“Blasty, come get your husband!”
Katsuki Bakugo almost dropped his phone as he listened to the screeching of his boyfriend’s best friend. Mina Ashido took up a quarter of the self-proclaimed BakuSquad and closest friend to Eijirou Kirishima, well, besides Katsuki himself. He and Eijirou had been inseparable since their first year at U.A. and started dating towards the end of their second year. They’d stayed together while both chose internships hours away from the other and remained in love and closer than ever now that they’d opened their own Hero Agency and moved in together last year.
Still, even though the BakuSquad frequently joked about their relationship as being an old married couple, it never failed to fluster Katsuki although he’d never admit that to any of the extras. He wanted nothing more than to be able to call Red Riot his husband—he was proud as fuck of the hero that Eiji had become. If he had a ring box hidden away in his office at work, well, that was between him and the locked drawer in his desk.
“Bakugo,” Mina whined over the call, “did you hear me? Come get Kiri. He’s drunk and I can’t heft his heavy ass.”
Katsuki tugged off his gauntlets and set them gently on the couch in his office. As he glanced at the time on his phone and sighed, he made a mental note to drop them off to Hatsume tomorrow to get them adjusted. It was eleven thirty and he’d just finished his shift patrols. He wanted to go home and sleep for the next two days he was off.
“Fine, where are you guys? What happened to Metalhead and Pikachu?”
“Thanks, Bakubabe! We’re at that new place just a few blocks from DynaRiot, The Blast Cellar. Tetsu and Kami wandered off a little while ago, and I haven’t seen them since.”
“Gimme a few, I’m just going to change, and I’ll swing by.”

A heavy-based rock song was blaring from the speakers as Bakugo pushed open the door of the bar in search of his friends. His gaze was quickly drawn to Eijirou’s bright red hair at a booth in the corner. He was smiling dopily at whatever Tetsutetsu was talking about. Kaminari was sitting next to them, his head resting on the table, seemingly passed out, while Mina was nowhere to be found. Metalhead gave Katsuki a relieved smile as he slid into the booth next to his boyfriend.
“Sorry about this, bro. I told him to slow down earlier, but he was really excited about something that he wouldn’t talk about it. You cool if I take Denki home?”
Katsuki nodded. “Go ahead; I’ve got him.”
Tetsu waved and gathered up Kaminari, maneuvering him so that he was hitched onto his back like a koala.
“Goodnight, Kiri! Give me a call tomorrow, okay?”
Kirishima smiled widely and gave him a thumbs up. Bakugo sat quietly observing the redhead for a minute while waiting for him to acknowledge his presence. Already tired and irritated, Bakugo couldn’t keep the gruffness out of his voice as he spoke.
“You ready to go home? I’m exhausted.”
Kirishima looked up at him startled, as if he didn’t even realize Bakugo was literally sitting right next to him. Red eyes widened as he slid his gaze down Bakugo’s body, checking him out.
“Holy shit, you’re hot.”
Bakugo blinked in surprise. While Kirishima was normally very free with compliments, it was the tone of his voice that concerned him. It sounded as if he didn’t even recognize his own boyfriend.
“Well, yeah.” No one could ever call Katsuki Bakugo modest. “Can we leave now?”
Kirishima blinked and shook his head as if attempting to clear cobwebs from his brain. He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly and gave a shy smile.
“I appreciate the offer, man, and you’re really cute, but I’m already taken.”
Bakugo bit his cheek to stop himself from laughing. This dumbass. God, I love him.
“Yeah, by me. Let’s go home, Red.”
Kirishima glared at the other man suspiciously. “I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure I’m dating Katsuki.”
Bakugo gave him a feral grin. “Well, right now you’ve got the Great Explosion Murder God, Dynamight at your service.”
“Ooh, wow,” Kiri murmured in awe.
“Bakubabe!” Mina called from a few feet away as she made her way to the table. “I figured you’d have grabbed him and run already.”
Bakugo gestured to Kirishima and leaned back in his seat. “He doesn’t want to leave with me and insists he’s already involved with someone else.”
Mina giggled. “Kiri, honey?” She waited until she had the redhead’s attention. “Go home with your hubby, please. He’ll take care of you, I promise.”
Kirishima looked at the blond man sitting next to him in surprise. “You’re my husband? Holy shit, I’m a lucky dude. First Katsuki, now Great Explosion Murder guy. “
Katsuki smiled and sighed softly. While the situation was highly amusing, he felt the day’s weariness bone-deep.
“Yeah, I’m your husband. Will you come home with me now?”
Kirishima nodded excitedly and let Katsuki help him to his feet. Their hands were clasped as they walked the few blocks to their apartment in the cool night air.
They made it inside, toeing off their shoes at the entryway before making their way further inside the apartment. Kirishima plopped heavily onto the sofa and sighed sadly.
Confused, Katsuki sat next to him and ran a hand through his boyfriend’s long red hair.
“What’s wrong, Ei?”
Kirishima turned his red eyes toward Katsuki, who was surprised to see them filled with tears.
“I’m sure you’re a great husband, Mr. Murder Guy, but I really love Katsuki. I mean, I really, really love him. He’s my soulmate.”
Katsuki smiled softly. “Come on, Ei, let’s get you to bed. We’ll talk more when you’re sober tomorrow, okay?”
Kirishima nodded and leaned his head against the blond’s shoulder, falling asleep almost immediately. Katsuki shook his head and rearranged Eijirou’s limbs into a more comfortable position on the couch before covering him with a blanket. He leaned down and kissed his partner on the forehead before leaving to sleep in their king-sized, comfy bed. He was too tired to carry Ei to the bedroom, and he felt zero guilt about leaving him out there on the couch.

Around ten the next morning, Katsuki was in the middle of brewing a pot of coffee when he heard Eijirou groaning and cursing in the living room as he awoke. The blond smirked and continued to make preparations for breakfast. He’d already left a bottle of water and some painkillers on the coffee table and figured Eijirou would come find him when he smelled the bacon cooking.
“Ugh, Kats.” The redhead whined as he walked into the kitchen, stopping to wrap his arms around Katsuki’s waist and rest his head on the other man’s shoulder.
“Did you take the aspirin?”
Eijirou kissed the side of Katsuki’s neck. “Yeah, thanks baby.” He sighed and groaned lightly. “What the hell happened last night? How did I end up on the couch? I wanted to snuggle on our day off.”
Katsuki clicked his tongue. “Someone had to get drunk off his ass, and Mina called me to pick you up.”
“Oh man, I’m so sorry. I hadn’t planned on getting drunk like that.”
“Metalhead said you were excited about something but wouldn’t spill. What was that about?”
Katsuki felt Eijirou go stiff behind him before relaxing after a minute.
“It’s a surprise,” he murmured, gently pressing his lips to the back of Katsuki’s neck. “I was excited about your birthday present. You’ll find out next week, I promise.”
Katsuki smiled softly and shook his head. “Okay, Red. I get it.”
Eijirou reached around him to turn off the stovetop burner.
“Oi, what are you-”
Katsuki’s exclamation was cut off as his boyfriend turned him around and easily lifted him so that he was sitting on the kitchen counter with Eijirou standing between his legs. the redhead brushed his nose against Katsuki’s before kissing him gently.
“Thanks for taking care of me, Kats.”
Katsuki smiled fondly. “Of fucking course. I always take care of what’s mine.”
Eijirou’s eyes darkened before he kissed Katsuki passionately. “I love you so fucking much.”
“I love you, too, Ei.”
The pair ended up having breakfast for lunch and staying in bed the rest of the day.

On the morning of Katsuki’s birthday, the pair found themselves hiking up the same trail Kats had taken Eijirou on when he’d first confessed his love years ago. His boyfriend had told him about the surprise trip the night before, and Katsuki decided right then and there that he’d finally propose to this walking, human sunshine in the same spot that he’d first told him, “You’re not as annoying as other people, Shitty Hair.”
Looking back at the memory, Katsuki cringed at how horrible he’d been at expressing his feelings, but even then, Eijirou knew just what to do. He’d laughed brightly and reached out to take Katsuki’s hand before leaning forward and kissing him on the cheek. “I like you, too, Bakugo. So much.”
When the pair reached the summit, Katsuki placed his backpack next to a large rock and walked over to the edge of the peak to let his gaze wander over the magnificent view. He took a deep breath, steeling his nerves while playing with the ring box in his pocket.
“It’s such a beautiful view, isn’t it?”
Katsuki smiled at the reverent tone that his boyfriend had used. “Yeah, it—” His response trailed off as he turned around to find Eijirou on one knee, holding a ring box of his own in his hand, his gaze resting solely on the blond and not the panorama behind him. The redhead rubbed the back of his neck with his free hand as Katsuki stared at him, jaw dropped.
“I love you more than anyone else in this world, Katsuki. Mina told me that you said you were my husband to get me to come home from the bar that night. I want that to always be the truth. Will you marry me?”
Katsuki felt tears of joy sting his eyes as he covered his mouth, unable to stop the ugly laughter that poured from his chest. Eijirou cocked his head to the side in confusion, not understanding what was so funny. The blond dropped to his knees in front of the other man and pulled the ring box from his own pocket.
Eijirou snickered before full-on belly laughing himself. He wiped tears from his eyes when their laughter had subsided. “Man, what a pair we are.”
Katsuki gave his trademark feral grin before launching himself at Eijirou and wrapping his arms around his neck, peppering kisses all over his face. Ei chuckled as his ass hit the ground. He untangled Katsuki’s arms from his shoulders and took Kats’s left hand to slide his ring onto his fourth finger.
Katsuki blinked away tears as he repeated the action with Eijirou’s ring. The pair entwined their hands and admired the way the early afternoon light glinted off the metal bands. The blond sighed and kissed his new fiancé.
“There was never a doubt. It’s always had to be you, Eijirou.”
