Barely awake, Donna lets out a sleepy sigh as Josh’s touch becomes firmer, more deliberate. Rolls onto her back as she blinks her eyes open and meets his soft, tentative gaze.
“Sorry,” she says through a stifled yawn, one hand coming up to cover her mouth. “What did you say?”
Josh goes quiet, his hand stilling, and she can sense his hesitation, recognises the set of his shoulders, the slight tremble of his jaw.
He clears his throat, head angled down and cheeks pink.
“I just… All those years… All that time… I wanted it to be you. So badly.”
