Ladybug knocks on his window. Shaking, Adrien lets her in.
“I’m sorry,” she whispers.
Adrien blinks back tears. He still hears police sirens ringing in his ears.
Ladybug presses something into his hand. Caramel candies — the kind so sweet it makes your teeth hurt.
“It’s stupid,” she says helplessly, “but sweets help me. I thought…”
Her body says what’s unsaid. The slump of her shoulders: I know this isn’t enough. The tremble of her lips: I don’t know how to fix this.
“Thank you,” he says wetly.
Tentatively, Ladybug reaches for him. He lets himself be pulled into her embrace.
