morgan’s interaction. The doors behind them were dramatically thrown open by none other than Tony Stark himself.

“Daddy! Petey doesn’t believe that I know he’s Spider-Man!” Morgan shouted from Peter’s arms. Tony visibly winced.

“I know I was all dusty and stuff, but you do realize that some things are supposed to be a secret right?” Peter groaned.

“Sorry, bud. Pep and I told her it was a secret but I guess she didn’t realize that she couldn’t talk about it with you in public.”

“You’re literally the worst.” Peter’s class gasped at his words.

“You’ll forgive me.” Tony smirked. “Alright, Pete’s class! You have heard some classified information today. Need I remind you of the NDA’s you signed when you came in, and, what the heck, if you all keep this secret I’ll pay for your college.”

Peter could hear Betty threatening people so that they wouldn’t ruin this chance for her. Betty was also a scholarship student like Peter was before Tony started paying for his tuition at Midtown.

“Wait, so does this mean Peter’s actually Spider-Man?” Abe asked.

“Yeah, it does,” Peter sighed.

“Yo, Flash! I can’t believe you’ve been idolizing Peter this whole time!” Abe cackled.

“What just happened…” Mr. Harrington stared blankly ahead.

“Hey, teach! Since Pete lives here, and I’m his guardian, I’m just gonna take him now and you guys can continue your tour, okay?”

“I-I mean, I g-guess that’s o-okay.”

“Alright! See you kids at your next competition!” Tony waved, leading his two kids out the room.

“Why do my field trips always suck,” Peter groaned.
