Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Tokyo.

A city of wonders and many possibilities for people hoping to achieve anything, always busy and never stopping for anyone.

Fubuki had always dreamed of going to Tokyo since she was young. She had lived most of her life in a calm yet rather isolated country town and everything there was always the same. And now, at 23 years old, she had just finished unpacking in her new apartment, ready for a new life.

Her phone’s alarm rang, signaling that it was time for her to go and have the meeting at her new job. She rushed to change and, in a matter of minutes, she exited the apartment and hurried towards the bus station. She didn’t wait for long as a bus arrived as soon as she had and she jumped on board. A short 15 minutes ride later, she was standing in front of the Cover Corp building.

Cover Corp wasn’t just a normal company: everyone who had the chance to work there had to go through a harsh scrutiny to even get selected for an interview and, if they were lucky and talented enough to pass the interview, their paths were clear for success. Fubuki had managed to achieve all of that and now she only needed to have a meeting before her first day on the job.

The company worked with musicians famous all over the world, providing them managers, producers, song-writers, musicians… anything that they might need.

Fubuki walked into the building and arrived in front of the main counter, telling the man behind it that she was there for a meeting with the CEO. After a call was made, the girl got told to take the elevator and reach the 5th floor and knock at the room on her first right. The white-haired girl thanked the man and took the first empty elevator that she saw, quietly making her way up.

Soon, she reached the 5th floor and, stepping outside, she found the room of the CEO.

She knocked on the door and, after a couple of moments, the door opened and the recognizable face of the man who created the Cover Corporation stood in front of her. “Ah, Mrs. Shirakami! Pleasure to meet you in person.” He extended his hand to the girl.

“It’s my pleasure! Thank you once again for putting your trust in me for this job!” The fox girl spoke with a grin on her face.

The two talked only for about 5 minutes as the meeting itself was more of a formality. Fubuki already knew where she would work and what she was supposed to do as a producer and lyrics writer. By the time the chat was over, Fubuki had thanked the man and made her way out of the office.

‘I can’t believe I will work here… it feels like a drea-‘ Distracted by her own thoughts, the fox girl failed to notice where she was walking and accidentally ended up crashing against someone who was also walking by. Fubuki landed on the floor with an ‘oof!’ but luckily she wasn’t hurt or anything. “Ah- I’m sorry…!” the white-haired girl spoke, standing back up and offering a hand to the girl that she had bumped into. The stranger’s bag was on the floor and a tiny keychain had been flung out on the floor.

She grabbed her things and handed them to her with an apologetic look.

“It’s fine!” A girl with black hair and a long black tail and ears spoke, grabbing the hand that was offered to stand back up, as well as all of her items.

The girls were both standing up and Fubuki couldn’t help but stare at the amber eyes staring back at her. It took her around 8 seconds to realize that she had been standing there with an expression that was more akin to a fish than a person.

“Umh… sorry again, I was distracted.”

“It’s no big deal, really! Some days are like that.” The wolf-girl spoke with a reassuring tone and Fubuki felt slightly better about making her fall.

“C-can I offer you anything? A coffee maybe?” Fubuki proposed, wishing to apologize to the girl that had caught her attention in a proper manner. The wolf girl raised an eyebrow in surprise before giving a tiny smile “Well, as much as coffee sounds good I have a meeting right now so…” Hearing that, Fubuki could not hide her discontent.

“Oh, I see…”

“Thank you for the offer though! I appreciate it!” The girl politely bowed and walked away, taking the elevator and disappearing from Fubuki’s vision.

The fox girl stood there for a couple of seconds, unable to take her mind off of the girl that she had just met. ‘She said that she had a meeting, maybe she’s an employee here… I could get her a coffee the next time I see her! I wonder when that’s going to be though…’ She thought to herself, deciding to just head home and relax a bit before her job would officially start.

When she was back at her apartment, her mind kept wandering back to the wolf-girl and her sweetness. However, there was something off about her that Fubuki couldn’t pin point exactly.

“Maybe she had one of those unpleasant type of meetings…” Fubuki formulated her hypothesis based on simple logic and wished that the girl was doing fine. At the end of the day, Fubuki might probably not see her anytime soon or ever.

After an uneventful evening, Fubuki went to sleep as she couldn’t wait to start working on the next day… so much so that the excitement kept her awake up until 3 am. When she woke up the fox girl let out a loud yawn, but there was something wrong.

“Eh..? I didn’t hear my alarm?” She muttered in a sleepy voice, taking a look at her phone on the night stand next to her bed.

And in that moment, she realized that her alarm had rang exactly half an hour ago.

“OH CRAP!” Fubuki instantly got over her sleepiness as she rushed to prepare for her first day on the job. She skipped breakfast and simply rushed out of the door with clean clothes in a matter of 10 minutes as the bus she needed to take would be there soon.

She luckily managed to get onto the vehicle before it closed its doors and soon the girl could take a moment to breathe.

She did it, she would arrive at work on time and her first day was saved from total disaster. For the remaining time on the bus ride, the girl simply looked outside the windows as the nervousness and enthusiasm came rushing to her all at once.

When she arrived at the Cover Corp building, she instantly went to her studio where she would start working. It was weird seeing her name on a door: everyone on that floor had a private studio to work, but Fubuki wasn’t used to this and it felt like she was now on a different level. She smiled out of instinct and opened the door, being greeted with all the instruments and recording equipment that every musician could only dream of.

She looked to her right and saw the desk in front of her, equipped with a computer powerful enough to do many of her work-related tasks and she instantly took the seat.

Back when she passed the interview, she was told that she would receive requests from artists about songs that they were interested in making. She had already a small list of artists that had requested for her and, on her first day, she was supposed to look at the requests and reply.

She turned on the computer and was greeted with a bunch of e-mails from possible collaborators. With a crack of her knuckles, she began working.

A couple of hours in and someone knocked on her door. Fubuki raised an eyebrow before saying ‘come in’ and was surprised in seeing the CEO enter the room. “Mrs. Fubuki! I see you are already very busy, sorry for disturbing…”

“It’s perfectly fine sir! What can I do for you?” The fox girl asked with a smile.

“You see, yesterday someone had scheduled a meeting where we talked about an EP project. They wanted to ask for a lyrics writer but unfortunately the ones that she had talked with said that it was impossible for them… but then I said your name.” He explained, causing Fubuki to stare at him with a rather shocked expression.

“They wanted to meet you today, is that fine? This client is a big one and I think that if you were to make her work with you it would be amazing not only for the company, but for you as well.” Hearing that, Fubuki felt a sense of pride and duty strike her and she eagerly nodded.

“Leave it to me. Mr Tanigo!”

“Great!” at the positive answer, he stepped outside and gestured with his hand to someone. Soon enough, a familiar figure appeared in the doorstep and Fubuki’s mouth was left agape.

“Mrs. Fubuki, this is Ookami Mio. Mrs. Mio, this is Shirakami Fubuki! Now if you will excuse me…” He presented them before leaving and closing the door behind him, but the two couldn’t stop staring at one another.

“I-it’s you!” Fubuki had known Ookami Mio’s name for years: she was one of the most anonymous singers in the entirety of Japan and she had become incredibly successful for her voice range and amazing lyrics that she would come up with by herself. The fact that she was here to look for a lyric writer was a surprise, but the excitement of having such a famous person in front of her was making her not care about the details.

Until realization struck her.

“Oh my god I am so sorry for yesterday, I didn’t know-!”

“It’s fine! You don’t have to apologize more!” The two stood awkwardly for a moment, before Fubuki cleared her throat and extended a hand towards the girl.

“Pleasure to meet you, I have always loved your works.” Fubuki spoke, unable to hide her emotions at having the chance to meet such a talented artist. Mio reached with her hand and the two shook hands “Likewise, I have eyed your works on Youtube and I can’t deny that I really liked them.” Hearing such a compliment come from THE Ookami Mio was about to make Fubuki pass out.

“A-ah, thank you v-very much!”

When the two let go of the handshake, Fubuki invited the girl to sit down at the front of her desk. “So… what do you need?” She asked, seeing Mio sit and give a rather exhausted sigh.

“I have been wanting to release this EP for a while but… every time I try to write down I just- I can’t.” Mio explained and Fubuki found herself even more shocked. ‘She never had problems with writing lyrics before… I guess that’s a phase every artist hits.’ Fubuki thought.

“I can help you, it might not be easy but I can definitely give you my best!” Fubuki exclaimed and the wolf girl looked at her with a mixture of uncertainty and hesitation.

“I will make sure to put all your emotions into words… I promise.” The fox girl gave a reassuring smile and Mio, unable to remove her eyes from it, found herself grinning as well. “Alright… I guess I can’t say no to that enthusiasm.” She explained and Fubuki felt like she had reached heaven. “We can discuss more as we drink some coffee…”

“YES!”

Fubuki rushed out and, in a matter of minutes, she came back with two paper cups full of the warm beverage and handed one to the singer.

They started speaking about work, with Mio giving a general idea about what she wanted. “An EP themed around flowers?” The fox girl asked and the wolf girl nodded. “I wanted to release 3 songs with the title of 3 flowers: I have decided on 2 of those except the last one… it would be like a story, each flower representing a piece of it with its meaning.”

Fubuki thought for a moment: she had done some abstract things in the past but something on this level was a challenge.

“I can do it.” She gave a confident smile to the wolf girl who, in return, looked elated. “For real!?” Mio exclaimed and Fubuki nodded.

“Leave it to me!”
