Chapter 1: Explosion

Chapter Text

“Ah, almost done with my shopping”
I was finishing my shopping for that day. It was pretty sunny outside and humid. It was a nice day I guess. It was our local convenience store. It was downtown so it’s about 10 minutes from my house. It’s a bit frustrating being down here, due to it being the money wasting february. The school I work for has mandatory valentines day parties so I kinda have to spend money. I was walking towards the candy aisle when I heard a loud ringing sound. Like a bell or something. It was pretty annoying. Some people were running out of the store but it didn’t bother me. Then there was a really loud bang noise. An explosion.
I was blasted towards a shelf full of candy. Most of the place was collapsing. I noticed a hallway near me that went to the manager’s office. I ran towards the office and an explosion knocked the doors off their hinges. I saw the manager looking so terrified with a piece of paper in his hand. He looked like he was crying.
“All my new hires are gone. My money makers, my workers, my people…!” He seems very uncaring for the worker’s feelings and more of his minimum wage workers dying. He is starting to break down like the building we’re in. I randomly screamed
“GIVE ME GUMMY BEARS!!!”. I have no idea why I said that. I feel horrible. Maybe I’m having a panic attack but I don’t know.
My heart was beating out of my chest. I feel an emptiness I’ve never felt before. I somehow feel sadness because I have no one to share my love of candy with. I started to feel more angry than sad. I saw a knife on the manager’s desk. He was frozen in fear and sadness. No, I shouldn’t, that would be vile. I don’t know what’s happening with me. I feel scared for some reason. Maybe the bomb did something to me. I slowly picked up the knife.
The manager looked up at me and realized that I had his knife in my hand.
"Please, Don't! Don't! Are you the bomber? Don…"
"GIVE ME GUMMY BEARS NOW!". The manager opened his desk and rummaged around his desk. He looked panicked. He pulled a pack of Haribo Gummy Bears and threw a pack at me. I caught it and ripped open the package like a wild beast ripping through its prey. I then started devouring the gummy bears like a maniac.
“You’re… You’re insane!” The manager screamed.
“Really? Maybe you don’t know the joys of Haribo!”
The manager starts screaming and breaking everything. He kicked his desk over and screams,
“I am the leader of the candy people. Ah ha ha ha aha!!” He does the whip, the nae nae, even hitting the Quan too. And, when he looked up, he quietly said sorry and started dancing again. I'm thinking there could be something in the bomb that could have made people act like this but I am not s sure. I'm craving my Haribo Gummy Bears so much. It's a desire coming deep within my heart. It's like an animalistic instinct. I start ripping another pack open. I see the bear mascot on the package with the iconic hand presenting the bubble letter logo. The flavor was Starmix. It had all the good flavors in it. I gobbled a bunch of fruit and cola gummies. I felt a sudden rush of energy. I wasn’t a fan of gummies before, but now I am addicted. I heard of addictions like cocaine, tobacco, alcohol, and other things like that but never Haribo Gummy Bears. It was out of nowhere too. But I just want more and more gummy bears now. Haribo makes me feel powerful, satisfied. I do not need other pleasures in my life, Haribo is all I need. Starmix, Happy Cola, Sour, Smurfs, Frogs, Peaches, Berries, Dinosaurs, Twin Snakes, Funtastic, Watermelon, Happy Cherries, Fruit Salad, Blue Raspberry, Mini Rainbow Frogs and Original. All of those flavors enter my mind. On one hand, I feel bliss, on the other, I feel great sadness. Maybe it’s because I threatened a man for my beloved snack, or maybe it’s because I haven’t met the great yellow bear in a bowtie that the Haribo packages depict. He will explain everything to me. The king must return to all of us and rule as the Haribo King. I realize my place of residence has a great expanse of woods and bears. Maybe I can find the great Haribo bear. The Haribo bear is everything to me now, all I need is that mystical bear with the snazzy bowtie while presenting the amazing products that the bear represents. I notice the whole place is on fire. My thoughts were blocking out the reality of the fire that could kill me. I still wonder why this store was blown up. Maybe it was meant to happen. Or maybe it was random terrorism. Maybe I'll never know. Guess I’m not going to be setting up my students' valentines day party. They’re going to be so sad when they can’t watch Super Buddies and eat some Wal-Mart cookies and ice cream.
