It’s hard to believe that just a few months ago Katsuki’s life had looked completely different.
He’d still been with the Hunters, going after dragons and living off the spoils they got after stealing whatever hoard the beasts had left behind. All he had known was rage and violence. The entire group looked to him as their Prince who would soon lead them to their future victories with strength and courage. He’d been well regarded back then, his people happy he’d been meeting and even exceeding their ever-growing expectations.
Then he had met Eijirou. Had snuck away and gotten to know a nice dragon who suddenly had Katsuki questioning everything the Hunters had ever taught him. Then he’d disappeared, unable to be the Prince the Hunters wanted with the kind of knowledge he had. Eijirou and him had flown far away, visited many towns, and experienced both incredible victories and viscous failures alike.
They had also managed to pull together a rag-tag group of misfits like them who all loved each other in a way only they could understand.
Denki who always knew how to lighten any tension and remind them to laugh every once in a while. Mina who was so caring and understood each of them better than they understood themselves. Hanta who somehow always managed to get them all to relax and stay calm even when things were going to absolute shit. Kyouka who was about as rough as Katsuki but always managed to show her love through her actions with gifts and unasked help. Hitoshi who fought through his reservations and past traumas to let them all know just how much he cared.
Katsuki would never fully be able to get rid of his gruff and aggressive personality but he had found himself calming over time, becoming less and less angry and more… happy. Rather than struggling under his people’s expectations, Katsuki was living his life exactly how he wanted to, surrounded by a bunch of idiots who filled every second with noise and music and laughter.
He’d never say any of it out loud, but he really was glad he’d decided to leave and had managed to meet these dumbasses he cares about so damn much.
