Work Text:
Draco showed up at the Great Hall a bit early, hoping to find Harry, but Harry wasn’t there yet. He sank down next to Blaise who just patted him supportively on the back.
“I believe in you.”
Draco shoved his hand off, “Very funny.”
He kept glancing over at the Gryffindor table in hopes to see him, but the whole trio still hadn’t arrived ten minutes after Draco. Pansy showed up a few minutes after that to bother them into severe irritation. When he glanced back at the Gryffindor table, he made eye contact with Hermione who gave him a look sharp enough to stop him from so much as twitching in the direction of the table for ten minutes. He felt a tap on his back a while after that and he looked up.
It was Harry, wearing the same velvet tie Draco had watched him tug off yesterday, but where Draco’s marks should’ve been visible, they had disappeared. Harry gave a meek, “Hi.”
“Why are you over here, Potter?” Pansy said, annoyance dripping from her words. Harry’s gaze flickered to Draco unsurely and took a step back, apparently retreating. Blaise lightly shoved Draco and Draco quickly shoved him back.
“Actually, I need to talk to him,” Draco said, bench screeching as he got up. “Potions project. I’ll be back in a minute.”
Blaise winked at him as he turned away and he made a mental note to punch him later, following Harry out of the hall. The two stood outside by the steps of the courtyard, tired students scattered around and Draco watched his deep green eyes look everywhere but Draco.
Harry tucked his brown hair behind both of his ears, saying, “I wanted to talk to you.”
“So did I.”
“What happened yesterday?” His voice was hushed. Draco swallowed harshly.
“A lot.”
“I mean- was it real?”
“Do you mean that like did it happen or was it more than a one-off?”
“Was it more than a one-off?”
“That depends on you.. I,” Draco hesitated but then decided not to finish that, looking at the smaller-framed boy. He wasn’t gonna risk rejection if he didn’t have to.
Harry chewed at his bottom lip, “I want it to be real.”
Draco felt air come back into his lungs, unaware he’d been holding his breath until that moment, “So do I.”
Harry looked up, “Really?”
“Mhmm.”
“Awesome- great,” Harry stumbled. Draco couldn’t help but smirk as color crept into the tan boy's complexion. They both paused.
“What did you tell Hermione?”
“Um, I told her vaguely what happened- apart from the stuff you told me about your dad.. and I left most of the details out from our, um, our kissing.”
“She still glares at me.”
“She thinks you're playing me.”
Draco frowned, “I’m not.”
“I know, Draco. You couldn’t have planned for that to happen.. I’m guessing you told Blaise by the way he was acting in the hall.”
Draco grimaced internally, “Yeah.”
“You didn’t tell him about my aunt and uncle, right?”
“Of course not.”
“Um, so, are we dating or..?” Harry said awkwardly, shifting from foot to foot. Draco tried not to laugh at the idiot who was honestly trying his hardest to communicate.
“Well, are you out as gay or anything?”
“I’m bi and Hermione and Ron know.. but no one else knows.. you?”
“I’m.. gay, I think,” He scratched the back of his neck, “I’m not sure. I haven’t really talked to anyone but Blaise about it.”
“You don’t really need to figure it out… In a hypothetical situation where we were both out and it would work, would you want to date me..?”
“Hypothetically.. I would,” Draco humored. Harry smiled slightly, dimples carving into the sides of his cheeks. Draco felt a blush crawl into his face, hoping he wasn’t pink as he pressed down a smile. “In private until then?”
The boy stumbled slightly on his words, “I- yeah.”
A smile finally broke from between Draco’s lips. Harry laughed nervously, fixing his glasses as Draco gazed at him, before his gaze found Harry’s neck again, “Hey, what happened to the marks I gave you?”
Harry lifted a hand to his neck, “Ah- I used a bruise removal charm. I didn’t want Ron to start asking questions cause that’d just be awkward.. I mean, I’ll tell him soon, but it would be weird if that’s how he figured it out, right?”
Draco leaned against the wall, “You should go tell him before Hermione does.”
“Good point, you should get back too before your friends start asking questions.”
Neither turned away even though they were in agreement they needed to, Draco holding eye contact as Harry gradually turned the color of his robe. Merlin, he was so cute. Draco took a quick glance around, before quickly stepping forward and planting a kiss on the crown of Harry's head, whispering, "Bye."
He really was the color of his robe when Draco pulled away, mouth open for a moment before he managed to stammer, "Bye," as Draco turned away, wearing a small smile.
The end :)
