Work Text:
Olivia walks into his apartment, a puzzled look on her face. “What was so important it couldn’t wait until morning?” she asks frustratedly.
His face immediately twists in confusion. “What the hell are you talking about? You texted me…” The realization that neither of them texted hits them both at the same time, their confused expressions morphing into one of alertness, their senses instinctively dialing up to eleven. They both unclip their holsters at the same time when a voice behind them sounds.
“Oh for goodness sake, would you two relax? God, you’re both such cops…”
Olivia whips around in disbelief while Elliot just drops his head into his hands, laughing as he recognizes the voice. “All hail the Queen of Dramatic Entrances! Every. Damn. Time, Alex!” he laughs out. He sits up and turns to see their old friend standing by the patio door, a coy grin on her face.
“What? Did you think only bad guys can play tricks like that? You have friends with fancy tech, too, ya know." She walks in and drops her jacket on the counter, moving to raid his cabinets, knowing full well she was welcome. While he does make a terrible bachelor, one of the benefits of single Elliot (not that she expects that to last long, but Liv won't change this) is that he treats his place like a squad room. “And you should really lock that door,” she calls over her shoulder.
“I locked the gate!” he says, still unable to wipe the massive smile off his face.
“It’s not covered in barbed wire, Elliot, so that won’t do it,” she says, deciding on Cheez-Its for her snack. “I know I’m ten years younger than you guys, but have you already forgotten what it was like to be able to hop a fence?” She grins.
“Okay, wow!” Olivia huffs out, finally regaining her ability to speak. “You’re not that much younger, first of all. We’re not dead. Second of all…” Liv looks around as if answers will appear on the wall. “...What the hell, why the hell, what…” She throws her hands in the air and looks back at her for an explanation. She sighs. “Please, just don’t tell me you have any outstanding warrants here…” she whines.
Elliot sits up straight. “Wait, what?”
Alex shrugs and pops a handful of Cheez-Its into her mouth. “Fine, I won’t tell you.” Liv groans and drags both hands down her face. Elliot sits there, puzzled.
“Wha– I swear I wasn’t gone long enough for you to become a criminal . What the hell did I miss?!” he asks, looking between both women. Alex grins.
“Oh, I’m runnin’ a whole operation, El,” she says, technically not joking. He looks to Liv who just shakes her head.
“Don’t ask…” Elliot seems to accept that response and Alex laughs quietly. If it weren't them, he would be trusting to a fault.
“So.” Alex places both hands on the counter and leans forward. “I need your help.”
Elliot reaches forward and grabs himself a handful of crackers. “You don’t need us as bodyguards again, do you? ‘Cause I think that’s a little above the Captain’s pay grade now.” He grins proudly.
"Yeah, okay, Grandpa," Liv fires back his own news.
“Wow, good for both of you.” Elliot beams and Liv waves a hand dismissively. “And no. I have my own bodyguards now.”
Elliot barks out a laugh and Liv continues to be exasperated. This’ll be fun.
