Delphia had been complaining about her most recent vision. She had to stop someone from getting executed, but she couldn’t come up with a plan. She said she had about a day to figure something out before she had to wing it. Ash was desperate to help her, they were the only one she’d spoken to about it. They wanted to solve her problem.
“Maybe… I could make a scene play up something I can do and get them out of it…no that could backfire. They may just act faster,” she sighed. Ash reached out their hand and cupped it around her. She leaned into their touch and they smiled down at her. They got an idea looking down at her. Their little flower, it wasn’t like other humans weren’t also her size.
“I have an idea, but you’re not going to like it,” they said. She looked at them confused, they struggled to meet her eyes.
“Ash, what are you thinking?”
“Don’t worry little flower, you’ll see when you go to help them. You won’t fail.” They ran a thumb up and down her side. She smiled at them, a look of suspicion in her eyes. She’d truly hate what they planned to do, but she was desperate to help this person. They didn’t want her to hurt herself in order to do it. “When do you need to leave?”
She closed her eyes and they felt the weight on their hand grow. She’d entered a vision, letting herself be completely vulnerable around them. They smiled, her trust in them made their heart feel like blooming flowers. They watched her closely, the small movements as she experienced the life of another in her vision. They tightened their hand slightly as she started to struggle, something bad happened. They hated seeing her suffer like this, even if once she came back she was fine. She gasped, grabbing at her throat as her eyes opened. The fear in them broke Ash’s heart, even if it wasn’t towards them.
“They changed it, I have to go now. If I don’t…” she trailed off. They knew how she was about the worst outcomes she saw at times. “What’s your plan Ash? I need to go.”
“Don’t worry little flower, trust me. Go and I will follow,” they said. She looked conflicted for a moment, but her need to help the person she’d seen won.
She summoned her own exit, Ash touched it so they could make a door their own size. She ran through quickly, Ash taking slower steps through their own door. As the mortal realm came into their view, the awe they felt at how small mortals were overcame them. Humans created some amazing and powerful things while fitting in their hand. They stopped and watched as Delphia rushed to the town, another human being kept on a platform with what looked like a rope around their neck.
Ash started taking their steps carefully. They felt anger as they saw the crowd gathering, as much as they adored humans the cruelty sickened them. They watched as their little flower pushed her way through the crowd. They took a cautious step into the town, they still couldn’t be seen. They took a position near the platform and waited for Delphia to get close. They didn’t want her to be hard to find after this.
“Stop, don’t do this!” she screamed as she reached the front. They wanted to give her a chance before they made her mad. They hated when she was upset with them, last time she went a week avoiding them.
“Shut up you fool, don’t disrupt the show!” another human said and pushed Delphia to the ground. Ash narrowed their eyes, that was enough waiting.
Ash let their anger grow slightly, dark clouds covering the town quickly. Booms of thunder and cracks of lightning sounded. Delphia was climbing slowly to her feet when Ash stopped hiding themself. As their form appeared the humans around screamed, humans always assumed it was bad if a god appeared. They ignored the screams and crouched down so they could see the platform better. They reached out, the people who were planning to kill Delphia’s charge running and leaving the person behind.
Delphia was quick to run up the person when Ash knocked them gently into their hand. They held them up while closing their thumb and forefinger on the rope. They tugged and the rope ripped free. Delphia was staring up at them, they didn’t want to consider the emotions behind the look she was giving. They used their free hand to pinch around her waist and place her in the hand with the other human, who had started to shake. They were cautious as they walked away, pulling their hand close to their chest.
“Put us down Ash,” Delphia called up. Her voice was steady, but they could hear something darker underneath. They did as she asked, placing their hand flat on the ground. Delphia helped the human off of Ash’s hand, the person was still shaking. She reached into her bag and pulled something out to give them. She pointed in a direction. “Head that way, a town will be there that’s got no connections to where you just left. You’ll be able to live without any concern. I promise you don’t have to worry about either of us coming to you again. You’ll be safe now.”
The human looked up at Ash then back at Delphia. They hugged her before turning in the direction she pointed and running off. She glared up at Ash and climbed back on their hand. They pulled her up to their chest and waited a few more minutes before calling up their way home. As they appeared in their room with her they couldn’t hold back their sigh anymore. They pulled their hand up in front of their face holding it close.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you, but you-” they started. She held up a hand and glared, they knew to let her speak when she did that. She stood and walked up to their nose putting her hands on it for balance.
“You’re right, you should have told me. That was a risky idea. You were right earlier too, I didn’t like it,” she said. Ash was ready to pull her away and take her to her room, but they saw her lean forward and felt a light kiss. “Thank you for helping me save them. I don’t think I could have otherwise.”
