When Hates Becomes Love (That's Where You'll Find Me)

Summary:

Sanemi thinks that, no, he never did hate Giyuu. But he does remember hating the rain... so why did he find comfort in rainy days?

it goes a little like:

"it all started on valentines..."

This work has noting to do with "Ohagi-Bastard" but it is set in the same universe :)

Work Text:

It was Valentines and the sun was hidden behind clouds today. It was expected to rain and Sanemi hated the rain. The way it made everything all squishy between his feet and the disgusting things that came with it. Disgusting things like bugs, and dirt, and it smells weird, and you get wet, and nobody ever pays attention. They all look out the window like they haven’t seen rain before.

Sanemi has seen rain before. It pitter-patters against his window and mocks him. There’s no way in hell he’s getting wet. He just showered. Screw his math class… even if it was his major and the only way he was gonna get that teaching degree.

He sat in the driver's seat, arms folded when he spotted movement beyond the wet glass. It was a guy™. His hair was dark and sopping wet and he was just… standing there. Out in the rain. Without an umbrella. With his arms extended. And he was spinning.

Laughter could be heard and though it was muffled it was by far the happiest thing he’s heard in a while. How could someone look so at peace in the rain? Now, Sanemi would consider himself a pretty level-headed person. Someone with a good moral compass. Well, that was thrown out the window because something in him decided that he’d exit the dry, warm, safety of his car to get a better view of the guy™.

The guy™ turned out to be Tomioka. When Sanemi got a good look at him is when he realized his mistake. Because the guy™ turned out to be Tomioka, Sanemi was in deep shit. Why? Because Sanemi had liked the guy™ since high school. Well, in high school he actually thought he hated him. Tomioka would never speak and whenever they’d made eye contact he’d look away quickly and act like they never even made eye contact in the first place.

It was as if he held himself like he was above everyone. He had a look in his eyes that looked endlessly bored and Sanemi wanted to know if he could make Tomioka look flustered or feverish in any way.

So, here he was… approaching the most gorgeous man on the planet. He stopped his spinning and looked at Sanemi as he approached. His eyes widened and he seemed to freeze in place.

“Shinazugawa…” his hair was plastered to his face.

“What are you doing out here in the rain?” Sanemi asked, gesturing wildly towards the falling droplets.

“I- uh… I like the rain,” He said, his hair still plastered against his face, “It feels good.”

Something else can feel good. Whispered the horny part of his brain. He shoved that thought into a corner and resumed his totally normal train of thought. “Well you’re going to catch a cold.” He huffed, and tore off his own jacket to wrap around Tomioka.

His face burned and he looked down to avoid eye contact. “Thank you… Shinazugawa.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Sanemi looked into the sky, feeling the rain on his face. “The rain…”

“What- what about it?”

“It’s… not that bad.”

“Oh… okay…”

Sanemi looked back down at Tomioka with a baffled expression. “Is that all?”

Tomioka looked taken aback. “Uh… what- what did you want me to say?”

“I dunno! Why are you responding so dryly?”

“I have no idea what you want me to say!”

“Literally anything besides the verbalization of ‘k’!”

“I don’t know how to function!”

“ME NEITHER. YOU’RE HOT AND I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO SAY.”

Tomioka flushed. “O-oh…”

Sanemi thought that now would be a good time to die. It was a known fact that he’d just say whatever popped into his brain because he trusted his instinct, but by god was he an idiot.

“Sorry- I never meant to say that out loud or… to you… at all…” He’s sure Tomioka would never talk to him again.

“It’s fine… I don’t mind at all…” He gave a soft smile.

“Okay well… I'm going to be late for class so… see ya…” Sanemi waved Tomioka off as he turned to walk away. He was stopped by a small tugging on his sleeve.

“Um, Shinazugawa… Do you want to have dinner? With me?” Tomioka asked in a small voice.

“Wha- like a date?” Sanemi asked, baffled.

Tomiokas face was a pretty shade of pink from the flush. “If… you want.”

Sanemi was probably grinning like an idiot. “Yeah, that sounds great.”

They discussed the time and place (6 at Tomiokas’ flat) then exchanged numbers. What they had saved as each other's contact name was honestly really embarrassing if the other ever found out, and for a while, they wouldn’t. What mattered now was that Sanemi had Giyuu, and they both found comfort in rainy days.
