Chapter Text

Taking a subtle look around the pub, she took a reluctant sip from her drink.

“Judging from your expression, I’d say you’re not truly enjoying your drink,” a soft voice made her look up to see Sirius lean against the bar beside her. “Can I buy you a drink that you might enjoy instead?"

She didn’t have to fake a charming smile as she turned to her companion. “I suppose that would be acceptable.”

Nodding, Sirius turned to the barkeeper. “A Ginger Ale and a halfway Brandy Alexander.”

As Sirius turned his back on the barkeeper to smile at her, her eyes widened as she caught sight of him properly in the dim light. Where normally he wore semi-fitted clothes, he was now wearing a long sleeved dark red shirt and black trousers that hugged him absolutely perfectly in every way to show off his slender but obviously fit body. Combined with the collar he always wore, the dark coat, his short dark hair and grey eyes, he looked ravish-able.

Swallowing, she noticed the barkeeper was sweeping his eyes over Sirius’ getup, too; eating him alive with his eyes while preparing their drinks and she managed to find her voice before she gave into the sudden desire to stab his eyes out. “What is halfway?”

“Half as much alcohol as usual, I wouldn’t want to be responsible for getting a pretty lady such as yourself smashed.”

“How thoughtful,” barely sparing the barkeeper a glance as a drink was slid in front of her, she couldn’t keep her eyes off of her friend as he paid for their drinks.

“Would you like to get a table further back? Get a little….privacy?”

“Lead the way.”

“It would be my honour,” he placed a hand on her lower back. “Don’t drink that under any circumstance.”

As they walked she noticed several people were staring at them as they passed and her stomach made a funny flip.

She’d always known Sirius was very pleasing to the eyes; but she had never really had trouble looking beneath the dashing looks and wasn’t quite sure why she seemed to be having so much trouble with it now.

Or perhaps, she correct herself as she glared at two leering girls, it wasn’t so much that he looked differently than normal than that she just wasn’t used to the desire to curse anyone for staring at the boy she considered one of her own.

He turned back to her with a familiar smile and her stomach resettled into place as she realised that despite the attire, he was still the completely oblivious and somewhat naive little brother she’d grown to love so dearly.

“So...what’s with the flirting?”

At the delighted look that crossed his expression, as if he hadn’t been entirely sure his blatant flirting was noticed, it occurred to her that to him it might not have been.

“Fab and James will be delighted as they’ve been practising pick-up lines on me for years. I wasn’t sure any of them work actually work, though.”

“It is that I am a taken woman, or I’d definitely be responsive to flattery,” she teased, biting back a laugh as his expression turned confused, further relaxing her.

“What flattery?”

“The pretty lady part?”

“How is that flirting? You are pretty,” he looked so utterly perplexed that she couldn’t help but laugh, feeling a tingle of light-headedness at his sincere words.

“Most guys only tell a girl she’s pretty or hot when they want something from her.”

“Why? Everyone likes a compliment, don’t they?” His expression turned thoughtful. “Except maybe Lily, she was fairly weird about James complimenting her for the longest of times.”

“Probably because she thought he was only complimenting her because he wanted something from her and only changed her mind when she realised he was sincere,” wetting her lips, she took a moment to figure out how to explain it to him. “If someone randomly gives compliments, most people will assume you are either flirting with them or want something from them.”

“That’s ridiculous, why wouldn’t I give someone a compliment if I like something about them or what they’re doing?”

Biting back a smile as that was the exact attitude why so many people thought he was a player, she shrugged. “I’m not going to complain if you keep doing so, especially since I know you. As a matter of fact, I hope you will never change as there aren’t enough men like you in the world.”

“People are weird,” grey eyes swept over her, narrowing momentarily before he knocked her purse from the table. “I’m so sorry.”

“I’ve got it,” waving him off, she leaned down to pick it up again, surprised to see a hand hold out a small potion bottle to her.

“Drink!” He hissed urgently and not questioning his motives, she did as told before straightening with her purse again.

“I’m so sorry about that,” Sirius gave her an apologetic smile, picking up his glass to take a sip but Alice noticed that although some liquid disappeared, he didn’t actually drink anything.

Remembering his orders and understanding there was no doubt a reason behind it he couldn’t share with her right now, she followed his example to Vanish some contents while pretending to take a large sip.

“It’s all right, so, who dressed you?”

“Gid did, is it bad? He said that it would be wise to go for a certain vibe just in case and that he knew what he was doing, but I’m not quite sure about it,” the uncertainty in his voice made her choke.

“Oh, he definitely accomplished the right vibe if he was going for what I think he was going for. He...uh….he did good. Just..uh...you might not want to let James or Fabian see you like this,” either one of them would skin Gideon alive for drawing extra attention to his looks like this. “Or Lily for that matter and maybe not Pandora either...or Lupin...maybe...don’t visit Hogwarts like this, either?”

“Okay...” the confused look he shot her was downright adorable and licking her lips once more, she decided to change the subject before she could give into the desire to hunt down and castrate the older Prewett twin herself.

“So, what are we dealing with?”

“Before I tell you anything, you should know that I’m not on a sanctioned mission, I tried, but AD denied my request.”

“Why?”

“He said there was not enough evidence and it was too risky. So if you want to back out, this would be the moment to do so.”

“You trust your information?”

“Yes.”

“All right. I assume Frank’s involved and that’s why he told me to meet him here?”

“I didn’t know you were coming, I would’ve told him no if I did.”

“I want to help,” she knew Sirius wouldn’t have pushed for this mission if he didn’t fully believe it was necessary. “What’s your information?”

“A friend of mine send word that people have been gathered like cattle and we’ve tracked the movement here.”

“So we’re not dealing with DE?”

“Unknown, he couldn’t confirm identities. He just managed to detect at least fifteen different magical signatures, but warned me there could be a lot more.”

“So proceed with caution.”

“Could be simple wannabes,” Sirius admitted, glancing around the pub and Alice noticed Frank and Robert settling at a table not far from them, her husband looking torn between relief and horror as Robert spoke to him. “Or they could be actual DE.”

“What are the stakes?”

“Over fifty people have disappeared over the last two days, could be more as my friend only got wind of what was happening a few days ago.”

His words made her swallow as she understood perfectly why he had pushed, the mere idea of so many innocents falling into the hands of Voldemort sympathizers was horrifying.

“Muggles?”

“Probably.”

“Back-up?”

“Those you can see and Gid, Vance, Edward and Fab are scouting the area.”

“And you have me,” a gruff murmur from right behind them startled her, though Sirius didn’t seem surprised and she managed not to glance in his direction as she placed her hand on Sirius’ to cover up her sudden movement.

“I did say those you can see,” Sirius said without facing him, turning his hand around to he could take her hand properly.

“Of course you noticed me,” the man huffed. “I’m not here officially, but I followed you.”

“I know, you should know that for a world class Auror, you truly suck at being inconspicuous. Even now you’ve already been recognised.”

“What? How?”

“You are a known face in the papers, people recognise you easily.”

“Blast it,” Moody cursed under his breath.

“I settled further back than planned so you could be briefed as well without jeopardising the rest of us,” taking another non-sip from his drink, Sirius lightly brushed his thumb over her hand. “In case you were thinking of stopping us.”

“Your information is usually solid and if there is a chance to save innocent lives, then it’s worth the risk.”

“Laugh,” squeezing her hand suddenly, Alice giggled as if he’d made a brilliant joke, making him beam in return. “You have a beautiful laugh, did you know that.”

Flushing despite herself, she smiled back flirtatiously as she played along with the game. “So do you. What about James and Lily?”

“James is on standby, but I’d rather not involve him since it’s been only days since our last mission. Lily’s unavailable and I asked Peter, but he said he already had orders.”

“James simply accepted being on standby?” Incredulous, she shot him a glance from underneath her lashes, trying to make it look like she was batting her eyes at him flirtatiously while trying not to wince at how out of practice she was; not that her companion would ever realise.

“He knows the twins, you and Frank are with me.”

The fond smile crossing over Sirius’ lips did nothing to stop the warm fluttering making itself known in her stomach, aware of just how much trust James was giving them by entrusting his brother’s safety to them. Pushing the feeling down as now was not the time to get flustered, she cleared her throat.

“Lupin?” It was unusual for all of the other Marauders to be otherwise occupied during missions and she vowed to keep an even closer eye on his back for James when her surrogate brother gave a tight shake of his head; making a mental note to ask him what that was about later.

“All right, I assume our targets are here?”

“The one I’ve been shadowing has been here all along and the second entered with Frank,” he reached out to brush a lock of hair behind her ears, amazing her with his uncharacteristic smooth flirting as he followed it up with a caress of her cheek. “This is the back-up plan, though, for if the scouts can’t find the exact location.”

“You planned to follow them in?”

“The plan was to surround them and take them down one by one before they could sound the alarm. The back-up plan was to join forces with Fabian, but then I realised you were there and had to deviate from the plan to prevent you from being in danger.”

“Danger how?” Shifting closer to keep up the pretence that he was thoroughly wooing her, she giggled as warm grey eyes lifted to her.

“All the missing people disappeared from this bar, wasn’t entirely sure what they used until you received your drink, though.”

“A sedative?”

“Of sorts,” nodding, he finished his drink. “Chelidonium Miniscula.”

Her stomach turned as she recognised the name and swallowing back a curse, she hid her reaction under the pretence of taking another sip. Chelidonium Miniscula was a powerful, slow working sedative that brought people into a fussy, excited haze. It didn’t leave the victim unconscious, but rather helpless and powerless as the giver was free to do whatever they wanted with their victim and they’d be unable to fight it or even realise what was happening as they were rather high.

“The barkeeper gave me my drink, but I’d already drunken two drinks before.....” suddenly realising what the potion he had given her under the table had been, she swallowed. “How did you know that potion was the right one?”

“I...suspicion, but I have eight different antidotes in my pocket as Garth said there was no signs of a struggle, no eye witnesses seeing anyone being taken against their will and neither of us picked up traces of magical residue. A sedative potion was a good bet so I made several antidotes to all the most likely sedatives they could use.”

“I was a target,” dread pooled into her stomach and terror washed over her. If Sirius hadn’t come prepared, she would have been helpless and suddenly the look of horror and relief she’d seen on Frank’s face made perfect sense.

“Technically, you are still a target, which brings me to the next thing. Originally, Fabian and I were supposed to try and have one of us become a target and be gathered up after supposedly falling victim to the potion. But considering that they had already marked you, I have to ask if you mind taking his place,” warm eyes met her own steadily. “I normally wouldn’t ask considering your condition and if it makes you uncomfortable, then we can have Moody turn around and whisker you away, making a scene to pretend he noticed you being dozed; presume it’s my doing since I’ve been coming onto you and save you while I proceed with the plan since they tried to drug me, too.”

It amazed her how smoothly Sirius had changed the plans and even thought up a back-up plan without endangering the mission and although she had no idea what he meant when referring to her supposed condition, she felt her hackles rise at the mere idea.

“If you even think for one moment that I will be leaving you alone for this, you’re sorely mistaken,” reaching out to caress his cheek; partly to keep up the flirtatious play and partly because the brief contact settled her, she smiled predatory. “I know you can take care of yourself, but even if I didn’t know at least three people who would skin me alive if I left you, I still have no intention of doing so.”

“Endangering you wasn’t a part of the plan for the same reason I didn’t involve Lily in this. I don’t know what to expect, but Garth suspected the worse.”

“Plans change all the time. I assume this Garth is your source?”

“Yes, he’s a good guy but in no position to do anything to help people himself, which is why he contacted me.”

“Right,” she swallowed her next question as she noticed Fabian enter the pub and move to the barkeeper to order a drink.

“Scouts failed to find the location,” Sirius murmured to her, alerting her that they’d given the sign with their movements. “Are you sure you want to do this?”

“Yes.”

“All right, then are you ready to set the trap in motion?”

“Yes,” picking up her purse, she let Sirius pull her with him towards the exit; feeling the barkeeper’s eyes on them from the corner of his eyes and she realised that there was one flaw in her friend’s plan.

Because if they were leaving the pub while supposedly having been outrageously flirting the entire time and by now under influence of the potion, it made no sense they weren’t all over each other so, hoping he’d not hex her for the unexpected action; she looped her fingers into his belt loops to drag him in for a kiss.

To her relief Sirius immediately caught on to her plan and didn’t hesitate to rest his hands on her waist to pull her close; nearly making her giggle with how odd it felt to be kissing someone other than Frank and although Sirius was a surprisingly good kisser, it felt much like what she thought kissing a sibling would be like.

Breaking the kiss after a few moments, she made sure to run a hand through the hair at the back of his neck before curling their fingers together suggestively and tugging him along out of the bar.

“Let’s go into the alleyway,” Sirius gave a breathy laugh as he followed her. “How likely is it that you are going to kill me?”

“Not likely, I initiated that kiss,” shooting her a confused look, something seemed to occur to him and he opened his mouth to answer before tensing and he leaned into her personal space.

Playing along, she slipped her fingers into his back pockets and pulled him close again as she picked up the sound of approaching footsteps; heart pounding in her chest.

Giving her a reassuring squeeze, Sirius pressed a kiss to the corner of her mouth. “Look hazy.”

Pulling away again, he laughed dazzlingly as he turned to face whoever had followed them and she saw it was the barkeeper and a man who she hadn’t seen at the bar.

“Do you mind, we’re kind of in the middle of something,” Sirius tightened his hold on her.

“You don’t want to be doing that here, mate,” the barkeeper laughed. “Come on, I got a place in the back where you can get some privacy, free of charge.”

Leaning into Sirius, she pretended to be wobbly as she wrapped her arms around him from behind and nuzzled his neck. “Let’s take it, baby.”

“Sounds good,” folding his free hand around her arm under the pretence of being wobbly himself, they followed the two to a back room and the hairs on her arms stood up immediately at the sinister feel of dark magic, unable to prevent a shiver.

“How much further is it?” She whined while subtly checking her wand was within easy reach in her sleeve.

“Just through here,” the barkeeper promised, opening a side door and stepping through it, she stumbled into Sirius as he abruptly froze, eyes wide and she gasped as she caught sight of the large magical formed cages all over the storage room; all of them filled with people.

“I...” stepping back, she tensed as the barkeeper closed and locked the door behind them, pulling out a wand.

“Not so fast you filthy bitch. Muggle filth like you should know their place,” he pulled his lips back in a snarl as he pointed it at her.

“You caught us some lookers now, Lee, they’ll get us more Galleons than our whole current catch combined will,” his companion wet his lips and Alice felt cold sweat run down her back at their implication. “Might even break these in myself before we sell them.”

“The only thing being broken here will be you,” shoving her instinctive fear down, she raised her own wand simultaneously with Sirius and both he and the barkeeper collapsed before they could so much as blink.

“The others just entered the building and are taking care of things on their end,” Sirius informed her as a sweep from his wand bound and gagged the two.

“How...”

“Headset,” he tapped something against his ear and cancelled the Disillusionment spell to reveal a device resting in his dark hair she immediately recognised as the equipment he and James had been playing around with for weeks and her eyes followed his hand as he tapped the small microphone aimed upwards twice.

“Two down, going further in,” his fingers tightened around his wand moments before she herself noticed a shadow coming their way and quietly stepped forward to take him out before he could notice them.

“You finally got them to work, then?” Helping him gag and bind their captive, they tossed him towards the other two for now.

“Sort of, we managed to get three to connect that work well enough, but only at short distance and it’s not too reliable within concrete walls,” he winced at something that came through the headset even as he took down a second guard before he even crossed the corner. “Plus there is a lot of weird background noise we’ve not been able to filter out and it’s difficult to understand Fab so I don’t know if they’ll truly be useful in practice between several people.”

“Fabian’s the one who has been telling you what to do while trying to flirt with me, hasn’t he?”

“Actually, that was Frank. Fabian was too busy laughing his arse off at all the things Frank was telling me to do to be of much use.”

Which also cleared something else up. “You were asking him if he was going to kill you for that kiss, weren’t you?”

“Yeah, but he was too busy laughing to answer me so I don’t think he minded too much. And besides, you’re right in that you were the one who kissed me so if anything, I should be the one offended,” but he didn’t look the least bit offended as he watched her take down a third guard before tensing. “We’ve got more incoming.”

Not a moment later three dozen wizards, half of them dressed in familiar black robes appeared and they didn’t have time to talk any more as spells flew everywhere.

The cages apparently were magic proof as a wayward spell fizzled out upon touching the golden bars, so they luckily didn’t have to focus on keeping the Muggles safe for now.

Fabian, Moody, Robert and Frank joined them within moments, shooting spells of their own to decapitate the Death Eaters and their buddies; teaming up so she found herself back to back with Moody.

“Where the bloody hell did all those bastards come from?” Robert blasted two of them back.

“Sirius did say there could be more than fifteen,” taking out four wannabes at the same time, Moody stepped forward to deflect a jet of blue light. “Con…”

“Yeah yeah, constant vigilance, I know,” grumbling, Alice knocked a Death Eater into the wall, satisfied he remained down and focused on the next. “Still, this are at least twice as many.”

“So are the hostages, but he implied both might be the case.”

Tossing a piece of rubbish into the path of a killing curse, Alice send it flying into her attacker’s face, knowing he was down for good as his head snapped back at impact but didn’t spare him a second glance as she shielded against another Death Eater coming from the side.

Swearing under her breath, she took down another two wannabes before Moody was suddenly blasted backwards, head knocking into one of the cages and he collapsed like a rag doll; only a familiar shield forming around her preventing her from suffering the same fate.

Slamming her current opponent into the Death Eater lifting his wand at her downed comrade, she hurried to his side to check his pulse while Sirius covered her; relieved to find it even and strong.

“Last man down,” was called out behind her moments later as a surge of magic blasted through the room, knocking the last two Death Eaters out and she rose to her feet to see the others come to her side.

“We should round them up and take them into custody before they regain consciousness,” Vance spoke up, moving to conjure ropes to bind the unconscious bodies with, Robert and Bones helping her while Sirius crouched down beside Moody’s unconscious form to take a look at his injuries.

Conjuring bandages, Sirius wrapped them around Moody’s head. “I healed his cracked skull, but he could do with a potion or two.”

“Is he secure enough to stay for the moment so we can take care of those Death Eaters first?” Vance asked.

“He’s stable.”

“Good, then Bones and I will be taking this lot into custody while you guys handle the Muggles,” straightening her shawl, Vance nodded to them before tightening her hold onto her tied prisoners and without another word both she and Bones Disapparated.

Rising to his feet again and taking off the headset, Sirius looked around the room and Fabian let out a muffled curse that had all of them immediately raise their wands.

“What the bloody hell are you wearing?!” Horrified, the redhead moved to Sirius’ side, making him blink down at himself confused while the others relaxed again. “Who did that to you?”

“Uh oh,” swallowing audibly, Gideon carefully stepped back, making Alice’ snort as she knew the younger Prewett clearly felt the same way she did.

“I...Gideon told me to wear this, I don’t….why are you looking at me like that?” Sirius shifted uncomfortable, trying to make himself look smaller as Fabian bristled.

“You’re fine, he’s just being a little overprotective,” laughing, Frank stepped away from Gideon as the other tried to duck behind him.

“I’m not overprot.…..Gideon!” Growling Fabian tore off his jacket and wrapped it around Sirius. “What the bloody hell were you thinking? He’s just a kid!”

“I am actually an adult, you know? Being nearly twenty and all?” But Sirius didn’t fight Fabian as he wrapped his coat around him and the sight of him covered up made Alice feel surprisingly more at ease.

Considering him for a moment, she remembered her initial desire and turned to send a strong stinging hex at Gideon’s bottom.

Yelping, he jumped away from her while rubbing his backside. “All right, all right, I’m sorry!”

“You better be glad that it was me who did that, because Fabian looks ready to throttle you and James would’ve flat out killed you.”

Rolling his eyes at their behaviour, Sirius took a deep breath and promptly froze, eyes widening.

“How...” without another word he turned on the spot and hurried down the storage room, glancing into the cages he passed as he seemed to be looking for something and they all hurried after him while Robert stayed with Moody.

“Sirius what….” ignoring them, he came to a stop in front of a cage in the further back, Vanishing the bars as he entered; weaving through the people shuffling around before abruptly disappearing from sight.

Cursing, Fabian pushed through the crowd to keep him in sight before freezing and alarmed, Alice forced her way through the crowd as well, eyes widening as she caught sight of her friend.

The dark-haired was casting a diagnostic charm over the last person she would have expected to see there.

“How did Lupin get here?”

“I don’t know,” moving closer in case his assistance was needed, Fabian checked Lupin over.

“He’s fine, just drugged. None of the hostages are hurt as far as I can detect,” Sirius answered as he pulled a potion out of his pocket and although Lupin wobbled dangerously, he didn’t fight being fed the potion.

“Wha?….Si….”

“Come on, you need to walk around to get the antidote circulating quicker,” bracing himself, Sirius pulled Lupin to his feet.

“What the hell is Lupin doing here?” Gideon exclaimed as they stepped out of the crowd.

“I don’t know, he was in the cage and is as drugged as the others,” she informed him.

“He was supposed to be on a mission so I don’t know how he got here,” glancing around while pulling his charge along in circles, Sirius focused on Frank. “How do you want to proceed? I don’t have enough antidote to treat them all.”

“I’ll alert the Aurors and tell them I’ve stumbled upon a situation and have them bring the antidote. This is way more than fifty people, though.”

“Must be close to a hundred,” Gideon agreed.

“I did say my source couldn’t be certain of the exact amounts, didn’t I?” Reaching out to steady Lupin as he stumbled, Sirius shifted and Fabian stepped closer to wrap an arm around the brunet as well. “Besides, I have reason to believe this is not the first group they’ve captured so we might want to question them to find out what happened to the rest.”

“He did mention something about bringing up a lot of Galleons,” Alice added.

“This is way bigger than we even thought,” running a hand through his hair, Frank looked around before glancing back at Lupin. “All right, Fabian, take him and Moody to St Mungo’s.”

“No. You should definitely take Moody, but I’ll take care of Remus myself,” Sirius’ signature shield appeared just in time to block a jet of green light coming out of nowhere as he pulled Lupin towards him; effectively freeing Fabian up so he could return fire against the half a dozen Death Eaters suddenly surrounding them.

Without a word they re-engaged and tag teaming with her husband, she took down two of them while attempting to shield the now vulnerable and drugged Muggles before they suddenly disappeared from sight.

“What the hell?” Frank’s curse was muffled as another group disappeared only moments after another cage went down and she saw Sirius pull Lupin to another cage from the corner of her eye; realising he was transporting the Muggles to safety while Fabian covered him.

“It’s fine, provide cover,” shifting to provide extra cover they managed to once again take most of their opponents out while their allies got the Muggles to safety when Sirius suddenly called out.

“Everyone out, now!”

Automatically turning to him, she was surprised to see Sirius had abandoned his task to push Lupin away from them.

“Sirius?!”

“Go Fabian! Get everyone out of here!” Sirius’ voice was alarmed as Lupin’s hands clawed into Sirius’ shoulders and he gasped in pain. “Rem, you have to try to fight it!”

His words made their attackers hesitate, freezing in their attack as bones snapped and Lupin screamed in pain.

“What….” horrified, she watched Lupin’s limbs crack, shifting into unnatural positions and her breathing stocked as hair began to cover the lengthening features of his face; teeth growing underneath an unearthly scream.

Whimpering in terror, their attackers Disapparated, abandoning their downed comrades without hesitation and the rest of them stumbled back in shock.

Another terrible ear splitting scream chilled her to her bones, but it made the others snap out of it as Frank and Gideon both knelt beside the downed forms of Moody and Robert; Disapparating with them and Alice focused to Disapparate herself when Fabian called out.

“Sirius!” While the others were high tailing it out of there, Fabian was running forward and Alice only barely managed to drag him back before he could come near that thing.

“Go!” Sirius cried out as the hands fisting into his shoulders lengthened into vicious claws and drew blood; Lupin almost entirely covered in hair now.

He screamed again before his eyes snapped open to reveal burning amber as the last bits of skin disappeared and the werewolf growled….and by Merlin, Lupin was a werewolf.

The werewolf’s burning amber eyes fixated on them as it fell to four paws; torn pieces of clothing sliding from the massive back as it straightened and Alice whimpered.

The penetrating glowing eyes froze her in place and she knew it was over, there was no way any of them was making it out of there alive as the wolf dashed forward.

But before it could come close, a large black dog rammed into its side, toppling it over and it attacked their saviour instead.

Massive jaws snapped at the dog, but the animal managed to evade them as it came to a stop before them; growling madly at the wolf.

The wolf growled, seemingly warning the dog off as the burning eyes remained focused on its prey, but as it moved forward again, the dog was once again in its way; growling warningly in return as it was clearly trying to protect them.

Attacking, the wolf tried to tear into the dog’s unprotected back, but it threw him off and attacked in turn to get it to back off, yelping as the wolf’s teeth found it’s front paw before throwing it off again and forcing it further back.

The animal’s desperate attempt of keeping that thing back finally snapped Alice out of her haze and she tugged on Fabian’s arm. “We need to go!”

“No...Sirius…..we need to….”

Immediately her eyes frantically searched for their friend, but there was no sign of him and she was relieved he had gotten away safety.

“He’s fine, he’s already gone,” she flinched as the dog managed to toss the wolf into a wall, immediately turning to them and barking urgently as if telling them to leave.

“I’m not leaving you!” Fabian cried out as the wolf tore into the dog’s exposed neck, tearing flesh and the dog yelped.

“Sirius, no!” The curse he send towards the wolf forced it away from the dog and Fabian dashed forward; Alice only barely managing to grab him as she realised he was too lost in a panic to understand their friend had already gotten to safety.

“Let me go, he will kill him! We gotta help….” she’d be damned if she was getting killed for a dog, regardless of how it had saved them and the rest of his words were cut off as she Apparated them to safety.
