based on a convo i had about jack murdock kissin on his gym buds and young matt thinking that sometimes dude friends just smooch on the lips

Work Text:

Matt had had many weird talks with his dad. Somehow the ‘realizing all your friends are queer made me realize I was queer’ talk takes the cake.
Now, it wasn't like Matt never visited his dad, they had dinner every other weekend, but showing up on a random tuesday with a bag of chinese takeout wasn't exactly common. So without any fuss Jack Murdock let his son inside and helped him set up the table in silence. They get through half the meal before Jack realizes Matt’s not about to say anything. He sighed.
“So, kid, is this perhaps, about me and… my friends?”
“You said kissing was just a friend thing! That dudes kissed dudes as friends all the time! You never told me otherwise!”
Jack paused. That's what this is about?
“That’s what's bothering you, Matt? Kissing frien-” he cut himself off, realizing where this was going. “Matt… Does this have something to do with Foggy?”
Matt groans and hides his face in his hands. “Yes. Obviously,” he grumbled.
And Jack couldn’t help the laugh that escaped him.
“Dad! This isn't funny! He thought we'd been dating! This whole time I've been figuring out what I have to do to get him to love me! Do you realize how embarrassing this is for me?”
And god help him, Jack just started laughing harder. And he laughed until he doubled over, nearly in tears. When he finally caught his breath and sat up, Matt was glaring right at him.
“Kid- he clearly likes you enough to think you were dating. And you guys worked it out,”
Matt shrugged.
“Matt. Please don't tell me you just ran as soon as you got embarrassed.”
Matt didn't answer. Jack sighed.
“Matt.”
“You said not to tell you! Here I am, not telling you!”
Jack sighed and took a moment to decide how to respond. But before he had to, Matt's phone started ringing from its place on the table. Normally, his phone would just announce who was calling, but ‘Honey, Honey’ by ABBA could really only be one person.
Matt realized what Jack was going to do a second too late. He slouched back into his chair in annoyed acceptance as his dad answered his phone for him.
“Foggy, hi! It's Jack. Normally I’d ask what he did but he actually told me this time,”
Matt could hear Foggy’s laughter from the other end before he tuned it out. But it wasn't long before his dad was handing his phone to him. He didn't even get a chance to say hi before Foggy was talking.
“Matt you idiot, get back here. If you’d avoid jumping out of windows for long enough you’d’ve heard me tell you that this isn’t a big deal- and you don't have to worry about ‘convincing’ me to date you,”
“Oh.”
“Yeah, oh. Get back over here and kiss me. And not in the ‘just friends’ way either,”
Matt sighed and smiled hesitantly, “I’ll never hear the end of this will I?”
Over the phone Foggy laughed. “Oh absolutely not!”
