Work Text:
It was a warm morning in Las Vistas. The gang was tired and all sweaty, really in need for a break. They had been walking for days, and they all thought that they deserved a day to just relax, though it was only a week left until Scarlemagne's coronation.
"Hey, guys! I think I know a place where we can go, it is hidden so there is not a big chance that any mute will disturb us." Benson said and everyone turned around, very interested in whatever Benson had to offer. "A beach. We can go for a swim and get back some energy and just have fun!"
Kipo beamed at Benson, hugging him utnil he lost all of the air and needed to take a step back.
"Are you really sure that nno mutes will find us there?" Wolf asked and Benson nodded, starting to show the way to that secret beach.
It wasn't actually a real beach with real sand, but he liked to call it that since it was the most close to a beach it could get, and of all these years he had lived on the surface, he had never seen a beach with sand. Especially not a mute-free beach.
So this was the only option the group had, but they didn't complain.
It only took an hour or two to get there. It was a small lake hidden behind a lot o trees and old ruins, it looked to have been a big pool for an old hotel for two hundred years ago.
"There are bathing suits in this building." Benson said, pointing to the biggest of the buildings surrounding the gang.
"Let's go!" Kipo cheered, raising her arms to the sky as she ran into the building to get her bathing suit.
Wolf walked in last, arms crossed as her eyes didn't leave the ground. She was still unsure of doing things for fun and getting dressed in a bathing suit was not something she'd call "fun". She'd rather just watch her friends from the ruins or something. It felt a bit childish to swim and have fun and she refuse to be seen as childish.
Kipo chose a dark pink bathing suit with her favorite planet on it, saturnus. She loved the ring of dust and stones that flew around it. Benson chose blue and green trunks.
"Wolf? Aren't you gonna change clothes?" Kipo asked, seeing Wolf sitting on the ground with both legs and arms crossed, looking away from Kipo and Benson with forrowed eyebrows.
"I... I don't know if I really wanna swim..." Wolf mumbled, looking down to the ground as she went quiet.
"Why not? It's fun!" Kipo tried but Wolf shoke her head.
"It's stupid, having fun is stupid. I'd rather just watch." she muttered and stood up, standing up from the ground as she walked out of the building.
"But Wolf! You should at least change clothes! It's dying hot outside." Kipo shouted and then got Wolf back inside ti get some new clothes for the time the gang was going to stay by the pool.
Wolf got green shorts and a black crop top so that she wouldn't get too warm, it was basically a bikini. Kipo, Benson and Dave all ran down the ruins to get in the water. They splashed the cold water on each other and giggled loudly. Would winced, they were too loud! Any mute could hear them. They were ringing the dinnerbell!
Wolf sat down in the ground, crosslegged as she watched her friends having fun. Even Mandu joined them, swimming around with her small legs as she squealed every now and then. Wolf sighed. She kinda wished that she could join them, but having fun like that was stupid and childish, and she had already said no anyway. Kipo asked Wolf if she wanted to join them many times, but Wolf always answered no, so she stopped asking and focused on just having fun.
But after around half an hour, Benson looked over at Wolf who sat with her back bent as she looked down to the ground, resting her head in her arms. She looked like she was melting, and Benson could clearly see that the younger child was sweating a bit. She needed to get in the water, or else she would be too tired and warm to continue going.
"Wait a minute." Benson said, getting up from the water, walking up to Wolf.
She looked up at him with a confused face, wondering why he didn't continue swimming. He put a cold and wet hand on her shoulder. It felt good to get a bit cooler after sitting in the sun for so long, Wolf thought.
"Are you sure that you don't want to get in with us? You seem like you're really warm." Benson said and Wolf again answered that she was fine and that she didn't need to get in the water, but Benson didn't believe her. "Please? It's not as fun without you!" He tried again.
"I'm not warm, I don't need to." Wolf answered, refusing to give in as she crossed her arms firmly and looked away from Benson, down to her feet.
Benson sighed and stood up to go back to Kipo when he suddenly got an idea. Kipo was looking at him, so he put a finger to his lips, silently telling her that she needed to be quiet and wait. She nodded with a grin and Benson looked back down at Wolf.
"Well then I'm not going to swim. I'm gonna grab my clothes." Benson lied and walked behind Wolf as she just shrugged, looking at Kipo who was acting all innocent, swimming around to not be suspicious.
Benson placed himself behind Wolf. Her wolfpelt laid beside her and she didn't know that he was behind her, brilliant. He quickly bent down and in a swift motion, he wrapped his arms around Wolf's waist and picked her up as the child yelped loudly and surprised, kicking her legs as he walked back down with her in the water.
"Put me down you jerk!" Wolf screamed angrily but Benson didn't care, he walked down into the water and set Wolf down in it.
"Into the water with you." Benson said, keeping one arm around Wolf's waist so that the child wouldn't be able to go back up and away from the water.
"No! Let me go or I'll beat you up!" Wolf said angrily, but Benson just ignored her, a smirk showing up on his face.
"Alright, alright... I'll let you go... Further into the water."
Wolf growled angrily, barring her teeth as she was pushed until the water met her hips.
"Now I've been in the water, let me go!" she said, very bothered by Benson who was still keeping his arms around her waist.
"No. I'll let you fly." Benson said and Wolf was evry confused for a second before she understood what he meant and yelped as the odler boy quickly picked her up and held her in his arms.
He started counting.
One
Two
Three!
Benson threw Wolf a good few meters into the water, the child yelping as she got under water. She stood up, the water now up to her shoulders as she made her way back to Benson, putting her hands firmly on her hips as she then pushed Benson backwards into the water, making him scream of surprise. When he got back up, he was laughing like crazy, doing the same to Wolf. The two was now having a war, pushing each other and splashing water om each other. Kipo saw what was happening and got excited, also wanting to play.
She helped Benson throw Wolf into the water, grabbing the child's feets as they swung her back and forth before throwing Wolf away into the water, where she was too short to stand on the ground. She swam back to the laughing teens and pushing the both of them into the water. It was two against one. Unfair.
She dived into the water and grabbed her friends' legs, making them fall as she then swam to the surface again to breathe. She stuck her tongue out at her friends when they got back up, glaring at her. The gnag continued their little war for half an hour, before they all got tired and decided to stop swimming.
Wolf sat in the sun, now cooled down and ready to search after Scarlemagne's palace again, just as her friends. Mandu sat down beside Wolf, letting out a soft squeal. Wolf couldn't help her smile. Though she still felt uneasy when having fun with her friends and not stand on guard, she needed to admit that it actually felt good to just relax for a while.
It had felt right.
The gang of five left the pool a few minutes later and together continued their journey to save Las Vistas, and maybe get to have some fun on the way.
