Work Text:
Sana pushed open the door to be greeted with a blast of warm air and the smell of coffee in the air. She walked through the cozy coffee shop to order her usual, and as she waits she instinctively looks at a booth in the corner. She smiles when she sees a familiar face flush and hide behind her book. Her order is ready and she sits one booth away from her... friend? Acquaintance? Their relationship, if you could even call it that, consisted of them glancing at each other from a booth away every weekday after Sana finished her Uni classes. She suspected the girl she spent her time looking at went to the same school. (Her sweater with the University's emblem may have given it away.) Sana knew her taste in literature better than her. She had a taste for the renaissance era and Emily Dickinson. Sana was definitely intrigued by her choices.
'I hope I get to know her someday soon.'
Sana stayed until closing, just like every other day. The employees knew her by name and bid her a kind goodbye. "Yeah, I'll see you later Nayeon." She braced herself for the cold air outside and walked to her dorm.
--
The next morning was hectic to say the very least. Her alarm didn't go off, her roommate had a cold, and her laundry wasn't done. "How many times have I told you not to drink from other people's cups? You know your immune system is weaker than a paper bridge." Her roommate pouted. Sana sighed. "Just make sure you drink enough water, okay? I'll stop by at lunch to make sure you take another dose of medicine."
"Thank you, Satang." Sana smiled. "Always, Mitang." She quickly got dressed in whatever she could find and sped out the door with her bag. She ended up only being a little late to her first class. "Hey, sorry I'm late," she quietly greeted her professor and searched for an open seat. Her eyes lit up when she saw that familiar face. She decided this was the day she steps further into what she hoped would be a great experience. "Hi, can I sit here?" The dark-haired girl looked up and her face flushed. "Um, yeah, s-sure." Sana smiled warmly and settled in next to her. She sat through the lesson and quietly admired the mystery girl's handwriting. 'So sharp, I wonder what kind of person she is?' She lost track of time and before she knew it, the class was over. Before they could leave, Sana introduced herself. "Hi, my name is Sana, nice to meet you!" The girl looked at her and saw the amusement in her eyes. She played along. "Momo, likewise."
'Momo.' Then, they were off to their next class. Sana kept her promise to her roommate and stopped by at lunch. "What has you so happy?" Sana smiled as she poured Mina's medicine. "More like who." Mina was suddenly very interested. "You know the girl from the coffee shop?" Mina smiled. "You mean the girl with 'the softest brown eyes I've ever seen?' That one?" Sana huffed. "Yes, that one. She's in my psych class, her name is Momo." Mina begrudgingly took the medicine. "Momo is a nice name." Sana nodded with a smile on her face. "Momo." She couldn't dwell on it much longer as her alarm started blasting. "I'll be back around seven. You know the drill." Mina bid her goodbye and Sana was off to campus once again. The rest of the day was a blur of textbooks and Momo. Sana barely registered what anyone was saying in her lectures, she was simply too excited for coffee that day.
--
She entered the coffee shop with a pep in her step and ordered her regular. She glanced at Momo's booth and her smile faltered. Momo looked really sad. She got her coffee and sat down at her usual booth. She debated whether or not to go over to Momo. Her mind was made up when she saw the girl wipe a tear from her face. She let Mina know she might be home late."Hey, is this seat taken?" Momo looked up and was sort of relieved to see Sana. "No." Sana sat across from her. They sat in silence for a moment when neither of them knew what to say. "Are you alright?" Momo looked up when she heard the question. She took comfort in her kind eyes. "No, not really." Momo felt like she could trust Sana. "Do you want to talk about it?" Momo sighed and put her face in her hands.
"My cat died last night." Sana understood why Momo was so upset. "I'm so sorry." She reached across the table to gently pull one of Momo's hands from her face. She held it on the tabletop. "What was its name?" The blonde's eyes held a care Momo wasn't sure she knew what to do with. "Mittens." Sana smiled and squeezed her hand. "That's an adorable name. Do you have any pictures?" The rest of their night was spent reminiscing over the beloved pet, the two got lost in a world all their own, tears turned to smiles and smiles to laughter. Sana decided Momo's laugh was something she needed to hear all the time, and her smile was a sight she needed to see every day. They ended up staying far past closing but the owners just let them.
"Are they finally talking?" Nayeon nodded to her partner and co-owner, Jeongyeon. "They look as perfect as we thought they would." Jeongyeon's childlike smile made Nayeon smile too. "I remember when we met in a coffee shop all those years ago." Jeongyeon chuckled. "I remember when we got married and bought that coffee shop before it was torn down for something new." Nayeon's smile grew, her fingers idly spinning her ring on her hand. The two ended up leaving around midnight, sheepishly apologizing to Nayeon and Jeongyeon. (And Sana thanking them profusely) The two parted ways with lighter hearts and excitement for the days to come.

"DUBU YOU'RE NEVER GONNA BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED!" Momo burst into her shared dorm, nearly scaring her roommate to death. Dahyun yelped and fell off her chair. Momo rushed to help her up. "Sorry, I'm just really excited." Dahyun waved it off and sat expectantly. "Sana. Her name is Sana. She's the one Dubu I'm telling you. No one's ever made me feel that happy." Dahyun smiled wide. "Give me all the details!" Momo sat down and spilled everything.
"Well one, she sat down at my booth and asked if I was okay just cause I looked sad. Then, when I told her about Mittens, she held my hand and comforted me. We ended up talking about mittens and her childhood pet for hours! She's so perfect Dubu." Momo flopped onto her bed and sighed. "You should ask her out." Momo sat straight up. "Are you kidding? I can't do that!" Dahyun shrugged. "You basically already went on one. I say just ask her out."
--
"Hey, Sana?" The girls were packing up to leave their lecture. "What's up?" Sana's happy tone made Momo feel at ease. "Um, I was wondering if you'd like to get coffee sometime?" Sana looked at her amusedly. "We get coffee every day." Momo flushed and tried to recover. "Well yeah, but I meant like a date coffee-" She stopped when she saw Sana's face. "Stop teasing." Momo pouted and Sana cooed. "I'd love to get coffee with you, like a date coffee specifically."
"See you after class then?" Sana nodded and gave Momo a peck on the cheek before she left for her next class. Momo smiled wide and set off for her classes, anticipating their date that night.
--
Sana entered the coffee shop and ordered her usual, plus some snacks for the table. She pretended not to notice Momo not-so-subtly checking her out. She may or may not have stopped at home to put on a nice dress. "Good luck on your date." Nayeon winked at Sana when she handed her the drink and snacks. Sana smiled and made her way to the booth. "Hi." Momo was looking star-struck. "H-Hi. You look amazing." Sana thanked her bashfully. "It took us approximately a year to talk to each other, but only three days since then to go on a date." Momo smiled. "Funny how that works." The two just smiled at each other for a few moments. "I know more about your taste in books than you, you know." Momo giggled, Sana smiled. "You have been watching me read for a while." They both laughed at that and fell into an easy conversation.
They talked for hours, just like the night before. They traded childhood stories, bonded over TV shows, and fell harder for each other every second. At some point, Sana moved to sit on the same side as Momo and their conversation died down. They sat in silence, Momo's arm around Sana's shoulders as the younger woman leaned into her side. "Momoring?" Momo looked down at her and smiled. "New nickname?" Sana nodded and looked thoughtfully at her. "Can I kiss you?" Momo blushed but nodded her head. Sana sat up and leaned in, the kiss was simple, comfortable, easy. When they pulled away they both had smiles that could light up a stadium. "I didn't know I wanted to do that so badly." Momo smiled. "We can do it again if you want." Sana laughed but leaned in for one more sweet kiss.
Meanwhile, Jeongyeon and Nayeon were peeking at them and quietly squealing like children. "It's happening it's happening!" Jeongyeon pretended to clean the counters while conspicuously glancing at the booth. Nayeon wasn't any better, she had the same mug in the sink for five minutes, her fingers were pruning up. Soon, after a quick goodbye to the owners, the two women strolled to Sana's dorm hand in hand. "Thank you for tonight, it was wonderful." Momo kissed her cheek. "I want to do this again sometime if you're up for it. Maybe switch it up and go to an ice cream shop instead?" Sana laughed and nudged her. "Definitely, time and place and I'll be there." A gust of wind went by and Sana shivered. "Oh, this is the part where I offer my hoodie and you decline, but then I insist and you take it anyway, right?" Sana giggled and accepted the article of clothing when Momo offered it. "Thank you, it's very warm." She linked their arms and they walked in silence for the rest of the trip.
When they made it to Sana's dorm building, they stopped in front of the door. "I guess I'll see you tomorrow?" Sana pulled out her phone. "Give me your number so I can still text you, I may be home but the night doesn't have to end so soon." She obliged and gave Sana her number. "There we go. I guess this is goodnight then." Sana rolled her eyes playfully. "As if I'd let you go without the classic cliche 'kiss at the front door' scene." She pulled Momo in for one last warm, welcome kiss. "I'll see you tomorrow, Momoring. Get home safe." She pecked her cheek once more and went inside. Momo smiled and held her face, the kiss still there far after Sana left.
"Thank you, Mittens."
