Work Text:
The first time they get caught is a close call. Granted, it was Jungkoook who seemed suspicious and he will believe anything Yoongi says. Once Yoongi had made him believe that he actually witnessed the moon landing as his original dream was to become an astronaut.
“Really hyung? You really witnessed the moon landing? You’re so cool, ” he said with absolute awe in his eyes.
Yoongi couldn’t believe him. “No, you absolute buffoon. How the hell would I witness the fucking moon landing? I was born more than 30 years later.”
Realization seemed to dawn on Jungkook as he downcast his eyes. “I just thought you time traveled or something. There’s actually quite a lot of theories that support that it may be true,” he had mumbled out, awe still evident in his voice.
Yoongi pinched his eyebrows together and sighed exasperatedly. “How did you graduate medical school kid? Please enlighten me.” Jungkook had just just grinned back.
Which brings him to his current predicament. They always have a plan. Yoongi leaves first, after collecting himself and pushing back the flyway pieces of hair. Seokjin usually follows him soon afterwards, adjusting his glasses on his nose bridge and patting down any wrinkles in his white coat. They’re usually prepared. But then again, Jungkook has a habit of appearing out of thin air. Being a first year intern and his curious nature has Jungkook asking nearly every doctor in the hospital questions constantly. Usually they are grossly unrealistic comparisons to the medical dramas he watches.
“We should take out the defibrillator. That’s what Meredith did and she was only a first year intern. We should take out the defibrillator right Dr. Jung?”
“Jungkook, you need to stop watching medical dramas. Her blood pressure is only a little elevated. She really doesn’t need to be revived right now,” Hoseok, the cardiothoracic resident, says pointedly.
Jungkook often makes a noise that sounds like he doesn’t agree but furiously writes down on his rainbow coloured sticky pad.
Today is like no other. Yoongi is just about to walk away from the supply closet when he hears Jungkook’s singsong voice. “Ah Yoongi hyung, just the man I was looking for. I have a question for you.” Yoongi sighs loudly.
“Ok first, do not call me hyung while we’re on duty. I know our families have known each other and you’re like a little brother to me but at the hospital call me Dr. Min.”
“Noted," Jungkook says affirmatively. “Anyways I have a question and I bet you can answer it. I know you said I shouldn’t watch too many dramas and compare them to real life but—“
Jungkook cuts himself off as he sees Seokjin emerging from the supply closet. Yoongi tries warning him to come up with a solid lie by communicating with his eyes, hoping Seokjin catches on.
Yoongi looks at Seokjin who’s looking at Jungkook who’s narrowing his eyes at both of them. “What were the two of you doing in there?” he asks with suspicion, lacing his voice.
Yoongi looks at Seokjin with panic in his eyes. Seokjin and Yoongi answer at the same time
“I was helping Yoongi find more lollipops for the kids for when they have a check up,” Seokjin answers.
“I was helping Dr. Kim find his stethoscope which he seemed to have misplaced,” Yoongi says, enunciating the last word longer than necessary.
‘Lollipops? Really?’ Yoongi mouths to Seokjin when Jungkook isn’t looking
Seokjin makes a point to shrug his overly large and broad shoulders as if he didn’t come up with the lamest excuse ever.
“What Dr. Kim means that I was helping him find his stethoscope because for whatever reason one of the kids I was checking up on took it and we were going to give them candy to give it back.” The longer he thinks about it , that statement alone sounds like it violates at least half of the HIPAA laws. How could a small child even carry a heavy stethoscope let alone steal one?
Jungkook stands there, hands on his waist, eyes still narrowed in suspicion as he ponders their words for a bit. Seonkjin is quick to interrupt him and asks, “Didn’t you have a question?”
“Oh yeah. I did but I forgot. Honestly this whole situation reminds of an episode of Grey's I watched once but you all told me none of it is real, so I am just going to go do my rounds and leave you two to find stethoscopes and lollipops in the sanitary gowns closet.” Jungkook quickly bows and makes his exit and heads towards the patients rooms.
“That went well? Don’t you think Yoongi-chi?” Seokjin flashes his million dollar smile at him. Yoongi smacks him on the shoulder and lets out a grunt of frustration before going about his way to the pediatrics ward.
“Shut up. I’ll see you at home.”
♡
The second time it happens is towards the end of the day when the gynecology resident, Kim Taehyung inquires about their carpooling plans for the evening. Most of the doctors that are in Yoongi’s close group of friends are also his colleagues. Taehyung is no exception, although he often likes reducing him to just a colleague because he knows it ticks him off.
“Yoongi hyung. Seokjin hyung. The planet is dying.” That is how Kim Taehyung greets them on a random Thursday afternoon whilst the both of them are grabbing lunch in the cafeteria with Namjoon.
“You’re so right Taehyung. I’m glad my talks about sustainable shopping finally got to you,” Namjoon says from across the table, his mouth stuffed with rice.
Taehyung puts his hand up. “No, Namjoon hyung. This isn’t just about sustainable shopping anymore. This is about greenhouse gasses. Do you not realize that all of us bringing our cars to work everyday is directly related to reopening the ozone layer. Greenhouse gasses are the problem and working in a hospital already adds to our carbon footprint.”
“It was always about greenhouse gasses," Namjoon mutters as Taehyung turns his attention towards Yoongi and Seokjin.
“This is where you two come into my plan for closing the ozone layer and single handedly decreasing the effects of greenhouse gasses.”
Seokjin and Yoongi share a look of something that lies between fear and intrigue.
“I will now be carpooling with the two of you. I know the two of you have been carpooling to and from work for quite some time now.” Yoongi opens his mouth to reject Taehyung’s offer. “And before you say anything, think of the turtles,” he says with a solemn look on his face.
“Taehyung please, for the love of god do you even listen to me when I talk about Climate Change?” Namjoon says exasperatedly.
“Of course I do. Look, this is me making an active change in my personal life.”
“How is any of what you said related to one another?”
Taehyung fixes Namjoon with a stare. “Everything is connected, hyung. There's no such thing as a coincidence.” Namjoon shivers, and wordlessly goes back to eating his lunch.
“Taehyung. As much as I love your plan of saving the seals-”
“Turtles.”
Yoongi continues.
“Yes. Turtles. Anyways. It just wouldn’t work because me and hyung have similar shifts and you’re still doing your on-call shifts more often than the both of us. It wouldn’t be feasible. Why don’t you ask Jungkook, he’s practically at the hospital 24/7?”
“Okay maybe not everyday. And I did ask Jungkookie, I don’t think that kid goes home and I would rather not be subjected to his crazy and lack of sleep-ridden eyes.”
“Jungkook’s not the only ones with crazy eyes,” Namjoon mutters from somewhere behind them, and is once again ignored.
Taehyung turns to Seokjin. “How about this? On the day that we have aligning shifts, you can drop me off at the train station after you drop Yoongi hyung to his apartment complex since they're all on the way. That way I can carpool a few days a week and stop the climate from having a crisis.”
“Taehyung-” Seokjin starts.
“Please hyung, please.” And how is Seokjin supposed to resist those eyes? Yoongi knows he’s going to break.
“Ok fine, only on the days we have aligning shifts.”
“Perfect. I get off early today. I’ll meet you both at the front.” And then he walks away from the lunch tables, an extra bounce in his step, as if he had just given a speech at the UNGA and saved the climate crisis.
Yoongi groans, holding his head in his hands.
“I’m leaving hyungs. Make sure you compost and recycle,” Namjoon says with a scowl on his face.
Once Namjoon is out of earshot, Yoongi turns around to face Seokjin.
“Why would you agree to that? How are we supposed to navigate the fact that we don’t carpool because we live together?”
“I’m sure it’ll be fine Yoongi-chi. I’ll just drop Tae off to the train station before we go home.”
Yoongi scowls and folds his arms over his chest.
“God you look so cute when you’re grumpy. I just wanna eat you up." Seokjin says this as he pinches Yoongi’s cheeks together.
Yoongi swats his hand away, fighting the blush creeping up his cheeks.
“Whatever. I’ll see you later hyung.” Seokjin sends him off with a wink which only causes his blush to return.
Taehyung's knock on the car window startles Yoongi. He looks to his left and sees Taehyung gesturing for him to come outside with a big grin. Yoongi rolls down the window.
“Hyung, come outside. Let me sit at the front. You'll be getting out before me anyways so we might as well switch places now.” Yoongi turns to Seokjin, fixing him with a look that says, say something or I’ll scream.
Seokjin pales and quickly excuses Taehyung.
“Taehyung-ah it’s okay i’ll drop you off first and drop Yoongi later. It's really no problem.”
“Nonsense. It doesn't make sense for you to drive back in the opposite direction, especially in this weather.”
Seokjin looks at Yoongi with pleading eyes.
“Fine hyung you can drop me off at my apartment complex first." Yoongi says this with gritted teeth as he gets out of the car and makes his way to the back seat.
“Awesome! I can’t wait to carpool with my two favourite hyungs.”
Seokjin begins driving, occasionally peering in the rear view mirror to see if Yoongi's scowl had disappeared. It had not.
“Alright Yoongi-yah, this is you.” Seokjin pulls up to Yoongi's old apartment building. He had recently moved out three months ago to start living with Seokjin but none of his friends knew that yet. Yoongi can hear the tremor in his voice, as if Seokjin knows he’ll be facing Yoongi's wrath at home.
Yoongi gathers his belongings and zips up his winter coat again, once he gets out of the backseat.
“Thanks hyung, I’ll see you tomorrow. Bye Taehyung.” Yoongi tries bidding farewell to his “friends” with as much genuineness as he can muster but it still comes out dry. Taehyung doesn't notice however.
“Bye hyung!” Taehyung chirps.
Yoongi walks up to the lobby of his old apartment building, waving back to his friends once more. He stands in the lobby unsure of what to do because he doesn’t have his keys anymore nor does he know anyone’s buzzer that could let him in the building.
Seokjin begins to take the car out of park when Taehyung interrupts.
“Shouldn’t we wait until he’s inside the building?”
“Nah. Yoongi's a big boy. He’ll be fine,” Seokjin says before Taheyung can get any more suspicious.
Yoongi follows the car with his eyes as it leaves the driveway, taking the exact details of the situation into account. Frankly Yoongi can’t believe they’ve taken the farce this far, but it’s too late to back out now.
Twenty minutes pass by, before Yoongi calls his boyfriend.
One ring. Two rings. “Hello? Yoongi-yah. It’s just me in the car now. I just dropped Tae off i’m about to leave the train station”
“Good. You better come pick me up quickly or you’re sleeping on the couch. It’s fucking cold and I’m loitering outside my old apartment building as if I live here anymore.”
“I’ll be there soon. Wow if only Taehyung knew just how much he’s contributing to the climate crisis," Seokjin laughs on the other line.
“I’m hanging up now. Start dreaming of the couch cause that’s where you’ll be sleeping if you keep laughing.” Yoongi hangs up the phone and waits for his boyfriend. After some time, he sees Seokjin pull up the driveway. And, despite all the trouble, he still smiles his big gummy toothed smile as he slips into the passenger seat, because after all, he loves him.
♡
The third time they attempt to avoid suspicion is on a day they both have off. More specifically, a day in which Yoongi's best friend from medical school (and current colleague), Hoseok as well Namjoon have a day off. It’s a hard thing to come by where more than two of them have the same day off, let alone the four of them. Taehyung, Jungkook and Jimin, the orthopedic resident, that complete the rest of their group are a couple years younger than the elder four, so their schedules don't align as often as they’d like too.
“Hyung we finally all have a day off tomorrow!” Hoseok exclaims from across the hallway, as he walks. Yoongi usually loves Hoseok and his cheery self but he simply cannot fathom how he has this much energy at seven am in the morning.
Hoseok greets him with a smack to his back. Yoongi coughs a little and shoves him back.
“Aw hyung you look like a cute lil’ grumpy kitten in the morning,” Hoseok says this as he boops his nose. Yoongi makes a disgruntled noise, still waiting for the caffeine to kick in otherwise he would have a snarky response.
“Anyways as I was saying. Me, you, Namjoon-ah and Seokjin hyung all have the day off tomorrow. Maybe we should do something?”
“Can’t. Busy.”
“What could you possibly be doing on a Thursday that you can’t make time for your longest and most dear friend,” Hoseok responds, his face contorting into something that makes him look like a kicked puppy. His friends really have a flair for theatrics. Maybe they are living a medical drama.
“I’m going fishing.” Hoseok guffaws, head rolling back and doubling over in laughter.
“But you hate fishing. Who are you going with?”
“Seokjin hyung.” Yoongi says this barely above a whisper.
“You’re lying. You hate fishing. You told me you’d rather eat rotten fish than ever go fishing and wake up at 5am.”
Yoongi does remember saying something like that in his Tourism elective class in undergrad. How Hoseok remembers is beyond him. Seaside towns were such a small unit in the curriculum too.
Yoongi groans, “Yeah I hate it but I go because Seokjin hyung likes it.”
Hoseok stares at him. There is a very long awkward silence.
“I mean-what I mean is I'm going for the very first time in my life because Seokjin hyung likes it and he promised he’d do the dishes for a week if I came with him.”
Hoseok continues to stare at him. “So you’re going to make Seokjin hyung drive all the way to your place just so he can do your dishes? Everyday?”
“Yes.” Yoongi may have forgotten the fact that no one knew of their living arrangement.
“And you're going fishing with him because you didn’t want to do your dishes for some reason?”
“Yes.” Yoongi makes a point to not look directly at Hoseok so he doesn’t see his beady eyes boring into his soul. For being an otherwise cheery person, Hoseok is scary. And if he looks at you long enough, people are compelled to just tell him all of their secrets. Yoongi shivers at the thought, suddenly overcome with memories of oversharing with Hoseok during medical school.
After an unnecessary long staring competition, Hoseok finally speaks.
“Weird flex, but okay. Have fun on your fishing date with the hot head of surgery.”
Yoongi sputters as he yells after Hoseok. “It’s not a date, you weirdo. I just want someone to do my chores!” But his complaints are left unheard as Hoseok skips down the hallway. Yoongi shivers again. He can still hear the faint sound of cackling coming from the cardio thoracic ward.
♡
The next time Seokjin and Yoongi nearly reveal themselves, not by their own choice, but Namjoon’s. For being one of the smartest and well respected neurosurgeons in the country, he can be quite oblivious. Namjoon even skipped a few years of undergrad and accelerated through medical school because he was that smart. Not that Yoongi should be complaining considering he’s the one that hadn’t told his friends, he and Seokjin are together. So, Yoongi can understand why he is in his current situation, but that doesn’t mean he likes it. The scowl on his face is probably telling of how he feels right now.
“Hyung. Are you okay? Do you not like gelato?”
“No Namjoon-ah. I am perfectly fine.” He grits out. “The gelato is so good. I can really tell they’ve worked around the mint chocolate flavour and made it their own.”
Namjoon beams at Yoongi, proud that his hyung likes his recommendation for the new gelato place that opened across town.
Initially, or literally sixty minutes ago, this gelato rendezvous was supposed to be a date night after a tiring day at work for Yoongi and Seokjin. Yoongi's mistake was asking Namjoon for recommendations towards the end of the day. Namjoon had just come out of a grueling 9 hour surgery, which Yoongi had assumed would have tired him out and he didn’t need to extend an invite.
“Of course, I have some ice cream recommendations, hyung. You know I've made it my life’s goal to denounce mint chocolate as a flavour, but even this place had me trying a bite.’
“That’s great Namjoon-ah, Jin hyung and I had some time after work today and were thinking of getting some ice cream. The others have already left for today and I know you must be exhausted after such a long surgery.”
With the amount of lies he’s had to cover up, Yoongi seems to have a way with words now. Extending an invite to Namjoon but also not letting him say yes. Yoongi feels proud of himself.
“Hyung, I am never too tired for ice cream and I am not missing the chance to see the look of defeat on Jin hyungs face when he realizes I’ve finally beat him in finding a tolerable place that serves mint chocolate. Both he and I are mint choco antis so we’ve made it a competition to see who can find a mint chocolate place that’s worth eating first.” Namjoon smiles at Yoongi who looks back at him appalled.
“No, it’s quite alright Joon. You’re exhausted, we can go another day,” Yoongi tries again.
“Nah. I need a pick me up anyways and some gelato sounds like heaven right now.”
Yoongi hangs his head, looking forlorn, as he follows the Neurosurgeon, who seems to be bouncing with joy. Either he takes his ice cream connoisseurship seriously or the surgery must have gotten to him.
“Mmmm, Yoongi-yah this pistachio flavour is to die for,” Seokjin exclaims from beside Yoongi. All three of them are walking by the pier, gelato in hand.
Yoongi nods wordlessly, going back to his mint chocolate which he had picked out of spite. Despite competing to find a place that makes mint chocolate a tolerable flavour, Namjoon and Seokjin still hated it.
“I told you hyung, the gelato here is like no other, '' Namjoon says to Seokjin.
“It’s really good but the mint chocolate still tastes bad. Sorry. You haven’t won," Seokjin declares.
“You’re just a sore loser.”
Seokjin sticks his tongue out at Namjoon at that.
The three of them continue to chatter about the day, Seokjin and Namjoon mainly filling the silence, when they stop by a pair of benches opposite to each other that look out at the waterfront. Yoongi takes a seat , Seokjin slipping into the bench in front of him. That only leaves Namjoon to sit beside Yoongi.
Yoongi's eyes softened when he realizes where Seokjin had decided to sit, knowing it had been deliberate. He had told him once that he only likes sitting in front of him especially when they’re out with their friends.
“Hyung, why do you never sit beside me? How else am I supposed to secretly hold your hand?” Yoongi had complained.
“If I sit beside you, I won’t get to see your beautiful face.”
Yoongi blushed crimson. “God hyung you’re so cheesy,” he whined.
“Plus we can play footsy under the table,” Seokjin had said whilst wiggling his eyebrows. Yoongi had laughed, oddly endeared by Seokjin's way of showing love.
Namjoons voice brings him back to the present. “Okay hyung what are your reviews?”
“Is it the best-“ Namjoon makes a gagging face “mint choco you’ve ever had?”
Yoongi laughs at Namjoons antics and begins to enjoy himself, momentarily forgetting his grief over a lost date night.
“I’ll have to try it again to be sure.” Yoongi licks some of the gelato off of his cone and makes a noise of approval.
“It’s alright, but i’ve had better,” he teases Namjoon even though this is probably the best mint choco he's ever had.
Namjoon rolls his eyes knowing Yoongi is messing with him.
“Yoongi-yah, how many times have I told you to eat properly? There’s gelato on the corner of your mouth,” Seokjin nags from across him
And before anyone can say anything, Seokjin gets up from the bench, leans down in front of Yoongi's face and licks the ice cream off of the right side of Yoongi's mouth.
He sits back down, smirking at Yoongi. Although, his expression quickly changes from absolute glee and slowly morphs into something that of horror. Seokjin looks at Namjoon who's just as dumbfounded as Yoongi, mouth hanging open.
What happens next is completely beyond Yoongi's imagination.
Seokjin leans over and kisses the side of Namjoons mouth, although far enough that it could also be counted as kissing his cheek.
“You’re right bro. The mint choco here is good, although I still prefer salted caramel.”
Yoongi looks horrified, mirroring Namjoons expression as Namjoon promptly drops his salted caramel cone to the ground.
♡
After the whole gelato debacle, which Namjoon seems to have wiped from his memory and repressed deep within his mind in a folder that’s probably titled “Jin hyung panicking and calling people bro,” Yoongi and Seokjin have one more close call, although it might as well be them revealing their relationship. Why? Because Park Jimin is a conniving, evil, little man.
It was supposed to be a hassle-free surgery. One of Yoongi's patients, a young eight year old boy who had broken his leg while playing soccer, and only required a small procedure.
Due to the orthopedic nature of the surgery, the orthopedic surgery resident, also certified pain in a Yoongi's ass, Park Jimin was taking the lead on it.
As such, Yoongi also scrubbed in on the surgery, seeing as it was his patient. The surgery was supposed to take around two to three hours and it seemed that it was nearing its end.
“Dr. Min. Do you want to help in finishing up these sutures?” Yoongi heard Jimin ask. He had plenty of practice with suturing and other surgical tasks, however, Yoongi always liked being involved in his patients surgeries one way or another, so that when his young patients woke up, they would be assured he was there the whole time and helping the other doctors out.
Oftentimes, Yoongi wouldn’t be involved in the surgeries at all but stayed at the hospital for both his peace of mind and the parents of his patients.
Yoongi nods in agreement as he takes over the last of the sutures from Jimin. Usually, an attending would also be present in the operating room, but with such a simple surgery and a team that consists of two senior residents and two surgical nurses, it didn’t require one. Jimin steps aside and raises his hands so that the surgical nurse can assist him in taking off his surgical gloves and replacing them with new ones. Once changed into new gloves, Jimin steps aside and begins making conversation with Yoongi.
”Gosh. Yoongi hyung, when was the last time you caught a break? I swear you’re at the hospital every single night.”
“Jimin, you're acting as if you’re not here every night either,” Yoongi says, still focused on suturing.
“Ok but it's really unfair that I've only seen you at the hospital in the last month.”
Yoongi makes a noise of agreement as he wraps up the last of the sutures and is about to scrub out of the surgery.
“Dr. Min, your phone is ringing,” the surgical nurse says to him as he’s wrapping up. Yoongi looks up at him, confused.
“I thought I had it in the do not disturb setting?”
“You do. But it seems like you’ve let this contact call you anytime regardless of the do not disturb setting.”
It must be Seokjin. Yoongi vaguely remembers setting up his contact settings when he first got the phone two months ago, but not accounting for the fact that Seokjin may also call when he’s in the operating room.
As Yoongi begins to scrub out of surgery by taking off his gloves, he sees Jimin peek over the nurses shoulder.
“Yoongi hyung. Who’s jagiya, heart emoji, eggplant emoji and fish emoji?”
Yoongi's heart genuinely feels like it falls out of his ass. His eyes go wide and he looks up to see Park Jimin, devil incarnate, smirking at him.
“Thank-you Hyun-woo ssi, I can take Yoongi hyungs phone from you, we’re both going the same way.”
Yoongi's eyes widen, he can still hear his phone ringing, and knowing Park Jimin, he might just pick it up.
“Park Jimin. Don’t you dare pick up my phone!” Yoongi yells after him, as he exits the operating room, bowing to the nurses.
After about thirty seconds, Yoongi finally catches up to Jimin at the end of the hallway and snatches his phone out of his hands.
“Park Jimin, you sea urchin, you didn’t pick up my call did you?”
Jimin scoffs, “Hyung, I do have some class, I would never cross your boundaries. Also, wow, I’m loving these new insults. Sea urchin is a new one.”
“Thanks, I learned from the best,” Yoongi rolls his eyes as he inspects his phone call history, just to be on the safe side.
“So,” Jmin starts from beside him and Yoongi can already tell he won’t like it. Yoongi groans really loudly to let Jimin know he already doesn’t like what he’s about to ask.
“Who’s the unfortunate soul that decided to become your jagiya?” the orthopedic resident says, adding air quotes on the last word.
“He’s not my jagiya, it’s just an inside joke between a friend and I. And as if I’d ever consider telling you, you’re the devil incarnate. I’m just glad you didn’t pick up the call or I’d be embarrassed forever.”
“So you wouldn’t mind calling them back right now in front of me and talking to them?”
Yoongi thinks about it for a minute. He really has nothing to lose, he can just talk to Jin normally and it’s not like he’ll have to put the phone on speaker.
“Sure. Why not?”
The both of them turn right, heading for the elevators, so that they can take them to the third floor, where most of the physician offices are.
“Alright, better start calling back jagiya, we’re almost at my office.”
Yoongi begins to search for Seokjin’s contact in his phone, absentmindedly following Jimin as he takes a left when they get off the elevator.
In Yoongi’s absentmindedness, he doesn’t realize that they’ve stopped in the surgery ward, his back ironically facing Seokjin’s office.
The phone rings one, two, three times when he starts to hear a familiar ringtone. He must be imagining things. He can distinctly hear Seokjin's ringtone “Jin Jin Jin Jinniyaa” by Young Tak from behind him.
Yoongi looks at Jimin who seems to be grinning as if he had just taken over the underworld.
Jin’s voice breaks him out of his realizations. “Hello Yoongi?” Yoongi hears him everywhere. “Yoongi. Are you there?” Yoongi abruptly ends the call.
Jimin looks at Yoongi and starts to cackle, simultaneously running down the hallway.
Yoongi books it after him, ready to pummel him to the ground.
“Park Jimin, you conniving evil little man, I’m gonna kill you!”
♡
After what was basically them revealing their relationship because of Park Jimin's expertise in catching Yoongi at his most vulnerable moments, Jin and Yoongi decide that it was time to tell all their friends that they’re together, and have been for quite some time now. Their solution is to invite them all to dinner at their home, the only obstacle being that they can all somehow get one evening off together.
The opportunity finally comes three weeks later, when all of seven of them miraculously have a Saturday evening off. After pulling some strings, Seokjin was able to get the seven of them a mutual day off. Yoongi thinks dating the hot head of surgery definitely has its perks.
Yoongis setting the table, laying out plates, cutlery and glasses, for when his friends come over.
“Yoongi-chi,” Seokjin calls him from the kitchen. Yoongi walks into the kitchen and his eyes soften at the state of Seokjin. He’s wearing his apron that has alpacas all over it and his hair is tousled from being in the kitchen all day. There also seems to be the remnants of chocolate from earlier when trying recipes, on the side of his mouth.
Jin reaches out to Yoongi and envelops him in an embrace, his chin resting on Yoongi's head.
“We’ll be okay right, hyung?” Yoongi mutters against Jin’s chest.
“Of course we will, Yoongi-chi. They’re our friends. I think they’ll be very happy for us.” Jin rassures Yoongi, leaving a tender kiss on his forehead, hugging him tighter.
“I don’t know if I’m ready to share you yet.”
Jin chuckles, “Don’t worry, I only have eyes for you. At least if we tell them, it'll be easier for us to make out in the supply closet.”
Yoongi laughs and buries his head deeper into the crook of Jin’s neck, as they continue swaying side by side in the middle of their shared kitchen.
Jin untangles himself from their hug, Yoongi frowning at the loss of contact.
“Yongi-chi, before the others arrive, can you try the stew? I just want to make sure it has enough flavour. Let me know if I added too much salt.”
Yoongi nods as Jin brings the ladle close to Yoongi’s mouth. Yoongi sips on the stew, his mouth watering at the burst of flavour. “It’s really good, hyung.. The salt is perfect,” Yoongi grins up at Jin dopily.
Jin smiles and leans down to steal a kiss from Yoongi, pecking him on the lips. “You’re right, it is good!”
After twenty minutes, their guests start to trickle in, starting with Jungkook, who’s more hyperactive than ever. After Jungkook, Namjoon and Hoseok arrive after one another. Shortly after that, the final duo of Jimin and Taehyung enter their apartment, giggling amongst themselves. All of them bring an assortment of different treats and drinks, which they’ll most likely open to share throughout the night.
After a hearty dinner filled with laughs, jokes and stories, Jin asks his friends to gather in the living room, so that they can finally address the elephant in the room.
Yoongi knows Jin likes dramatics, so he’s not surprised when Jin begins his speech and it sounds like he’s giving a eulogy.
“Dear friends. I have gathered you all here today,” he starts.
“Oh my god, Jin hyung are you dying?”Jungkook wails from his place on the sofa.
“What? No, how did you come to that conclusion?”
“To be fair, it does sound like you were about to tell us you had some deadly disease,” says Hoseok.
“You have a deadly disease?” Jungkook exclaims and starts crying even more.
Jin pinches his nose bridge and asks the youngest, “Do you have selective hearing? I’m not dying, I promise.”
Yoongi laughs at the whole situation, his nerves from before calming a little, due to his friends’ antics.
Jimin pipes up after he’s stopped whispering something to Taehyung. “Are you trying to tell us that you and Yoongi hyung have been dating for a while and live together now, before marriage?
Jin looks surprised, but Yoongi should’ve seen that coming, seeing as he basically revealed it to Jimin a couple weeks prior, after their surgery.
“You knew?”
“Yeah, you guys are literally always together, not discreetly at all. Also Jin hyung, you have so many pictures of Yoongi hyung. Whenever I came over, I had to bite my tongue and not say anything,” Jimin sighs exasperatedly.
Jin looks taken aback, however, Yoongi is calmer than he thought he would be. It’s only Jimin. Yoongi’s come to terms with the fact that he knew.
The next person to speak is Hoseok. “Yeah, you don’t just get Yoongi to wake up at 5 am for fishing for just anyone,” he says as he rolls his eyes.
“You told him about fishing?” Jin exclaims.
Yoongi can’t believe Hoseok’s known this long. “It slipped out! I thought I covered it well.”
“Nope, you did quite a shit job at covering it up to be honest. Plus I’m a heart doctor, I heard your heart race from a mile away when I caught you.”
“That literally doesn’t make sense,” Namjoon mutters under his breath.
“Yeah hyungs, you’re not slick at all,” Taehyng says to them.
That comes as a complete shock to them. “What do you mean, how did you know?”
“I saw you guys come out of the supply closet like all the time. The walls speak you know,” Taehyung says as he stares at the two of them.
Yoongi shivers and thinks that’s probably what Namjoon meant by crazy eyes.
“I’m joking! It was clear you guys were sucking each other's faces.” Taehyung says nonchalantly and moves closer to Jimin on the sofa.
Yoongi is appalled. “So you just let me loiter outside my old apartment building, in the cold, even though you knew?”
“Yes. It was so funny seeing you two squirm.” Jin grabs a cushion from the sofa and throws it at him, clearly mad about the whole farce that their own friends had put up. “Stop, stop. That’s what you two get for lying.”
Fair, Yoongi thinks. The only two that seem to not have spoken are Jungkook and Namjoon. Jungkook seems shocked judging by the faraway look in his eyes.
Namjoon finally speaks up and says, “Yeah, I knew but then again the whole ice cream thing made me repress it.”
Yoongi cringes and Jin speaks up, “Oh yeah, sorry about that bro. Love you king.”
Namjoon just nods solemnly and replies “Love you too bro.”
“Wait. You two are dating?” Jungkook finally exclaims.
“Yeah Jungkookie, where were you this whole time?”
“So everytime you made out with each other and I accidentally saw, it’s because you two are dating and not platonically bro-kissing?”
“What even is platonically bro-kissing?” Yoongi asks.
“I don’t know. Tahyungie hyung, Jimin hyung and I kiss all the time. So that's what I thought you were doing,” Jungkook all but wails.
Now Yoongi’s just confused. Jimin and Taehyung speak up from the sofa and say “Bro we’re trying to court you and invite you into our relationship. How are you so dense Jungkookie?”
“Man what the fuck is going on?” Namjoon finally says and Hoseok nods in agreement.
As Jungkook sniffles, Jimin and Taehyung console him whilst making their intentions clear and Namjoon and Hoseok sip on their drinks awkwardly observing them. Seokjin walks up beside Yoongi and wraps his hand around his waist and whispers “Told you we’d be fine.”
Yoongi smiles and leans his head against Jin’s shoulder, letting himself finally feel comfortable in front of his friends.
“Ewww. Get a room!”
