Falling in love.
Those words seemed so foreign to Izuku Midoriya due to the bullying that occurred in his past. Back then, he could never think about even talking to a girl, and Yet, right now as he's lying in bed with the heat beating down on him, he only has one thought in his mind, and it wasn't about becoming the #1 Pro. In fact, it wasn't even hero-related. It was about a girl he had become acquainted with.
Her name? Kyouka Jirou.
Jirou had burrowed her way into Izuku's mind with little to no effort. Ever since her amazing performance at the Cultural Festival, Izuku couldn't get her beautiful voice out of his head. Even during the performance, he was caught off guard by the charm of her voice, so much so, that he almost dropped Aoyama while distracted.
Izuku didn't know how to describe it, but whenever he thought of her bright smile while she was singing, his brain would be filled to the brim with dopamine to the point he was sure his head would start popping out cotton candy if there was any more of it.
Even if he never fell for someone before? No one told him that it would be so hard to accept his feelings about the punk rock-loving girl.
This heat wasn't helping either.
For the past five days, most of Japan has been going through a rather brutal heatwave, and it has been utter torture for Izuku. His air conditioner has been on the fritz and his fan was in shambles after a minor accident. Izuku had punched it thinking it was a villain in his sleep.
Izuku had even tried sharing a room with some of his classmates, but that didn't work out for him. He had tried to stay in Bakugou's room, but he left during the first night after Bakugou screamed, "Let's see who can fall asleep faster, you damn nerd!" and was out cold five seconds after. After scrapping that idea, he tried sleeping in Iida's room but he didn't even get to sleep on time because Iida had to read the rules from a list that was at least twenty-four feet long.
At that point he was desperate so he decided to bunk with Mineta. While Mineta himself was pretty chill, the smell of the room was a different story, the smell could only be described as rotten squid. Izuku barely spent an hour there, but before he left, he gave the boy a bucket of cleaning supplies which he had to take from Iida before he was allowed to step into his room.
After dealing with that entire experience, Izuku decided to stay in his room but now he was regretting that decision, but then he remembered a crucial detail, one that could be the means to his salvation: A few days ago, Sero had gone out shopping for the class, and he made sure to spend a bit more cash to get 3 large tubs of ice cream for the entire class.
Izuku sprang up with a burst of energy that had seemingly come from out of nowhere and began to make his way downstairs to complete his quest for relief from this overwhelming heat and his intrusive thoughts of the purple-haired rocker.
'It's a good thing Sero got that ice cream. I'm glad I remembered it before the heatstroke got to me.' Izuku thought while walking into the common room. He couldn't wait for the cold relief that awaited him in the freezer.
Izuku entered the kitchen with a bright smile, only for it to fall the moment he opened the fridge.
The ice cream that Izuku had so desperately wanted to help cool him down had already been wiped clean. Izuku held back tears so as to not flood the entire common room, and to preserve what little hydration he had left in his body. Instead, Izuku shook his head while he wiped away a small teardrop. As Izuku closed the fridge, someone walked into the kitchen. The girl that hounded his thoughts night and day, Kyouka Jirou, had just entered the kitchen, an empty water bottle in her hand.
Izuku could feel his cheeks heat up as Kyouka started to make her way towards the sink, Izuku tried his hardest to keep his heart from sounding like a Travis Barker drum solo as he stared at the purple-haired girl that kept his mind running a mile a minute every night.
"Oh, hey Midoriya, what's up?" The purple-haired girl said once she noticed Izuku which caused the teen to noticeably freeze up before responding to the purple-haired girl.
"H-hi Jirou, I-I'm doing alright, h-how about you?" Izuku asked, while silently hoping that he didn't screw himself over by stuttering. Kyouka gave a small smile as she was about to answer, only for her to freeze and her face to be engulfed in a sea of red.
Now Izuku is a smart guy, but there were times he could be completely oblivious, and quite dumb indeed.
Unfortunately for him, this was one of those times.
Due to his rush to find the cooling relief of ice cream, Izuku had forgotten to put on a shirt. But in the heat, and at the prospect of relief, he didn't notice, although the cold air touching his chest when he opened the freezer should've been an obvious hint.
Izuku was confused as to why Kyouka looked like she had repeatedly slammed her face onto a lukewarm grill for about several seconds, until the blushing girl raised her finger and pointed towards the boy's chest, causing the green-haired teen to look down still confused, but that was cleared rather quickly once he saw that he was shirtless.
Izuku panicked as his hands quickly darted to cover his modesty while his face was brighter than a strawberry-shaped flashbang.
Kyouka wasn't doing any better, seeing how she had closed her eyes but she still couldn't get the image of his defined muscles with some sweat glistening in the light filtering through the kitchen windows.
"O-Oh I'm so sorry, Jirou! I completely forgot that I was shirtless!" Izuku said with a slight sign of sadness, and complete and utter embarrassment on his face.
He quickly ran into the common room and grabbed a blanket that they kept on the couch for chilly nights. Izuku quickly wrapped himself up in the blanket as he sheepishly made his way back to his original position.
"S-Sorry about that Jirou, I was kinda in a rush so I-" Izuku tried to explain to the purple-haired teen but he quickly stopped by Jirou's raised palm, who still had a deep blush on her face.
"N-No need to dwell on it," Jirou said, trying her hardest to get back her previous calm and cool demeanor, "So, what kind of rush were you in that made you forget to put on a shirt?" Jirou asked in a rather snarky voice trying to use sarcasm to cover her embarrassment. "Ah, I actually wanted some ice cream to help deal with the heat, but it turns out that there's none left," Izuku said, still embarrassed from the previous event that had conspired.
"That's a Bummer, dude- wait, THERE'S NO MORE ICE CREAM?" Jirou asked, her fake smug expression suddenly dropping, replaced by outrage, much to Izuku's confusion.
"Man, I was really looking forward to getting some ice cream to cool off." Jirou said with a small pout that caused Izuku's brain to short circuit. 'Cute,' the green-haired teen's hormone-addled brain thought once it had fully recovered.
"Damn, that's unfortunate... How about we go get some then?"
"Huh?"
Izuku couldn't comprehend the words that had left the purple-haired girl's mouth, he definitely heard her properly but for some reason, his mind simply refused to process it. In short, his brain became mush and his face gained a slight yet very noticeable blush, that he hoped would simply be passed off as a side effect of the heat.
"Am I speaking a different language? Let's get ice cream together!" Jirou said with a grin. Izuku fumbled over his words worse than a baby that just learned how to speak. Jirou stared at the boy as she waited for his reply to her suggestion, she always spoke her mind about things but she was never one to be assertive so his lack of response worried her a bit.
"On second thought, never mind, it was rude to ask something like that out of the blue. Sorry to bother you Midoriya." Jirou said, as she closed the bottle she brought with her and prepared to walk back to her room, feeling a bit disappointed. Before she could walk off Izuku quickly grabbed her hand and stared deep into her deep, dark onyx eyes, before answering.
"S-Sure let's go, I probably should go put on a shirt first though," Izuku said with a small smile as he rubbed the back of his head nervously.
Jirou let out a small breath of relief that she never realized she was holding in.
"Alright, see you in about 15 minutes?" Jirou asked as she saw that he was still holding her hand, 'His hands are so rough, yet his touch is so soft' Jirou thought as she regretfully pointed at her hand at their still locked hands.
Izuku quickly released her hand with a small blush on his face. "I-I'll see you in 15 minutes then, Jirou," Izuku said as he shyly walked towards the stairs with the blanket still draped around his shoulders, he gave Jirou a small wave before disappearing up the stairs. Jirou then grabbed her water bottle and made her way to the stairs leading to the girl's side of the dorm.
Jirou wondered what kind of clothing she should wear for her outing with Midoriya. Upon reaching her room, she wiped away some sweat from her brow as she opened her door with her free hand. Jirou entered the room and felt the cool comfort of her air conditioner filling the room.
Now, you may be wondering, 'If Jirou had an air-conditioned room, why was she going with Izuku?'
Well, Jirou isn't the type of person that would make impulsive decisions, yet that's exactly what happened. Jirou only wanted to fill her water bottle; she wouldn't have thought that she would get blindsided by her totally ripped pine tree of a classmate, but she wasn't complaining.
Jirou quickly realized that she only had about ten minutes left to get ready for her outing with Midoriya. She quickly went over to her closet and began to look for a set of clothes to wear, though during her search Jirou's mind began to wander, eventually causing her to stop and think for a second about this outing.
'I wonder what Midoriya is gonna wear.' Jirou thought as she grabbed her favorite 'Deep Dope' t-shirt along with some denim shorts, Jirou inspected her choice of clothing with a small smile planted on her face.
Before closing her closet door, something caught her eye.
It was the bright orange shirt with a large white 'A' on the front. It was the shirt she wore during her performance at the Cultural Festival.
Jirou stared at the shirt for a bit before looking back at the 'Deep Dope' shirt she had laid, suddenly the thought of wearing the shirt washed over her, and for some unknown reason, she gave in to the sudden desire and starred in the mirror with the bright orange shirt staring right back at her.
"Should I wear it? I mean it looks good but do I look good in it?" Jirou questioned as she spent the next 5 minutes twirling around in the shirt, looking at it from different angles, and even turning it into a crop top with a pair of scissors.
Jirou was ready to change the style yet again until it hit her. She's supposed to meet Midoriya in a few minutes and she still wasn't too sure what to wear.
After staring at herself in the mirror for another 30 seconds, she grabs her checkered purse along with her phone.
She walked over to the door and let out a small breath as she opened her door and made her way towards the common room with a straight face with a shit ton of anxiety behind it. As she got closer to the door that led out to the steps of the U.A dorm house, the feeling of dread slowly began to build up as she slowly reached for the doorknob and opened the door to find Izuku standing there on his phone with one of his 'Shirt' t-shirt and some black running shorts.
The other teen's head turned towards the sound of the door being opened as he put his phone into his pocket and looked at the rocker girl with a small smile. "Oh, you're ready?" Midoriya asked Jirou as her eyes scanned the boy's features until she snapped her attention to the teen in front of her.
"Yeah, let's get going."
The two teens began to make their way towards the main U.A gates with a single goal: to get some ice cream.
At least, that was the goal until they came by a teacher, and it wasn't any random teacher, but the man that made Midoriya's dream of becoming a hero come to life, All-Might.
"Ah, Young Midoriya and Young Jirou, how are you two?" the tall skinny blonde-haired man asked with a small smile. Midoriya was about to respond but it was at that moment he remembered a crucial detail, he didn't get a chance to talk to Aizawa about him and Jirou's little plan to get some ice cream.
In light of the recent attacks on the hero class, the teachers at U.A decided to set up a sign-out system. Whenever a student wants to go off campus for any reason, they must first inform their homeroom teacher or they must inform their classmates so the teacher can also be informed. Midoriya had planned to talk to Aizawa about it but he was sidetracked by Bakugou challenging him to a staring contest in the middle of the hallway, so now Midoirya was worrying about the actions his teacher may take once he learns that they were about to leave without any permission or notice.
"O-Oh sorry All-Might, I meant to talk to Aizawa about me and Jirou leaving the school ground to get some ice cream. I'm so sorry!" Izuku said as he began to bow repeatedly at ninety degrees. If Iida had been around, he'd be proud of Izuku. The man stayed silent while his successor bowed until he chopped the teen's head causing a small bump to form on his head while startling Jirou.
"Young Midoriya, I've told you thousands of times already. There is no need to apologize so much for such a simple thing." All-Might said while his successor rubbed the part of his head that was chopped earlier. "Though you definitely should be more responsible when it comes to things like this. But since you're just getting ice cream, I don't see the big deal so I'll give you both 2 hours to get your ice cream and anything else you might want." The man said, patting his students on their shoulders and sporting a small grin.
"Wow, thanks All-Might sensei, but what about Aizawa-sensei?" Jirou asked, reminding the green-haired teen that she was indeed still there. "Oh, no need to worry. I'll relay the information to him once I get inside. Enjoy your time, you two." All Might said as he continued his walk to the teacher's dorm.
Izuku let out a sigh of relief, he was glad that he didn't have to give up the chance to hang out with Jirou.
Speaking of Jirou, Izuku realized that he never even tried to make small talk with the girl and panic was slowly setting in as he tried his hardest to think of the slightest topic to bring up in order to spark a conversation with his purple-haired crush.
"All Might likes you a lot huh?" The question seemingly came from out of nowhere but it causes Izuku to let out a sigh of relief at not having to scrounge for a topic. "Ah, I guess you could say that. I'm sure he would've done that for any other student." Izuku said without making eye contact with her. He quickly realized that he couldn't think of anything else to say, until he noticed the shirt Jirou was wearing.
It was the shirt from the time she along with a few other classmates performed during the Cultural Festival.
Izuku stared at the shirt in awe, never thinking that he could ever get the chance to see Jirou in the same outfit that he fell for her in and it made him kind of happy while giving him another topic to talk about.
"I really liked your performance during the Cultural Festival." Izuku blurted out suddenly, causing the girl beside him to jump. Izuku tried his best to keep his cool but it clearly wasn't working since he was blushing like crazy. Jirou tried her hardest to not to freak out at Midoriya's statement but it was hard not to since he was blushing, which made her blush while frying her brain for a few seconds.
"O-Oh thanks, It was fun. I really enjoyed it." Jirou said with a small smile and her jacks shyly coiling up. They fell into a comfortable silence.
The time for small talk had come to an end as the two had reached their destination, the ice cream store. Jirou was glad that they got there because she was not ready for the potential questions that Midoriya would've asked about her performance or her anxiety that she had before performing but that wasn't important right now.
Jirou and Midoriya got a place in the line, which fortunately wasn't too long, which was kind of surprising, but it made it easier for the two to get their creamy, icy relief. Jirou could feel the heat bearing down on her and the line was barely moving due to some unruly customers. Jirou felt like it was only right to lighten the mood with a joke so she turned to tell Midoriya a joke but she was left speechless since the green-haired teen had part of his shirt up wiping away some sweat off his forehead.
Now Jirou never really believed in luck but to get her eyes blessed with the sight of Midoriya's toned stomach twice in one day has to be some incredible stroke of luck, or some blessing that she wasn't aware that she was receiving, but since she really didn't want to explain to Midoriya why she was staring at his stomach she looked away with a blush on her face.
The teens began to move along rather quickly until Izuku and Jirou were now next in line behind a few kids with their parents. Jirou was taking a peek at the menu and Izuku couldn't feel more awkward, they were both just standing there in silence, or rather, they would be, if Jirou wasn't humming to herself while skimming over the menu. The simple tone she was humming pushed the deafening silence away, and strangely enough, a wave of relief washed over Izuku.
Izuku felt his chest tighten as reality finally hit him. He was on a date with his crush, the person that made his heart skip a beat and kept him awake at night. But a grim reminder snuck up on his mind, Jirou never said this was a date, yet here he was completely deluding himself that she would even think of asking him on a date.
Izuku must have set off some kind of self-doubt alarm Jirou had in her head because she took her attention away from the menu and brought it towards Izuku with her head having a cute little tilt that made Izuku's heart stop for a second.
"So what flavor are ya getting, Pine Tree?" Jirou asked, her jacks unconsciously tapping together.
Izuku obviously found it cute but he couldn't just say that so he just promptly told her what flavor he wanted.
"Well I think I might get the best flavor of ice cream, which is cookies and cream." Izuku said with a small smile, which Jirou responded back to with a smile of her own.
He couldn't help but smile back, how could he not? She was the literal girl of his dreams yet he couldn't even muster an ounce of courage to even ask her out on a date or even tell her how he feels about her. Hell, she was the one that though about going out for ice cream, how could he be more stupid?
The line moved along while Izuku's thoughts chugged along. 'What if she's just asked me to come along because she felt bad? I'm sure she's just being nice, maybe I should just give up.' Izuku thought as they finally reached the front of the line and Jirou began to take a final glance at the menu just to be sure that she knew the flavor she wanted. She looked so happy that Izuku's heart rate sped up ten-fold.
Jirou nudged Izuku to place his order since his absent mindedness was holding up the line, Izuku quickly realized and ordered his own cone. Jirou noticed that Izuku's face lost the flare it had earlier and instead he looked more worried than anything. She wanted to ask him about it but she couldn't bring herself to ask even though it was rather concerning.
The two teens got their ice cream and walked over to a nearby bench under a tree to sit and enjoy their ice cream. Jirou looked at Midoriya as he slowly picked at his ice cream with a conflicted look on his face as his ice cream began to melt all over his hand yet he didn’t even blink or acknowledge the cream running down his hand.
“Hey Green, you alright?” Jirou asked, handing him some napkins that she got while he was dazed. He accepted the napkins with a small smile as he wiped off the melted ice cream of his hand. “Thanks Jirou, I’m just thinking about some stuff. This ice cream is really nice though.” Izuku said as he tried to shift Jirou’s attention away from his current mental state.
Izuku hoped that would’ve at least thrown her off but he could tell that she wasn’t fooled in the slightest, Jirou wasn’t convinced at all in fact she wanted him to give her a straight answer but she quickly realized that it would be very rude to force him to answer her. “Alright Green, let’s head back.” Jirou said with a small smile that even Izuku would know it was fake, he nodded his head and the two made their way back to U.A.
Izuku felt like an absolute idiot, he laid face first on his bed in his oven of a room. His little outing with Jirou ended in diaster all because his idiotic thoughts decided to pop up and made his mind go blank. Izuku sighed as he grabbed his phone and stared at his simple All Might background, he let out a small sigh as he got out of his bed and walked in and out his dorm.
Izuku needed to clear his head and he had the best place to do so, he started making his way towards the door that led to the roof. Izuku opened the door and let cool evening air hit his face, Izuku sighed at the beautiful sunset. Izuku always felt more calm whenever he looked at the sunset yet at that moment he couldn’t help but think about a certain purple haired girl.
‘I think I may have blown the small chance I had with her.’ Izuku thought as he walked further towards the railing and looked over the forest below. He always enjoyed quiet moments like this because he could actually calm down and think but even now he can’t keep his thoughts straight. He scratched his messy green hair in frustration as he leaned on the rail with a large sigh.
Before he could sulk even further, the faint sound of the door being closed caught his ears. He slowly turned to see the same purple girl that kept him tossing and turning at night. She had a small smile as she slowly approached the space beside him.
“Mind if I join ya Green?” Jirou asked as she planted herself next to him before he could answer her. The two teens quietly stared at the setting sun without any eye contact.
“Calming, isn’t it?” Izuku asked, breaking the deafening silence between the two. Jirou felt awkward as the silence came right back, Jirou tried to think of something to say but not a single word was able to be formed in her throat.
Izuku started to chuckle which completely threw Jirou off. She stared at the green haired teen beside her without saying a word. “You know I was never good with talking to people, especially g-girls. I-I always froze up and made myself look like a fool.”
Jirou stayed quiet as she let Izuku continue speaking. “T-That happened today and I’m sorry for wasting your time.” Izuku said with a sad smile plastered on his face, Jirou was shocked to say the least. She had no idea that Midoriya of all people was feeling like that, she wanted to tell him that she had a great time but the words couldn’t make their way from her mouth.
“Don’t be sorry Green. I had a great time, you’re fun to be around plus you’re one of the few people I don’t mind hanging out with.” Jirou said without looking at the teen.
“I don’t know why but it feels like I can open up to you and you’ll just sit there and listen.” Jirou said as she turned to see the green haired teen staring at her with tears slowing building up in his eyes.
Jirou started to panic once she realized she must’ve said something insulting but she noticed a small smile that slowly crept onto his face.
“I-It’s the first time a-anyone has told me that.” Izuku said as he wiped away the tears that started to run down his face, Jirou felt her heart flutter as Izuku took a step closer to her face with a determined look etched onto his face with small tears still in his eyes.
“J-Jirou, I need to tell you something t-that has been on my mind f-for some time now.” Izuku said with a slight blush on his face. Jirou started to feel her own cheeks heat up as Izuku took a few deep breaths as he looked Jirou right in her onyx eyes. “O-Oh, w-what do you need to tell me?” Jirou asked with a hint of embarrassment in her voice.
“Y-You’re amazing, Jirou.” This caught Jirou off guard but she let him continue as she wallowed in her own pool of embarrassment. “You have a great v-voice, a-a fun p-personality, and y-you don’t take anyone’s crap.” Now Jirou’s face was fully engulfed in red as she turned her face away from the green teen.
“W-What a-are you t-trying to say, Green?” Jirou asked as she tried to keep her obvious blushing from being noticed. Izuku straighten his back and took a deep breath and started talking again, “I-I’m t-trying to say that you’re awesome, and, I-I l-like y-you.” Izuku said as Jirou felt her heart skip a beat and more heat rise to her face.
“Y-you like me?” Jirou asked as she bashfully played with one of her jacks while looking at the teen in front of her. “Y-Yeah. F-For a while actually.” Izuku answered as he rubbed the back of his neck, Izuku was beyond nervous and it was showing.
Jirou tried to calm down her heart but it was pointless. “F-For h-how long?” Jirou asked, now looking at the teen in front of her. Izuku answered fairly quickly as avoided eye contact with the purple haired girl.
“S-Since your performance at the Cultural Festival.”
“R-Really?” Jirou asked as he gave her a quick nod, Jirou was a little shocked at his quick answer. She was also shocked because that was around the same time she started to have a thing for him. The next few seconds happened on impulse which Kyouka isn’t really known for but she can just blame that on the heat.
“T-Then I can do this.”
Kyouka moved closer to Izuku and cupped his face and moved her own closer until both of their lips connected and that’s when the fireworks went off.
Izuku had not experienced kissing anyone nor did Kyouka but that didn’t stop them from enjoying the bliss that was currently washing over them. The kiss caught Izuku off guard at first but he found himself bringing his hand to her cheek as he melted into the kiss.
Though it only lasted a couple of seconds, this moment lasted forever in the minds of the two teens. Soon they separated with loads of serotonin flowing through their minds, Izuku caressed Kyouka’s cheek and rested his head against her forehead both of them had bright red blushes across their faces. The two stayed like that in complete silence until Izuku broke the soft silence.
“W-Well, that was something huh?” Izuku asked as he slowly recovered from the initial shock of the kiss. Kyouka slowly nodded in agreement without making any eye contact with Izuku, she was beyond embarrassed but she tried to not focus on that as she bashfully moved her arms around the greenette and brought herself in for a hug with Izuku.
“I-I really l-like you, M-Midoriya.” She said as Izuku slowly wrapped his arms around Kyouka’s slender figure while resting his face into the crook of her neck. “S-So are we d-dating?” Izuku asked, still hugging Kyouka, he could tell that she was nervous because he was as well.
Kyouka pressed her face against Izuku’s chest and spoke but it came out muffled. Izuku looked down at the purple haired girl with a chuckle as she looked up at him with a bright red blush as her sharp onyx eyes stared at him. Izuku patted her head as she moved a bit from his chest to let out a mumbled response.
“I-If that’s o-okay with you Green?” She said as she slightly moved out of the hug and grabbed Izuku’s hands, running her fingers over his scarred hands with her gentle touch causing Izuku to smile.
“Y-yeah.” he smiled.
'I guess heatwaves aren't so bad after all.'
