Work Text:
Rey grinned as she got out of the shower and dried off her hair. She was going to see Ben. Ben, her very best friend since they were six years old. The man she had been secretly in love with since they turned sweet sixteen together, but the man to whom she could never reveal her feelings, knowing that Ben would never feel the same way.
Now that they were in their twenties, Ben had gone to work for his family company and that meant a lot of travelling round securing deals for Solo industries. Rey missed him terribly especially when this last trip had taken him away from Rey for a whole two weeks! Her job as a free-lance graphic designer kept her busy but she still found his mind wandering constantly throughout the day, trying to pinpoint what Ben might be doing at that exact second…
She pushed the thoughts away. They didn’t matter today. Today she was going to see Ben and she was going to shamelessly hug him, and drape herself all over him until his wonderful smell permeated all her clothing. She smiled at the thought as she left the bathroom wrapped in a towel and moved through to the bedroom.
On impulse, she checked her phone before dressing and noted Ben had responded to her last message.
I’m coming over. Now.
Rey blinked at the message. She checked the time. It was an hour earlier than they had arranged to meet. Rey frowned. It wasn’t like Ben to be unpredictable. Then her eyes settled on the message she had sent to Ben before hopping in the shower.
Oh no. No, no, no!
This couldn’t be happening…
Rey sat down on the edge of the bed and stared at his phone helplessly. Autocorrect was created by the devil. There was no other explanation for her current situation.
They had been discussing Ben’s next trip away. It was to Japan in just three days. Rey had felt her heart sink when she had read the message. Ben had somehow managed to pick up on her melancholy and asked if she was feeling alright.
The message she replied with was meant to read:
I’m okay, just thinking about missing you.
But her phone had helpfully corrected it to:
I’m okay, just thinking about kissing you.
And the worst part of all was that Ben had sent a reply with a simple:
Rey?
And it was obvious now that Ben had been waiting for Rey to correct herself, but Rey has been too distracted by the thought of seeing Ben again to realise her mistake and had replied in kind with:
Ben?
Which now she looked at it sorta looked like an invitation or worse a challenge…
Shit…
And now Rey definitely needed to die. Preferably before Ben got there. She idly wondered if she should message again and try to salvage the situation but from the timestamp of Ben’s last message, he would be reaching Rey’s flat within minutes. Rey paced. Ben wouldn’t shout at her right? He was clearly mad.
I’m coming over. Now.
This was the message of a person who clearly felt betrayed and let down by their best friend. Urgh. But Ben would let her down gently wouldn’t he? Or would he shout and threaten to break all ties for good? Rey dressed quickly and flitted around the flat nervously tidying up. Would this be the last time Rey would get to see Ben in her home? She swallowed hard and jumped at the sudden knock on the door. She took a deep breath, lifted her chin and prepared to face the music.
She opened the door and smiled at her gorgeous best friend’s intense expression.
“Ben, please don’t be mad…I…umph!”
Rey was clever. She knew this. But it took her brain an embarrassingly long time to catch up with the fact that Ben was kissing her. Ben was…KISSING HER! And it was good. Oh God, so good! Where had Ben learnt to kiss this well? Rey pouted against his lips. Ben pulled away.
“Rey?” he asked tentatively.
“You…you kissed me,” Rey said dumbly.
Ben nodded. “Your message…”
“Ah, autocorrect,” Rey said sheepishly.
Ben’s eyes widened and his face turned pink. He stepped away. “Shit,” he mumbled.
“Where did you learn to kiss like that?” Rey asked.
Ben blinked back at her. “What?”
“That was…good. Where did you learn to kiss like that?”
“That was my first kiss…” Ben admitted.
“It was?” Rey said with a relieved smile. “So there’s no one else?”
Ben shook his head. “Only you, Rey.”
Rey bit her lip as her heart burst open.
Ben nodded. “Did you…like it?”
Rey closed the distance between them and put her arms around Ben’s neck. “I liked it very much,” she murmured. Then they were kissing again and it was a glorious mess of teeth and lips and tongue and soft sighs that made Rey ache inside.
“Ben,” Rey moaned as her neck was thoroughly assaulted. “This can’t be…this has to be more….I can’t be casual with you…” she managed to gasp.
Ben looked up at her intensely. “There is only you for me, Rey.”
Rey melted. “You have to stay, you have to stay with me the whole three days,” she ordered desperately between kisses. “I need your scent on my clothes, my bedding, my pillows. You have no idea how hard it is for me when you’re away.”
Ben had somehow manoeuvred them to Rey’s bedroom and was pushing them through the doorway. “I will stay,” he promised.
“The whole three days?” Rey asked as Ben pushed her down onto the bed.
Ben leaned over her and pressed a soft kiss to her lips. He shook his head. “No.”
Rey tried not to fall apart from the disappointment.
Ben smiled a small smile as he brushed Rey’s hair back from her face and cradled her cheeks in the palms of his hands. “I will stay indefinitely.”
“What?” Rey asked.
“I can take a stationary position in the company. Dad has been holding an opening for me for sometime but I always thought it was best for me to not be greedy of my time with you. If I am here, I am always tempted to see you, but if being together is what you want too…”
“It is!” Rey broke free from Ben’s hold and rolled them over so she was straddling the man she hoped was now her boyfriend. “It is! It is what I want!” She cried as she smothered Ben’s face in butterfly kisses.
“Then you can have me.”
“No more business trips?”
“Nope.”
“Full access?”
“Whatever you want.”
Rey grinned and leaned down to kiss him. “I want…all of you.”
Ben smiled up at her. “Then I’m yours.”
