Work Text:

Agustín might have a need to wear glasses, but one didn’t need to have perfect vision to realize that Julieta had practically been circling him like a hawk the entire day.

It started in the early morning. When he had woken up, he had been pleasantly surprised to see her still lying in bed, used to waking up without her by his side since she usually started her duties in the kitchen early. When he had glanced at the clock on the wall, he had immediately gotten his answer. He had woken up about an hour earlier than usual, which was right before Julieta used to start her morning routine.

The moment the woman had realized her husband was awake, right in the middle of Agustín letting out a yawn as he tried to stretch his limbs, he had been pinned back onto the bed with a thump as Julieta had practically thrown herself over him, hugging him tightly as she pressed countless quick, ticklish kisses over his cheeks between laughter.

Agustín had of course not complained about the sudden sweet affection he received from his wife, or her sudden burst of energy. It had actually made him wake up properly, and he had chuckled in return as he had gently ran his hands through the knots and tangles of her curly hair. He loved having Julieta so close to him, and the two of them had spent the next ten minutes in bed, simply cuddling as they traded constant chaste kisses during their early morning conversation. That conversation was of course filled with silly pet names and bad flirting that made both of them chuckle at each other’s attempt to woo the other. Julieta had had her face nuzzled into Agustín’s shoulder the entire time as she hugged him closer, and he had cherished their innocent closeness and the warmth of her body as they cuddled under the covers.

Then it had been time for Julieta to get out of bed to start her chores, and before Agustín had time to say that he would accompany her to the kitchen (which he would have), he had already been pulled out of bed by the arm, almost falling over thanks to Julieta’s sudden strength.

The two had both quickly gotten dressed, and Agustín noticed how Julieta kept sneaking quick glances at him, and then quickly looked away whenever she thought he looked at her. The light blush on her face caused a curiosity to spark in him.

Once they’re both dressed, Julieta grabs him by the arm and holds him close to herself, a little tighter than usual. Agustín simply chuckles and kisses the top of her head, finding her determination adorable as they walk down to the kitchen together. Julieta is basically clinging to him for dear life, and as he looks at her face it’s like he sees a physical pain in her when she has to let go to begin preparing the arepa dough. It’s like she really doesn’t want to let go of him, like being just an inch apart is an inch too much.

Every single moment Julieta seems to have some spare time, she glimpses at him, presses kisses against his lips, or ruffles his hair (when her hands aren’t covered in flour, that is). All while they have an ongoing conversation that never stops. Between every subject change, he compliments her cooking and how hard she’s working as he sees the basket of arepas for the town fill up, while she’s also focusing on making breakfast for the family. He’s impressed by her ability to multitask to this extent.

“Do you want me to set the table, corazón?” he had asked when breakfast was just around the corner, but to his surprise Julieta shook her head.

“Not yet, mi amor. Stay with me for a while as I finish the changua. We can set the table together in five minutes.”

“Well, okay. As you say.”

Agustín watches as Julieta finishes the changua, and afterwards the two of them set the table together just like Julieta had suggested, before carrying out the food. They finish right on schedule, right as people start rolling in for breakfast. As Agustín sits down, Julieta of course takes the chair beside him, sitting just a little closer to him than she usually does. They hold hands under the table during the duration of the entire meal, Julieta basically refusing to let go of his fingers. Agustín was stuck in her grip and had to eat the entire meal with his left hand, but that was a small price to pay for Julieta. After all, he would climb literal mountains for her if she asked him to.

She lets her head rest on his shoulder between bites, which added another hassle as he tried to eat. He wouldn’t complain though, because he absolutely loved having Julieta this close to him. In the end, it was a nice breakfast and he managed to finish his plate even with the added challenge. It was time to split up for the day, everyone having chores to do, and he could see how Julieta barely wanted to let go of him, looking at him with pure sadness in her eyes as she took the basket of arepas to walk down into town. The moment she disappeared out of his field of vision, Agustín realized he already missed her too.

He chopped firewood with Julieta being the only thing on his mind, and then he hummed one of the many songs he used to sing for her when he hung up the laundry outside to make it dry. He was soon finished with his chores and wanted to see his wife, but knew that she wouldn’t be back for at least another hour and a half.

So, he quickly went up to their bedroom to grab his sketchbook and some charcoal pens, and then found himself outside once more as he sat on a stump, his mind set on drawing the Casita.

Agustín had always been fairly good at drawing, he had learned young when he had realized he wanted to work with tailoring. If you were a tailor, you had to at least know how to draw basic things and shape since you were designing clothing. But the last couple of months Agustín had wanted to expand his artistic abilities and had started to draw everything around him whenever he had some extra time for himself, wanting to get better at realism. You weren’t going to get better if you only drew clothes and nothing else, after all. It was a nice relaxing activity that easily passed the time.

He does his best as he makes the outline of the Casita as he draws, and then begins doing a rough shading, deciding to save details for last since he is working with charcoal after all. If he did details first, everything would just become a mess when he wanted to shade. He’s learned from his previous mistakes.

Not even fifteen minutes into the drawing though, he feels a familiar grip around his arm, completely out of nowhere. The sudden touch startled Agustín, the man letting out a noise as he dropped the sketch book and the pen onto the ground as he turned his head. It’s Julieta standing there with the same expression on her face that Agustín couldn’t place. He could tell that she seemed to need closeness too, so he simply pressed a light kiss onto her lip as she sat down on the stump with him, making him almost fall off as there was barely any room.

“Back already?” he asked, knowing that she usually stayed in the town square until lunch. She simply nodded as she let out a lazy whimper, holding him tighter to her as she let her face rest against him. It was like she never wanted to let go, like she had locked herself to him.

But as much as he enjoyed her affection, there was something off about it. Sure, the two of them were always affectionate with each other, but right now it felt like Julieta was scared of letting him go.

“Everything alright, corazón?” he asks, and in return a kiss is placed on his cheek as Julieta takes his hand in her own.

“Yes, yes. I’m just… a little clingy today, I guess,” she replies, and Agustín can see the bashful redness spread across her face. He kisses her forehead in return.

“Is there a reason for that? Not that I don’t enjoy your company, I just want to know if there’s a reason.”

He hears how she lets out a sigh before she nuzzles closer to him.

“I just had a bad dream, that’s all. You were just gone and I spent the entire dream trying to find you but never did. It made me feel off and weirded out I guess, and the feeling didn’t disappear when I woke up. I guess I just wanted to make sure you were actually still here, so I never wanted to let out of my sight,” she says before she sighs once more. “It got so bad that I left the town square early, I lied and said there was a family emergency and told them they could distribute the arepas among themselves. I just needed to see you so badly, it felt wrong to not have you by me so I ran back to you.”

As he hears her words, he tenses up and makes sure they keep eye contact. He looks straight into her dark brown eyes, making sure she realized he was there, that he wouldn’t be going anywhere.

“Do you want to talk about it?”

She shook her head.

“Not really? There’s not much more to say, just that I had a bad dream and now I want to be close to you for a bit.”

He nods and kisses her forehead again. In return, she hugs him so tightly that Agustín swears his lungs are about to be crushed. It makes him laugh.

“Careful, careful. You’re going to suffocate me, mi amor.”

Her grip immediately loosens, and her face deepens even more as she bashfully looks away. Julieta bites her lower lip.

“Sorry.”

“It’s fine, love,” he reassures her with a chuckle as he gently pats her back. “Do you just want to cuddle for a bit? To see that I’m here? I mean, you’ve already left the town square early and there’s more than an hour until you have to start with lunch.”

“Yes please, I’d really like to cuddle. And can you keep me company when I make lunch too? I don’t think an hour of cuddling will be enough for me to stop being clingy.”

“Of course. I won’t leave your side for the rest of the day. Is that okay?”

She answers with a soft kiss, followed by the two of them walking back to the Casita. Soon they could be found cuddling together on the couch, with Julieta half asleep next to Agustín.
